- Chasing oil leaks and seeing what is going on with my 1984 Harley Davidson FXR with a built performance engine. With 210 compression on a 40 year old Harley, things can get saucey.

Who the hell is Ironhead Sally? Well here's my channel description:
Old School Bikes and Old School Ways! Ride hard, wrench a lot, and always having a blast.
Bike camping, wrenching, and shenanigans. My husband and I create motorcycle content for people that are tired of seeing all of the fake insta accounts of sponsored boring yuppies. Here's some realness, we are just broke bikers living the low life and getting by. I ride a 1985 Ironhead Chopper as my daily, my touring bike is a 1984 FXR. We have lots of Ironheads and FXRs and are constantly building more, trying to keep these old neglected scoots on the road instead of rotting away in a garage.
Appreciate all the love & support
Keeping it Real! Keep it Sketchy!

Oil leaks are great rust protection!
Nice bike!
“I don’t give two shits if the chrome shines or not”.
Perfect!
Spend time riding, not rubbing non important crap.
Exactly!! 🦅💚🏁💯 ride free and enjoy!
Great seeing you back. Love the humor, better laughing about it than crying.
There’s no crying in…wait, yes there is plenty of crying in building motorcycles 🤣🤣🥹😭 lol
I was driven by a inner force to subscribe. Your video craft is like Harley ASMR. Thanks for not selling me anything, but do appreciate the washing to check for leaks idea. I’m getting a bit older and might be subliminally one of the reasons I shower. Aloha Sally. 🍍
🤣 thanks for watching! Cheers and ride free. And yes, i wont be selling “affiliated links” on this channel, just selling the itch to ride lol 💯💚🔥🏁😁
Missed posting it on the outsiders clip but you nailed it 100 percent why I dig y'all you come Missouri we will ride a bunch
Appreciate it, thanks! Oh we need to go back to MO too! Beautiful country, underrated so less busy lol cheers man ride free!
Sally you are awesome, glad to see you posted a video. Good 👍 luck with the oil leak.
😎Dave H
Wooot thanks for watching Dave!!
Also to consider; on those older evos, just like the shovelheads, if the crankcase bottom breather isn't routed back up to the air cleaner and just exposed to the atmosphere, there's always going to be dampness of oil on the bottom of the motorcycle.
Oh yeah, i routed the bottom breather to a breather catch can by my saddle bag. It wasnt spitting too much but just that white oilly stuff. I think remnants of assembly lube lol
@@ironheadsally The white stuff would be condesation mixed with oil. Pretty normal.
Nice Moody Blues reference. But I find it odd, you never had to trailer a bike home. After 50+ years riding nothing but ironheads and Nortons, I've had to do so a couple of times despite being on top of things with preventive maintenance. And I agree 90% of things that happen, can be fixed on side of road by having a few parts and tools with you. I finally joined the modern world and went to alternators and EI on both my wifes 80 "bagger" ironhead, and my 73 chop (both our daily rides). That eliminates almost all roadside problems. And eliminated 99% of the spare parts I carried.
Yeah i’ve been lucky nothing too major that cant be worked thru. Tho i have limped home around 45mph before down the highway, but not walking. We have el ignition on all our ironheads too, make em simple as can be right!
Cool😎 Welcome back!
Glad to see you doing a video, was getting worried about you. If it aint leaking , it aint a Harley
if it aint leaking, its empty!!
✌😁✌
Oh yeah, i just like to keep track of them lol cheers Ed hope all is well!
@@ironheadsally keep the vids. coming. peace
There’s a seal up there in the primary that is known for leaking while the bike is in motion. Mine was where the starter shaft goes into the primary.
Ooof yeah we already has to replace that seal between the transmission shaft and that was a pain lol everything has some weak spots
Sally, have you checked into the compression release cams? Maybe they make one for that motor. I would really look into drilling holes in your heads and install manual compression releases. I have them in one of my bikes, never a hiccup and God sent…. 130.000 miles on that bike and I just barely rebuild the starter for the first time 5000 miles ago….
Old Harleys are the best Harley
Now I hope its going to be all right..Yet I will be checking out your future videos..to see what happens next....good luck...
Thanks for watching! 😁
A good idea is to run type F transmission fluid in your primary for two reasons.......you wil get better clutch engagement and.......since transmission fluid is red in color, you can easily tell exactly what component is leaking. Good luck with your diagnosis and repairs Sally.
Sweet, thanks
Awesome..lives up to its name..good shit !
Hell yeah, thanks for watching! 💯🔥
Hi Sally, glad to see you. You should check to see if them screws on that bottom plate of them Delkron cases aren't too long. I've seen them be bottomed out, and the plate is just barely snug.
Yeah we checked, they are surprisingly short. I get worried about stripping the tiny things everytime 🤣 lol
Happy to see ya'll back with another video.
Thanks for watching and keeping with us! 😁
Good to see you back
Damn that oil leak. Understand how you feel. And spot on re warming up engine and doing preventative maintenance etc. Great to hear you again and thanks for the update. Love to hear how that truck is going too. Cheers from down under 🇦🇺 Stan.
