N.M.E is also used as a play on Enemy since the N.M.E magazine were the established musical press, the mainstream if you like so they were the N.M.E and the Enemy both. I should add that the phrase "dogs body" is another English phrase that means a person who is a 'lay about, do nothing' ... John would often sing "get off yer arse" ... All these references are about taking action and not just sitting about doing nothing on the couch ... so 'no dogs body' means I'm not a 'lazy sod' ... there's another reference. MPLA = Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola, or the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola - UDA = Ulster Defence Association were all Political party references ... IRA I'm sure even people outside the U.K would know.
It's a song full of acronyms. Enemy reads better than NME to me and makes more sense in the context of the acronyms in a later verse. The MPLA were the Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola, perhaps added because no groups in the British Isles at the time used 4 letter acronyms. The IRA were the Irish Republican Army and the UDA the Ulster Defence Association. Back in the 1970s "terrorist" groups had much more interesting acronyms.
Gotta love the Pistols. I was the first, and only one, in the dorm to pick up a copy of Never Mind The Bollocks. But I will never forget the time Mr. Anarchy himself, was on Judge Judy. He had fired his drummer for demanding more money, after agreeing to a tour. The drummer sued, and they wound up on Judge Judy. One of those surreal TV moments you never forget. Judge Judy ruled in John's favor too, I am happy to report. Even though she kept telling him to shut up.
Finally got GH3 like last week, on PS2, lol. Rhythm games weren't my thing when I waa younger. Pkayed this song and loved it instantly. Although sitting here smoking and listening, being able to pay full attention to the song. Want to say I actually have heard this years ago in like, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4, if not in another game from that series. That, or maybe I'm just high.
What i love about older punk music is that it can be interpreted literally for a hardcore rebel meaning or it can be interpreted in several more figurative ways, for example if you look at the lyrics closely this is an attack on culture of the time and location, not necessarily a literal anarchist message.
