Granada also gave us the best Sherlock Holmes, Jeremy Brett. As well as the monolith of daytime, This Morning, and one of the best, toughest and quirkiest game shows of all time, The Krypton Factor, which itself had one of the all time best theme tunes. The static slides for me made Granada the closest thing ITV had to the BBC in terms of presentation, and certainly the company grew to have about as much gravitas as them. The throwback ident with the CG recreation of the From The North logo was also used by Channel 4 when they had a short lived Granada archive strand. The Explosion version of the Blocks would be followed by the Granada tiles and arrow forming up. The white background with blue strap logo is the one that conjures up the memories for me with thoughts of Coronation Street, ITV Schools on Channel 4 and This Morning when off sick, and You've Been Framed with Jeremy Beadle on Sunday night before bedtime. The ITV Network is some nostalgia trip, though the interesting thing is how some of us didn't see these in motion before the Internet age because we didn't live in the specific region, we just saw the logo in static form at the end of shows.
i really hope you do Utv. UTV stands for ulster television (personally i just call it ulster telly) and its pretty unique! 1st off it kept its own branding up until a few years ago! While all the other itv owned or kinda owned programs had already got their itv idents utv kept their idents until the 2010s! 2. Its also a very old itv programming station as it started in the 50s 3. I'm from NI so i did sometimes see utv on screen and i'd love if you covered it!
Another really enjoyable video; It's interesting how relatively uniform Granada's idents remained over the years. Even after the removal of colours and simplification in the 1990s (following the trend; gotta admit I found it a rather bland era style-wise) the logo and, for a time, the font, remained largely unchanged and recognisable. Have to admit it wasn't for some years in my youth that I 'got' that the arrow in top of the G logo was because it was pointing north!! :D
Before the channel Endboard, you should have put in the last ever ITV1 Granada arrow ident from 28th October 2002. "And so we've come to the end, but before we go, the final last words from our broadcaster" (ITV1 Granada arrow heart ident plays) Bob Predey: Well that's just about it from me. As you may have already heard, our friends and colleges over on ITV1 in London take over the commercial breaks and continuity from 9.25am after the GMTV block this morning. So from on behalf of our Northern team and all the past ITV1 Granada announcers since 1956 over the past 46 years, this is Bob Predey bidding you a fond farewell.
My favourite ident from Granada Television would be the 1986 ident, along with its 30th anniversary one, because I like the CGI animation in the normal version, and the Granada's G-Arrow symbol shaped cake is ABSOLUTELY brilliantly designed in the 30th anniversary version.
And yes, you may argue the CGI of the 1986 ident is really simple animation, but still is a very good ident. Really simple but iconic logo design though.
So this is basically the third season of this Ident Review spinoff Season 1: BBC2 IDs 1991-2001 Season 2 BBC2 Christmas IDs 1991-2000 Season 3 ITV Regional Networks IDs 1955-2002
The Granada TV channel shut down in 2002 but for some weird reason it stayed as a separate company up until 2013 The final Granada logo made in 2004 was in some sort of moons hope with a huge letter G and the horizontal line at the end of the G curve being replaced with the letters spelling out the brand name. That version could be seen on Pocoyo and later episodes of Jungle Run and Saturday Night Takeaway those are the only examples of it I remember watching
Pointless fact, but did you know Granada also ran motorway service stations across the UK until 2001 when a company they merged with (Compass Hospitality) diverged a year after merging, taking the service stations with them and leaving Granada to the broadcasting side.
Good video Granada TV was great they produced Corrie Better than ITV because Coronation Street is just meh not great in my opinion now back then tho Corrie was good
I find the music in each of these idents so comforting 🥰
It's a beautiful piece isn't it! I believe it's called 'il giorni' 🥰
@@AdamMartyn Not that one my love, I meant in each ident - the sort of jingle if you will. I knew the other 😁
Granada Is Up There With Thames & LWT As The Best ITV Franchise Ever!
Being from Merseyside this just took me right back to my childhood in the 80s into the 90s. Makes me really nostalgic seeing some of these again 😊
Now we're really getting into this marathon. We'll done adam, another great review
Thanks pal!

Love this channel I so miss the regional indents before it became so standardised
From the North? People north of Middlesbrough be like: “Where do they broadcast from? The Outer Hebrides? What? Manchester? That’s the south!”.
i really hope you do Utv.

One thing that annoyed me about being in Granada region, we never had music that went along with the logo :(

That purple Granada logo is the one I grew up with
From the North: this is Granada!
It certainly is!

The big arrowed! G
Growing up in the 80s and and 90s I was a itv Gtanada kid as it had of my favourite TV shows like Knight rider and A team also power rangers.
Of course PR never had Granada branding, as it always aired on either GMTV or CITV.
Meanwhile in Philippines and other spanish speaking countries: *well it's grenade for me*
What ideas do you have in mind for the 100th episode of the main TIR series?
Good video Granada TV was great they produced Corrie Better than ITV because Coronation Street is just meh not great in my opinion now back then tho Corrie was good
Did you hear that Doctor Who star Tanya Fear has gone missing? Hope she gets found soon.
she has been found safe and sound
Not quite as good as the Central idents in terms of animation but the logo itself is a classic, it just screams Coronation Street for me!😁😁
Have you heard about Christopher Eccleston returning for the ninth doctor adventures series 2
What was the name of the company that nearly took the North West franchise in 1992? I know but does Adam know?
Great I dents
