I came here to CELEBRATE being debt free. I paid off a 7 yr. car loan in 4 yrs, and have since put that monthly car payment towards my emergency fund, which i continue to do today. I am so glad I did that because I am retired, and my budget has had some major adjustments. I continue on the journey.Even small amounts matter, and I stopped watching certain channels that state how much money retirees should have. You can only do the best you can with what you have, and the circumstances that life has given you. Keep going. The only way you lose is if you quit. I am a new subscriber. Cacoon Time!
Congratulations on your big win that's awesome!!!! Do your retirement your way be debt free be frugal and cocooning is wonderful! Thats what I am doing : )
Find your tribe! So essential. On Thursday, my best friend and I had a sleepover, even though we're both 74. We went to an exhibit that we'd been looking forward to. We're members at $35 a year, so each monthly visit is less than $5! The exhibit was beautiful and we discussed the paintings and thoroughly loved our visit. My guy met us after at a local Mexican restaurant which has an $8 senior special, all day, everyday. With an $8 margarita and the tip, it came out to about $25 each. Delicious food, divine margaritas, lots of catching up. Then back to my apartment which is my sanctuary. Clean, clutter free, with colorful mostly thrifted decor. We had homemade cherry cobbler with ice cream and talked a couple hours more. A WONDERFUL afternoon and evening for less than $30. They're two of my tribe and we're all unashamedly frugal. I love your cocoon image. We're all frugal butterflies in training. ❤❤❤
As of this week I’m debt-free. No mortgage, no car payment. New home built 2023. 63-year-old woman alone. Nothing I can buy feels as good as being debt free. Now deciding how much longer to work to maximize savings and delay SS. With no debt I can live on 40% of my take home pay and I’m mega saving. I love having a beautiful home and making it my hobby. Saves money to be happy at home. I did not start being frugal until 60 years old! Love your channel.
@@Erica-en2qz I have a good education and income, but I’ve always worked two and three jobs sometimes seven days a week to provide for my entire family that’s now gone. So extra jobs and then starting to become frugal, plus purchased one investment property when the real estate market crashed in 2009 and I was able to sell it for 4X what I paid for it. So I’m still working full-time plus at 63 and squirreling away as much cash as possible.
AHHHH!!!! THIS IS AMAAAAZING!!!! 63 and ROCKIN IT!!!!!! I'm so happy for you and proud of you!!!!! WOW! What a celebration!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And started at 60? LOVE LOVE LOVE!
I needed this today. My husband and I have saved and planned for 3 years to redecorate our home. We've budgeted and planned and for the past month, it's been in progress. However, even though the money set aside is for this project, it's given me anxiety when handing it out in large quantities! We are debt free and will remain so, but still!! I've been tight fisting for so long, it's hard to let go. 😅
I recently had the same experience. It can be difficult to enjoy our money, when we have been so focused on being frugal with it for a long time. Just remember, that is WHY you saved money: so you could do this project and ENJOY your home. It is ok to do that !
Love this! Just yesterday-I deleted all the negative social media accounts that I was watching. It was seriously starting to affect my well being. I’ve been saving for my future retirement home and this “cocoon time” is a great motivator. Thx!
Sit and knit how did you know :-). I have been kinda quiet lately but I still watch and love your videos. A quiet goal - I retired and decided to work part time a little over a year ago. I have been saving up for a used car and I MET MY $$$ GOAL! Now all I have to do is buy a car. I find this scarier than saving up lol. Little by little financial goals add up over time. I've had my savings goal sheet on my fridge for a year. I think this hit a grand slam with my 6 year old grandson - the value of saving up for what you want. He has helped me count how much money I have saved. Maybe he should be my first passenger when I buy the car.
My cocoon is when I cook and bake meals for my family and my son enjoys them😀 My cocoon is when I find ingredients on sale, that I actually need and rely on,and manage to save up!🎉
You are so, right, Kate! There are members of my family that tell me to have fun… I was trying to tell them about my ambitious plan to pay the mortgage off. Erg.😮
Love this! Here's me, celebrating some small stuff: I'm working toward paying off debt, saving money, etc. Yesterday I paid off a doctor bill I'd been paying on for a long time. It doesn't free up a lot of cash per month, but it's a debt GONE! I'd built up some savings, little by little, and in November we had to replace a washer and dryer in the same week--bought the washer on sale and the dryer used from a neighbor...plus we had to pay for a furnace repair and a small vehicle repair. I had to dip into savings. I've built it back up now, so YAY to that as well! Thanks for the encouragement!
