If you shake the tree from the front with the net tool out and a wasp hive does fall off for it, you're automatically turned towards it for the shock animation. This actually makes it easier for you to quickly use your net over the wasps and catch them before they can sting you. Just have the debris around the tree cleared first so it can land closer to you. You can do this 5 times a day and then you're clear from danger of them for that day.
You can also escape them if you’re wearing a wetsuit and empty handed. Just run into the ocean. Fun fact: the tarantula will also chase you. They give up though….eventually….I think. I accidentally came across one (no net in hand of course) and just coming running. It seemed like eventually it stopped, or ran into a tree, or got someone else. No clue why or where it stopped.
Both the Tarantula and Scorpion will randomly spawn during the nighttime. They chase after you relentlessly until you escape into a building or into the water at least. Best to keep out your net tool on the ready and don't run too fast lest to get too close too quickly to one by mistake.