Cheers Stan! Thanks for watching 💚 he’s back home so we might work on another trucking video. Hope you’re having a great time and getting out riding! 😁
Good to see you back. :)
Thanks!! 😁
Dayum, Delkron engine cases? If i had a swing like you in my back yard I'd never leave the house.🎉
I’ve never heard that one before, i’ll take it i think 😁🤣 cheers! Ride free
Put a quart of redline in the primary n see if your leaking outa there 😊
Have you seen the redline prices? lmao jk 🤣😁 thats a good idea
@@ironheadsally black light fluero dye then 😆
Hope you 2 are well... just got a second sportster. It gets delivered tomorrow sometime. Only problem is they are getting newer. This one is a little 2006 883 low with a very nice new ss carb. Never gad 2 in the garage at once though
Oh thats a great feeling having multiple bikes for different occasions! Congrats, hope you rip it up and have a blast on it! 💚🤘
I love fxr. First harley I ever rode. 22 years ago. I inherited her from my uncle. I'm spending money on her and she likes money. Lol
Ohh you were ruined from the start by starting off on an FXR 😜🏁💯🔥💚 thar is awesome, and yeah they sure like money!
Be a good idea to maye pull motor this wi.ter and have thatpan and bottom of cases resurfaced. If it is a repaet problem leaking in same spot, there is probably a problem with the mating surfaces. In the mean time, a nice paper gasket, no silicon or any goop out of any tube, put on completdry and tieghtened down evenly all around. That should do the trick
If these cases get pulled out of this frame, then my harley cases are going back in. LoL or i’d sell these for another case. But this bike aint gonna be down for a rebuild until it is broken lol! Cheers
Cool 👍✌️
😁💚🔥🏁💯
Good video
I'm with you on the high compression..next time I pull the heads for base gaskets I'm going to have decompression switches installed. I burn through batteries and starters. But damn they sound good 👍
Right, thats the price for power! lol not gonna roll start that! 🤣
Git it girl !!!!! 👍🍺 SLICK
Woooot!! Cheers man
Greaybeard wrench here, please I implore you, when using clamps on any machine, use only crimp clamps/ AN fittings/ or my favorite high pressure fuel injection clamps on oil lines.Never never ever use worm drive clamps on anything because they are crap. That's 1800s technology and there is no excuse besides you blew out a hose in BFE and the hardware store didn't have high pressure fuel injection line clamps. Other than that, use them only and you will get in many more happy miles, than you will shop time chasing leaks👍💯💯
Lol great video
I have found with 58 years of ridding leave motors near stick for everyday rides.
Yeah i’m learning. Had to try it and had the opportunity to build a runner, everyone wants a sweet go fast at least once 😁 lol
Nonleaking FXRs are as rare as unicorns.
🦄
Right! lol
I like this bike. What is it called? Not a sportster right? I would like to look into getting one. 0004 grade steel wool on chrome. No need to polish.
FXR, the best handling Harley Davidson has ever produced IMO. 😎🦅💚🏁
If you clip a zip tie.... If you check the tread depth.... If you change the oil.... If you ride to the grocery store..... make a video. Show us what biker life looks like for you 2. And EVERY time you wrench on them, show us. Thanks for your effort thus far.
id watch every sec0nd t00.
✌😁
🥹thanks! I’ll try to bring the camera along more!!
In my URAL owners manual it says oil leaks are normal unless it's like a quart of oil an hour.
Oh wow, thats awesome!! lol
❤❤❤❤
🔥 💯💚
👍😎👍
.
Just so ya know, my bikes only get washed when it rains. Once in a blue moon, some ole gal will offer to wash my bikes. At least I don't feel bad about having to buy an extra whataburger. Y'all hang in there n b good. Love y'all, from Louisiana.
Whataburgers are tasty, sounds fair 😜 lol! Cheers and thanks for watching!!
I cringed when I saw a PBR bucket being used in such a dastardly way 😂
Well i do apologize for my dastardly deed, fret not tho, for this PBR bucket has had a fruitful life before it’s retirement into the shop lol! 🍻
@@ironheadsally you can make up for it by filling it up with PBR and toasting all of us old fat guys who love PBR
❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍👍
wish my oil leaks were that bad, LoL.
Hope for the best oil leaks suck good content
Appreciate it! Yeah they’re evidence of miles lol
A old bike will get you home. The newer bike with all the extra electronics and gadgets will leave you setting waiting on the toe truck.
missed u face!!
👋😘
😂
h0w g0es ur ir0nhead d0lling?!?!
Miss youu!! We will see u tomorrows tho 💪😎💚🔥🔥🤘 fuk to the yeah!
@@ironheadsally
cant wait!!!
🤘😁🤘
My fricking pushrods are leaking. I put in new seals and.....still leaking.😢
Dangit! Those can be finnicky too!! Best of luck
It’s only a bad oil leak if your rear tyre is shiny lol nah, hopefully you get it & it’s not critical
Right 🤣 i still had traction, why so dramatic LOL!
+1 не умер и не в тюрьме!
)
Yes! 😄💚😁
When do HD's go off road? Karaoke is Japanese for tone deaf. Real bikes leak oil but not too much.😂
💪😁💚🏁💯
Well apparently, everyone has missed you guys including me. I agree with @bruce1816 as I have made that mistake myself and now realize that the details will always bite you in the @$$.
Woot! Thanks, i’ll have more soon 😄 and oh snap yeah the little things lead to bigger issues
