I decided against this icon of Nomos and go with the Ahoi for more sportiness and the Orion for even more dressiness instead. Nomos is and will ever be the brand I‘m paying my full respect for what they’ve done for the German watch industry during the last 30 years! 👍👏👌

more and more REAL watch enthusiasts pay attention for nomos. that´s great! nomos stands for pure and simple design and class + great craftsmanship. the simple design is at the same time nomos´problem. the present world is full of informations, pictures, voices, noise, loudness. this made the present mankind lose the sense for simplicity. the poeple just don´t understand this simplicity :D it sounds paradox, but it isn´t! Nomos is just mindblowing and pure class of watchmaking!

Worn on the wrist it'll self wind no problem. Mine was discounted in a sale and if I recall correctly was less than the Tangente but that may pop up on my list to look at in the future. Simple, accurate and readable watches without being a dinner plate on the wrist, thank you Nomos.

I own a Tangente, and I absolutely love it, particularly the simplicity of the Bauhaus design. Hand-wound movements are my favourite anyway, so the Tangente falls right into my wheelhouse. Great value for sure! Mine is an older model (2011) but the case is 37.5mm wide, so more to my liking than your 30mm model. The only negative things I would say are that it doesn't feature a quickset date (you have to repeatedly move the hands back and forth between 11:45 and 12:00 midnight to change the date) and that because of the long lugs, it doesn't fit every wrist. Fortunately for me, I have a 7.4" wrist, so it fits great in my case.
By the way, I'm not German but I believe Stowa is pronounced "Shtova". At least that's how I've heard others pronounce it. Cheers!

In my small modest collection, my Tangente is the jewel. Everything you said about the craftsmanship is true and then some. It’s virtually impossible to find another watch hand-made, with an in-house movement (including the escapement), at anywhere close to this price. By the way, all Tangentes are 35 mm, not 30. To those who say it is over priced, they simply don’t understand or fully appreciate the watchmaking process and the subtleties thereof. This is also considered by many to be one of those watches that shows the owner knows his watches better than most.

OK so the movement is not going to win any beauty awards, you can tell it’s only adjusted to a few positions and there are a couple of very minor flaws - but for the grand sum of £105 this surely takes the prize of best value watch ever. @@timmihendrix1 - One thing I’ve learned about watches is that it’s a very personal choice. We all have different tastes but that’s fine - it would be boring if we were all the same. The main reason I got a PD (specifically the 1690), is that you get such a high spec for the price. For me personally owning an example of the timepiece this tries to resemble is great as I can wear the PD on a daily basis which is 90% identical to my Rolex. But that’s missing the point - the main thing is ‘bang for buck’ and I don’t think there’s better out there - but not any PD - specifically the 1690! What you get for such a small price is astounding especially when you consider the accuracy …

I have felt exactly the same way for a while .
I mean everything ( or at least a lot of what they do , ) in terms of design and aesthetics , they do so well , I mean especially if you compare it to Laco , Stowa , Steinhart .
Although those brands have their history and past laurels, particularly the former 2 ones , that they can rely on , ( and that’s all they do , churning the same old formula with little or no change , over and over again with no cohesive design philosophy and a very stoic and sterile products and a similar communication strategy , ) Nomos has the essence or the spirit right , which the talking hands often is good at finding in these otherwise lifeless objects , ie , another-worlds charm , something that is hard to pin point , unless you are as gifted as the ‘ talking hands .’
Don’t know what else to say but Nomos is just right for me .

I’m really thinking about buying this for myself to celebrate 12 months sober this November. I’m proud of my sports watch collection, but it’s missing a leather dress watch.

I have the STOWA Back to Bauhaus Limited Edition and I am suprised to see the similarities. But the STOWA costs only 1200€ and is an automatic watch. Would love if you would show that watch too.

A bit unfair that Glashütte is not as recognised as Swiss Made is for the average person that wants to buy a watch to impress.

You should have a look at Sinn watches. I believe it’s a very underrated German watch brand and in my opinion they produce superior tool watches.

I love this watch and one day soon, I’ll have one, but your macro lens work is showing up some defects. The rim of the seconds wheels shows signs of excess ink and one of the wheels in that beautiful movement is carrying a little extra bit of metal.

I've always been split. Would I rather have a Nomos or a Junghans? Within the last few days, your videos answered my question. Junghans, like the Nomos, makes beautiful watches but Junghans attention to fit and finish is lacking. Go the minimalist route and every detail matters. Junghans is sloppy. This quality of the Nomos is superlative and would be my choice between these two watchmakers. Thank you.

You're absolutely spot on. I've had both, a Tangente 38mm and a Junghans Max Bill; i adore them both but the Nomos feels like a Patek compared to the Max Bill when in hand or on the wrist! I was shocked at the difference, but as you said, the Junghans felt cheap and fragile compared to the Tangente. I've had the Tangente 2 years now, the Max Bill has long gone:)

This is how minimalism works. You start with a $1000 watch and you start removing stuff you even remove the lugs and replace them with spare parts. At the end you have a plain watch but you're charging $2000

The brand has lovely watches. I prefer the Club 731, but any model has its beauty.
In terms of bang for the buck I think a Khaki auto or mechanical are more valuable although the movement is an ETA.

    • @timmihendrix1
      @timmihendrix1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The video states 'can you find a watch with similar specifications for the same bang for buck'.. Hammys are great, but as you said, no in house movements- in house movements make a huge difference. i have a Khaki, great bang for buck, but not on the same level horologically as an in house Nomos.

Interesting sidenote: Stowa brought back their original design with their Antea in the early 2000s. Nomos sued them trying to stop their distribution. Afaik it ends with a compromise: Stowa slightly changed the dial Design and now both watches are available

    • @gergelytuskai8103

I have the Stowa Antea41. I like the design better. It has full numbering and the brand name is very small, much more discrete - truer to Bauhause, although it is nitpicking. And the printing of the numbers is much thicker, gives a 3d feel. It is thicker though at 11mm and this design appears much larger at 41 mm...I have a large wrist though so I can pull it off.
