I heard a rumour somewhere once that Scottish TV was going to be named 'Scottish Highlands and Islands Television' but the name was abandoned when it was realised what the abbreviation spelt!😁😁
I mean, I’m glad Scottish Television is named like this. I mean, it would be super weird just seeing S.H.!.T on your screen. And yes, I also agree, that Tyne Tees is enough. Why would a tv station be named after 3 RIVERS. Tyne, tees, and wear.

That thistle. Due to its geometric shapes, it never occurred to me that it was a thistle until the Internet age. It looks so much like a figure with outstretched arms. The chrome logo with the purple backdrop is a childhood memory from countless episodes of CITV shows including Finders Keepers, How 2, What's Up Doc, Fun House, and many more. It also was a common sight on Sundays, appearing on Highway with Harry Secombe, and Take the High Road, which by the time I was growing up, had the electric guitar version of its theme tune, one of the best theme tunes of the 90s. STV has been fascinating to me for years, being just over the water in Scotland, it's TV, but not as we know it. If I had ever gone there, it would feel alien to me, I'm sure. The basic channel is so similar, but it's different too.
It’s quite strange when they have a problem and switch to an ITV feed, it’s like being in England! And of course why would they announce on even just some of the English regions “hey just so you know, part of Scotland is watching now too”; meaning you have to wait until STV actually comes back (sometimes hours later) to hear a vague apology about “sorry for the brief interruption before an alt feed was switched in” which doesn’t really shed any extra light! Though it should be said I’ve only witnessed this twice. But I don’t watch hardly any linear TV so I doubt I’m lucky enough to have caught the only two times!
I could easily see the thistle indents being used as the boot screen on a Phillips CDI competitor or some other early CD based console. It's dated but in doing so has a nostalgic aethstetic despite not being born at the time.

The Thistle from 1989 - 2000 is the one I grew up with.
Fun fact - the Thistle logo is the inspiration for Adam Martyn's hairstyle.
STV which I believe are the last remaining franchise to be fully independent and not be under the same branding as the rest of ITV
Yeah, UTV's branding fell victim to covid restrictions last year, and ITV bought out Channel a few years before that.
