I really like the images you are/were getting with the R1. I really like the pelican images with it flying in "ground effect" just over the waves. I have not seen a bird do that better than pelicans do, it is fun to watch. I like the shore birds too. They are fun to watch avoiding the surf while looking for food. I changed my default speed down to 15 fps, I found 30 fps was too fast most of the time. I set a "speed boost" button that changes it to 30 fps while I am holding the button. I am taking a lot fewer images but I don't feel like I am missing any shots. I am curious to see what you are going to have with you in Arizona in April. I am really looking forward to that trip.
The Pelicans are really awesome and you are correct - better than other birds over the waves. I am also really looking forward to Arizona in April a LOT. I will most likely have the R3 unless I can figure out what to sell to get the R1. Editing the last of the shots and the last video with that beast. The R1 IS the body I want to have with me though. The rental for the week will be about as much as the trip..... so it might be better just to buy one!!! I just set it to the 40 max and left it there the whole time, If it were mine, I would have set more custom buttons but I keep the rentals simple. 🙏🤗💖

If we're honest, at $6300 the R1 is...WAAAAAAAAAAY Overkill for the kind of photography we shoot. Especially when you can get a refurbed R3 from Canon for $2999.
Well, I disagree after shooting the the R1 for a week. Before I rented it, I thought the same but the accuracy of the focus, the speed of the focus, the clarity, the low light capability..... no. The leap from the R3 to the R1 is almost like going from a DSLR to an R5 for the first time. It is worth the price. This has been a body that just knocked my socks off and I only used a small bit of what it can do. 🙏🤗💖

Nice video again. The bird at 5.59 has clearly a more dark back then the ones in Europe. The Herring Gull complex?
