The owner is a nutter, and you will either love him or be frightened of him. He’s young and speaks very good English, which is rare in Vientiane. I also recommend CCC and Samlo for late night drinks and more party type crowds, which didn’t seem that common there. Vientiane is definitely not bangkok. It’s so much more buttoned down and low key. I agree with your mate: “what girls?” Oh, “No Name Bar” is really cool too.

I did my DTV in Laos 2 weeks ago. Left Bangkok Sunday evening, back in Bangkok on Tuesday at midnight. Didn't have to attend immigration at all. It was done for me. I had the dodgy hotel also, I just checked in to a better one, BB hotel, $50 a night. I just stayed in the hotel and worked, they had a great cafe.
Been to that night market area......... good restaurants along the river. Night market was good. I like the Laos people...... but, I found Vietiane to boring :) I'm used to Bangkok ! I did a VISA RUN to Vietiane last April, and stayed in that area. Honestly, I'm going back to Vietnam for my Visa run this year. I will try Da Nang / and Hoi An areas this trip.
I just spent 3 months in Vientiane. It was nice and mad cheap. I got a little bored after 3 months, and now I’m in Kuala Lumpur wishing I was back in Laos. KL is so much more expensive. Going out to a bar here costs more than it does in my neighborhood in Brooklyn! Local food here is still pretty cheap though.

The same is happening, if you let your car clean by a service, where they will damage the plastic screencover of your speedometer, and much more, by using this chemical mixtures.
I think "brothel" is the word you are looking for. Have you done your visa runs to Cambodia before? I know they were cracking down at that border on expats doing multiple visa runs on a tourist visa.

Exchange rate for Lao kip is really great now for foreigners. Lao beer and Lao people are the best but I found Vientiane to be hot and boring. In Bangkok they tell you to be properly attired when going to Immigration (no shorts etc) but does not seem to matter up there.
@@keisone Sorry, I should have clarified! It used to be there but has now moved. It's a really big, busy venue full of young Laos people out partying. About 6km away from the night market now.
Azalea parkview hotel in Vientiane is my goto, far enough from the boardwalk and party but still walkable, clean and nice 👍 Im curious what hotel it was, I know by walking around the embassy there was a few buildings that looked like madam houses for chinese tourists but it looked fancier feom the outside

I'm curious, is it just Vientiane that takes the baht, or other places in Laos, too? I vaguely remember Paddy's tour of Laos, and I'm fairly certain he had to change his baht into kip. I'm sure he also had issues doing it, as it's a currency locked country, or something, so you can only get kip in Laos, is that still the case?
in Laos you can use Thai baht and dollar!!! but if you pay baht and dollar to hotels, restaurant, market the rate will be as they want and it is not profitable for you... because the rate will be as they want, and not as in the bank, that is why you need to exchange it for local money...

The main challenge in Laos is not to end up among the backpackers or near their trails. Where you ended up is still ok.