❤👍 I suddenly lost husband of 45 years and my frugal cocoon is helping me cope with the fears and anxiety that rolled in with the grief. Every little step counts from figuring out exactly where things sit financially to creating a working budget and setting some goals.
Cocoon time, I’ve been spending my time focusing on my home and saving while paying off debts. It actually helped to focus on the home because I’m spending less. 😊
Gramma Katie here. So happy to see you today. Have a great time at the wedding. These tips are great. I don't March to a drummer . I dance to the Raga band
Cocoon time!!! For the 12 week year, almost ending, i will have accomplished my 3 goals. Paid off $3K loan. Saved $2K EF. (Even after paying $600 for prescription glasses i need. 😢) And saved $350 in ones and fives to pay off 2 medical bills at end of March. Next, 12 weeks will be to get a month ahead on all monthly bills, and to save 3 months living expenses. As well as save those ones and fives for next debt on the list. 😂
SOPHIA!!!!!! AHHHHHH! WOW WOW WOWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS INCREDIBLE! I'm sooooo proud of you! WOOT WOOT! This 12 week year is so helpful! WOW! Look at you! CONGRATULATIONS!
Cocoon Time😃😃. Home is our sanctuary and we’re trying to get rid of excess things. We’re eating out less and are being careful with using up food to decrease food waste and are cooking more!
Hey kate, i turned 30 today and remembered your video about what to do in your 20s for financial freedom.. :). Could you make a video about the best financial decisions in your 30s?
Cocoon time!! I needed this today!! I get kinda down when things don't happen as quickly as I want them to and I think I just need to stay motivated!! I am excited to get out of debt (in about three years), but some of the setbacks have really gotten me feeling down! I do tend to feel bad for unfollowing folks. I do discuss it with my hubby and realize that they have just grown in a different direction that I am going right now and I have to keep that in mind when I am going to unfollow them.
Cocoon time! Great ideas to keep me on the path. No overtime, and some time off sick have challenged me of late, but not as bad as it could have been if I hadn't been so frugal. I hope you have an awesome time at the wedding.
Hi Kate....glad to see you!!! You are a wonderful part of my Friday morning ! Thank you for the motivation. Had a couple 'hot mess' days 🙄and knew I could check in with you and the K-squad and reset!!!!
Thank you for sharing positive encouragement ... have been considering dropping out of a frugality group on Facebook because it has been so judgmental and competitive if you do things differently. I appreciate your support of the fact that there are different ways to fit different people and situations
Hii Kate 🙋🏻♀️ I hope your friend's wedding went well 💍 you know, I have never worn or knew anyone in a bridal party whose dress fit them well. I think it's a conspiracy to be sure no one looks better than the bride 🍾🥂 🤣🤣 Just wanted to relay that I am making "your" Olive Garden chicken recipe today ❤ I have cooked from scratch my entire life and cook professionally so this is reallly fun ❤ I did "the pour", the "shake shake shake" and the cream cheese "to the left" 😂😂😂 and of course fresh ground black pepper 👌🏻 I'm using a smaller, taller stainless crockpot for this one because I think the chicken will nestle deeper in the sauce to cook. I put my chicken breast pieces in still frozen (that were wrapped individually in freezer bags prior) and in my freezer. But recently purchased cockpots really cook fast 🌪 so, when the meat thermometer probe is inserted into the thickest piece of chicken and reads 165° it's done! 👌🏻👌🏻 You'll have to put my newest 7qt Crockpot on your Christmas list 🎄🎁 ..it is non-stick, digital settings and automatically clicks to warm when your cooking time is done (in case you are running late or forget the time) 😊 You're very busy so I bet you'd love it ❤ I think you should re-post that video ❤❤ in this economy it may be very welcomed ❤ and it's fun ❤ it is sweet and charming and it brings good tasting food. Im excited that im finally living intentionally and can go grab a coffee out occasionally paying with available funds not using credit cards to spend needlessly and enjoy the time out with friends
In my situation, finding my tribe came from getting more connected with green minded people in my area. Not the people who buy exclusively organic or claim to never use plastic or drive green (but expensive!) cars, but the ones who engage in repurposing, making do, using public transport rather than having a motor vehicle, ignoring the "normal" when the normal doesn't actually match their needs. Like our close friends whose stairway carpet is more threadbare than not, but they don't replace it because they don't need to. Maybe there's cultures in other parts of the world that can be people's frugal cocoon too. Perhaps in NE US it can be the Amish folk. My point is that the people who form ones frugal cocoon don't necessarily have to be doing their behaviours that are frugal BECAUSE they are frugal behaviours, it can be for other reasons, like to save the environment or because a book or religious authority figure told them to. The behaviours are still frugal.
