    I add Berrymans B12 to almost everything I work on and it produces amazing results. A word of caution though; if mixed too heavily or left sitting for too long, it will start to eat the rubber components. I bought an old Stihl 048 and the tank was solid varnish. Put in straight Berrymans and let sit for 48 hours. When I dumped it, that tank looks brand new.

    • @AodhMacRaynall-dr1sf
      @AodhMacRaynall-dr1sf ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the heads up on letting it sit. I started using Berryman's on cheap trimmers that were really in need of carb cleaning and general maintenance. I started letting them just sit and idle with a full tank. In 15 minutes you could hear a difference in how they were running. Probably would have been even better if I had actually throttled them up. That sold me on Berryman's. I'll be careful not to let them sit up after reading this.

    I am still riding a 1984 2 stroke motorcycle (MZ) that I bought brand new in 1984. In the first twenty years I had to burn out the clogged muffler a few times. Since the JASO FC and FD oils came out I have not had that problem. 4 years ago, For the first time, I had to pull the engine apart to fix the gearbox. I was amazed to find very little carbon or gum on the piston or rings. Those new oils are terrific.

      As a mechanic I would tend to agree with the assumption that it's probably going to continue to become more and more clean,
      I use Trufuel here because I can get it 4 cycle/2 cycle gallons much cheaper, $20 a gallon,
      But in my opinion that pales in comparison to the fact that it eliminates having to constantly rebuild/clean out the carburetor,

      Jupiter Cyclops, Oh that is Ironic because I recently owned BOTH of these, My trans went out in one, My daughter left the other car parked on the street after I told her it would be hit if she kept leaving it on the street, some kid came along and totaled it,
      You are up against a problem here, You need to "hang" the engine and trans on a fender mounted suspension rig prior to dropping
      The subframe below them in order to remove that trans, This includes the rack and pinion and front struts (front end alignment required when done as well, normally this isn't a big deal, But this V6 and trans together are a BEAST in size and weight, so you will need a decent engine support tool capable for this job and you really need a lift and a decent trans jack, you cant just slide this beast of a trans out like a 4 cylinder trans job, You would have to have a shop do this work, They should swap out fine I dont see a problem there, But the cost of all of this will still probably not be worth it, and after all that you still have to hope that used trans wont fail on its own a year later, That's a hard position, my rebuilt trans worked well and did not fail, The car ended up in a junk yard with that clean trans because the entire trunk of my Pontiac rusted out and I felt it was unsafe for the wife and kids if it was to ever get rear ended there was nothing there, You have two nice cars, neither are easy to fix at home cheaply.

      It is the most underrated subject for small engines known to man,
      Ethanol hasn't been around forever, these issues kind of crept up behind us as we got used to them,
      Run cheap gas all year to do the work, NEVER EVER store a small engine with pump gas.

    I've got to wonder if the trimmer's owner was also mixing his own fuel and putting too much mix oil in it... People think more oil is better but if it doesn't burn completely you end up with a build-up in the engine. If done long term a big carbon build up can form that can break off and score the piston and cylinder. Me, I run non-ethanol 93 with Stihl synthetic mix oil in all my Stihl tools. The pistons and cylinders, as well as the spark arrester screens, are clean. Those tools include Stihl MS261, MS461, HT131, FS131 and HS56.

    I had assumed you were going to show it did a BAD thing! I've bought a can of premix without even noticing what the ratio is! I hope it's correct about 1:40. I normally mix 25ml oil to 1 L petrol. No problems but thought I'd try the dear -- well, very dear stuff. 23€ maybe as opposed to 5L petrol for under 10€ and a couple spoonfuls oil. Just actually use it some time! I was particularly interested in you checking the rpms. Never seen it before on a 2-stroke, and of all the vids on tuning, none show getting the appropriate rpm. I'm using a bramble blade (well, two: two bendy-down bits (??) and three bendy-down bits). And I'm not sure they're turning fast enough to massacre my jungle(s). So will use your figures as a guide. Keep up the good work. Appreciated.

    Interesting. But I wonder what in the pre-mix caused the cleansing. Is it the 93 octane or perhaps an additive to the fuel? If it is an additive I wonder if other pre-mix brands, which cost less than Stihl Motomix, would have the same effect. For example Home Depot has their private label PowerCare brand of 93 octane ethanol free gas for $4/qt and I wonder if would have done the same cleansing as the twice as expensive Motomix.

    Funny when we had the good unleaded gas in the 1960. a set of spark plugs fouled out in 10,000 miles. A engine was burning oil at 70,000. Miles. Why with this sorry corn gas are engines lasting 250,000 miles or more. Now I am using 1960,s homelite XL12 chainsaws. and I use the murphy ethanol gas from wal mart. and use that wal mart super tech 2 cycle oil. And last year I clear cut 4 acres of scrub timber. And my two XL12 saws are still going strong. I simply dont let my gas set around and become stale.

When a load is put on if only partially engaged it would have more of a potential to slip which will wear the parts faster. Am I wrong @THEMOWERMEDIC1 ?

    bub its not the motomix that cleaned it up, it was running full throttle so it could burn off whereas your customer just putted at half throttle

  • @Madmoody21
    @Madmoody21 ปีที่แล้ว

    Really? I am willing to bet you take plain old good fuel mix at home and run a small engine at full throttle for a bit like that you will get cleaning like that. Most of the build up is probably from partial throttle running. These things do not have any sophistication in its response curve at all so when properly tuned they run well in a very limited R.P.M. range usually full throttle is closest to adiabatic conditions.
