A tip for the bulb plant waterer: secure a small square of nylon from pantyhose with a rubberband on the tip of the bulb. This prevents the tip from getting clogged with soil when you push it into the planter.

I have 5 dollar tree stores within 20 mile radius of my house and I go to each one at least 3 times a week... and I have never seen empty or bare shelves at all.... they are always well stocked and very orderly and clean stores... however I have heard of people in lower income areas speaking about unorganized stores that are mostly bare and I find that very odd.... even in the lower income areas of Knoxville the stores are always super full... so its weird to me... I can only assume it has something to do with the staff /employees.....

I use the laundry basket with my container gardening. I have placed the baskets over delicate plants 🪴 and put a refilled water bottle on top to keep out rabbits 🐇 or other varmints from eating your plants or new seedlings. Also, if I have a basket that has a broken bottom, I cut off the rest on that bottom and then place it over my tomato plants that can help with the fruit weight. Make sure to ease a branch thru the holes and zip tie it to the plastic, or tie it with jute string.

I use the little metal trashcans like this. Placed over seedlings, slightly buried in the soil has kept the rodents out. Also, I will take two of those metal cans and wire them together around a developing watermelon to keep rats from eating them (we have a rat problem in our city and everyone has a hard time growing watermelons to maturity here because of them but every one they I protected with the metal trash can "cage" survived and ripened.

It seems like if they're mixed in, they could distribute the water throughout the plant and root system, instead of sitting at the bottom. But I don't know that much about plants, so I'm not sure which is best.

I think the hanging light would be super pretty with the "sea glass" spray paint instead! Ooooh...

The laundry basket is the one I told my self wow never thought of that.
I'm not sure what people will think when they drive by. But hey, I'm going to try this. It can hurt anything. 😃

Thanks for the great hacks! If you add some motor oil to your little bucket of sand, it will also lubricate your tools as you clean them.

I've also read you can use any kind of oil such as three in one multi-purpose oil or even olive oil and canola oil. They all protect the surface of the metal yard tools

Great ideas. I have ried using indoor plastic baskets outside- the sun & arid weather made it brittle & it fell apart in one season.

Maybe try spraying it with outdoor spray paint. It is the UV rays that destroy the plastic. I'm going to try it.
Also, slip the "female" end of the hose through the bottom row of holes, then attach to the spigot. That should keep the basket from blowing away.

Hi, yes I live in Iowa and our mosquitoes are really a pain, we can't even go sit outside most of the time . We have even went out in the early morning hours and no such luck . It's between 7 and 8 and we can sit maybe 1 or 2 hours and then we have to come back inside, then we can't do anything outside for rest of day and night.