Instead of stay in a cocoon I would prefer "stay in your lane"! We're not shutting people out and denying reality. But we are committed to our own journey and traveling in our own transport along that road, undeterred by naysayers! 😊
I love the Dave Ramsey way to buy a car with cash. I listened to him for a long time before I heard how to do it. It is possible, it just takes patience!
Basically you save up $500 a month for 10 months. Buy a $5,000 car, save up $500 a month for another 10 months, sell the $5,000 car and add another $5,000 and buy a $10,000 car. and so on and so forth. So smart!! This is of course after you have your debt paid off.
Often enough during our lives, people have verbally questioned our spending life style. While there have been times/ eras we havent been as frugal as others, these same people have had some wonderment over the number and type of "toys" weve had. "Toys" have often been tools, hobby or intetested related items, and even the radio control car we had. Was that car a $9.99 special or more expensive than our daily driver; no to both. It was expensive enough to be fast, sturdy for jumps and ramps, strong enough to put something (light) on or behind it, cheap enough it wasnt a high value theft item, and not require the hassle and saftey care of a gas motor. Had a lot of fun for a couple years until super glue and ducttape couldnt put it back together enough to run. Did we replace it? Nope, playing RC car wasnt worth the replacement cost for us.
Damn right a lot of the stuff is unimportant. I have enough physically. I have a cosy, secure home, and every evening I have a fantastic partner who comes home to me and we hang out together and eat together and at night we curl up in bed together - that stuff is important. The rest? Not so much. Contentment right here.

I stay away from negativity, people who can't handle money.
Their choice is exactly that.
I had to step back from an over spender. No spending encouragement from me!

I appreciate your support of the fact that there are different ways to fit different people and situations
You are very welcome and I'm SO GLAD YOU ARE HERE!
This was my favorite video EVER! So inspiring and just what I needed this morning!
This makes me so happy!!! So glad it was what you needed this morning 🙏❤️
Cocoon Time👏🏾
Hii Kate 🙋🏻♀️ I hope your friend's wedding went well 💍 you know, I have never worn or knew anyone in a bridal party whose dress fit them well. I think it's a conspiracy to be sure no one looks better than the bride 🍾🥂 🤣🤣
Just wanted to relay that I am making "your" Olive Garden chicken recipe today ❤ I have cooked from scratch my entire life and cook professionally so this is reallly fun ❤ I did "the pour", the "shake shake shake" and the cream cheese "to the left" 😂😂😂 and of course fresh ground black pepper 👌🏻
I'm using a smaller, taller stainless crockpot for this one because I think the chicken will nestle deeper in the sauce to cook. I put my chicken breast pieces in still frozen (that were wrapped individually in freezer bags prior) and in my freezer. But recently purchased cockpots really cook fast 🌪 so, when the meat thermometer probe is inserted into the thickest piece of chicken and reads 165° it's done! 👌🏻👌🏻
You'll have to put my newest 7qt Crockpot on your Christmas list 🎄🎁 ..it is non-stick, digital settings and automatically clicks to warm when your cooking time is done (in case you are running late or forget the time) 😊
You're very busy so I bet you'd love it ❤
I think you should re-post that video ❤❤ in this economy it may be very welcomed ❤ and it's fun ❤ it is sweet and charming and it brings good tasting food. Your cooking videos are a BEST KEPT secret 👩🏼🍳🤗🥰 I really enjoy them❣
Next up...the Kate Kaden chicken potpie recipe in a few weeks ❤

Cocoon time 📆📒
Damn right a lot of the stuff is unimportant. I have enough physically. I have a cosy, secure home, and every evening I have a fantastic partner who comes home to me and we hang out together and eat together and at night we curl up in bed together - that stuff is important. The rest? Not so much. Contentment right here.
