  • Matt Wright found 'Bone Cruncher' wounded in the wild after a fight with a much bigger Croc. He's spent the past 5 years keeping an eye out for him. He knows Matt's behaviour and Matt knows his, but their relationship is one in a million.
Never attempt to interact with a wild Croc

Can’t get enough of Bonecruncher! Working with alligators really showed me how complex these animals can be with their own unique personalities, but I am blown away by this croc. We try not to anthropomorphize reptiles, yet it’s hard not to think that Bonecruncher experiences joy whenever Matt’s around and interacting with him. Sure, he’s clearly food-motivated, but his lack of aggression towards Matt makes me wonder if this croc is acutely aware of his disadvantage and recognizes the symbiotic relationship they’ve formed. The animal behavior nerd in me finds that utterly fascinating. 😄

This crocodile is not normal. It is blind in one eye with a mutilated mouth and possibe brain injury. There are NO normal healthy crocodiles in Australia this size that could be interacted with in this way. If they can reach you, they WILL GET YOU. Unlike alligators their predatory instincts are not negotiable and you should not expect to get this close to a salt water crocodile in Australia.

in the words of Frump: "That's something, ain't that something" Even though these crocs are deadly creatures and normally we don't worry about them, the sight of seeing this croc with that injury is still painful. Crocs have it good by growing new teeth when they lose them, so not being able to grow a new jaw must be be like not getting a mile when you were already given an inch. Would be nice to see more videos of this special relationship.

Saw this crocodile on one of Matts tours in the NT. Was on an airboat in the large main lagoon he mentioned which was a natural environment only accessible by sea plane and then the airboat. It stalked the boat and then came right up to the platform where i was standing with the indigenous guide with its snout only a few inches from our feet. The guide did the same thing petting the top of it's snout and said i could also if i wanted but no f....ing way was i putting my hand anywhere near it. Doesn't look so big in this clip but if you look at it's head it is bigger than Matts upper body. I can guarantee it's huge and the raw size and power of it scared the bejesus out of me. Teeth or no teeth if it gets hold of you it's game over. I will never forget it and for him to be in the water like that even though he 'knows' it is insane. If you ever get the chance to go to Darwin make sure you go on Matt's Seaplane adventure. Expensive but worth every cent. Will never forget it.
    P.s. They don't feed it.

Crocodiles confound me, on one hand they are vicious extremely vicious predators that have a unmatched survival killer instinct, then on the other hand you have what seems to be a primitively sentient animal that seems no matter how rudimentary to be able to be trained. The Croc in this video almost seems to be having fun and enjoying the company, I will take into effect that this crock is injured and has no teeth but that would seem to make a person think that this type of croc would be looking for easy prey anyhow I digress. They are indeed a magnificent machine of nature.

It’s just like what the late Crocodile Hunter caught that lost it’s lower jaw from another Crocodile. Only it was Bigger. This Salty is different & it’s a good thing it wasn’t attacking.
