    If you have a scan tool that can do freeze framing. Ive found personally. That p0442 triggers on key on instantly if your tank pressure sensor is bad. You can scroll thru the data pids and goto evap-vp will show 0.0 (meaning its not working, in the module data for ecm i found that stats high was on a evap pressure parameter (shows the allowed voltages min/max and im .263 volts over the max telling me shorted out) hope this helps!

    I’ve had aftermarket fuel neck leak where the plastic meets the metal where you fuel up at, they have a crappy way to crimp the metal, so i bought another from advance, it looked just like the one i got on ebay, this time i sealed around it with black RTV sealant, it worked!

    Some years ago I had to siphon old gas out of my truck, add new and a fuel additive to try and fix the ethanol build up in the bottom of the tank. Since then I’ve had the P0442 issue. I have to get gas ⛽️ at a pump that has more slender gas pump nozzles and turn it way up to the side, half way out to let the vapors out in order to fill up. Same with the Subaru as it was given to me and had been sitting for a few years.
    Screwed up some flap in the filler neck I think. 🤔

    I remember gas leaking from my gas filter i moved & it stopped leaking can this code be related to this code?

    When performing the smoke test, did you use a scan tool or jumper out the vent valve to close it? If so, what wire did u jumper off from?

    • @HVAC_Mechanic
      @HVAC_Mechanic  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Its best to use a scan tool otherwise a wiring diagram for the vehicle is needed.

    I had my fuel pump replaced about a year ago and the guy told me the fuel lines are brittle. Could this cause this code#?
    We have changed the purge valve, gas cap, some frayed tubing, checked all wiring connectors. We are stumped.

    • @HVAC_Mechanic
      @HVAC_Mechanic  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Bad fuel lines could cause a fuel leak, but likely not a P0442 code. Bad Evap hoses can cause a leak and a P0442 code. It may be best to get an Evap smoke test done to see if there is a leak.

    I got the code changed the evap canister and fuel caps, engine light went away, been driving it for a couple days now, engine light never came back on but it stills shows the code P0442 as permanent. Does it take a while for that permanent code to go away or do I still have a evap leak ?

    • @HVAC_Mechanic
      @HVAC_Mechanic  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The vehicle needs to go through a drive cycle, which needs to be looked up since it is different for each car or truck. Usually, just driving around will cause it to clear eventually.

    • @stephenberry2475
      @stephenberry2475 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If it doesn't clear from just driving, you can get a bluetooth module for the OB2 port and connect your phone to clear the old codes manually. Just be sure the issue is fixed before doing so.

    I changed my purge valve. It idles much better now but I still got engine light blinking. Can’t find any other issues.
    Would bad fuel injector cause the blinking? Still no code outside of p0442. I had p0496 when I replaced purge valve.
    Not getting a code for fuel injector. Replaced all plugs

      Already spent 100 almost for all these parts last thing I wanna do is pay someone else to look at it now. The engine light blinking is what’s causing me to worry.

    • @HVAC_Mechanic
      @HVAC_Mechanic  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you only have an Evap code, it should clear with a scan tool. 2010 and newer vehicles need a drive cycle to fully clear, but the light should go off. If the codes come back, there may be another issue, such as a leak.

      @MrDon967.
      Most often when an engine light is blinking,you have an issue with a plug or plug wire,or possibly the cap. Blinking light in a Chevy is a misfire.

    Can bad gas also cause a p0442 code?

    • @HVAC_Mechanic
      @HVAC_Mechanic  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Bad gas would cause issues with the engine running, but I don't see how it would affect the EVAP system.

    I just got a suggestion just buy a Ford and you won’t have check engine lights on every single day. I got two Fords in a driveway and two Chevys in the driveway Chevy always got some kind of check engine light on always.

      In fleet, fords are the ones that come back the most for Evap codes.

      That Chevy will still outlast that ford, with a Christmas tree gauge cluster
