Hi Greg, your videos are great! I always learn a lot! I would like to ask you a question. You who have contact with the two units (fm3 and fm9) in relation to the sound and depth of the reverbs, do you think the fm3 delivers an excellent sound like the fm9? I know that in relation to fm3, we have to be aware of the CPU limit. However I saw that in the reverbs settings, we can choose between (normal, high, ultra high..) Do you think that if you balance the effects chain by giving up one or another effect.. and selecting the high option on the reverbs, it is possible get as good sound on fm3 as on fm9? I play a lot of worship. And I've seen in some videos that the fm9 delivers impressive quality in reverbs. So I would like to know if in your opinion, if we make some adjustments, it is possible to achieve a result as good as in fm3?
Yes all the amps, effects, etc are same sound quality. Plenty of folks using only the fm3 for worship. With the quality options on the reverbs you can really tweak presets to get where you want. Worship presets always push the envelope on the fm3 but it will work fine stand-alone. Everyone has their own preset needs though. It worked fine for me without the big sky. I just wanted the option to save cpu but honestly I never expanded my presets to be very complex so my presets always ran around 50-60% when I had the big sky. I could have very well ditched it.
Hi again Greg!! I know you are now using the FM9, but for this particular setup how you setup your BigSky to be able to maintain tails between scenes and also use it in parallel? Thanks a lot !!
I believe this was the reverb persist setting on page 7 in the big sky manual. Set it to on so the reverb will still persist once it’s bypassed. Also make sure you have the dry signal set to “kill”. Page 21. Hope that helps.
Hello Greg great video as always. I bought a mosky stand in switch which i believe is just like your homemade one and was wondering if it's possible to assing scene 4 in the left button and tunner in the right one as a tap function and also using hold for going up and down presets? Thanks and keep the great vids coming
Yes you can do that. It takes a little fiddling but I was able to test it out and it works fine. Once you are in the FC menu in the setup, you can go to the stand in tab, select the mosky tip/ring, and then under layout you select layout 2 (if that is scenes for you), then on the switch column, just pick switch 4 since that is already assigned to scene 4. Then go to the other switch and select the utilities layout under the layout column or whatever layout the tuner is already on, and on the switch column, scroll over to where it's already assigned and select that. For the hold functions, select "GOTO SWITCH" and then tab over to the hold tab and then configure select "Preset" for the category, then Inc/Dec for function, +1 or -1 for Increment/Decrement, etc. No wrap unless you have just a few presets you want to cycle through. If that is the case, then you can define the upper and lower limit. Then just do the opposite for the other switch's hold function to bank the other direction. Hope that helps.

Great tips and video, for which I appreciate as usual. (AA) only single ex. pedal do a job, let's say WAH,VOLUME,Whammy,etc...then a dedicated block should be on per preset, not global setting.. correct? (BB) Stand-In switch is allowed to do a HOLD function?..How to make it please. Thank you.
Yes dedicated block per preset on the Wah, etc. It's a little tricky to try and use 2 different functions there, so I always have one or the other. As far as the stand in switch, the tap/hold functions are configured in the setup menu, FC controllers, stand in tab. From there you can configure the tip/ring functions and then click "goto switch" and there are tap and hold areas you can program. I'd have to see if I can find time to make a video dedicated to just the stand in switch but this explanation is all I have for now. Chris over at Axefx tutorials has a video out there as well explaining how to program one. He doesnt show the hold functions but if you press that "go to switch" option you will see the hold area on the tab up top and can program it the same way as he shows the initial tap function programming.
Great video thank you! Is there any way to make scenes switch at the exact time you hit the foot switch? There’s always a slight delay and it’s super annoying. I understand that switching presets will be delayed but scenes too?
Generally the gap is caused by switching amp channels. Only way around that is using scene controllers on one amp to adjust parameters. That way it stays on the same channel. Not ideal so if you want the flexibility of amp channels you will have to live with the gap.
Is there a specific dual switch I should buy to use with the fm3? I saw on Reverb that American Loopers makes one specifically for Fractal units, but is it any different then one that would work with something like an hx stomp?
There is one on amazon that a few people get that's made by mosky. Just search 2 button momentary switch. I haven't tried it but people say it works. You need momentary/normally open switches.
If I understand well, you choose to add a great Reverb pedal in order to win CPU with the FM3 and use outside a Reverb. Yeah... it's a great idea. I have to think about this. Phil from Dunkirk
@@GregSummersMusic I suspect you made the right choice because, even though the FM3 is a very good amp and cab simulator, it's CPU was already very limited the day it was sold on the world market. And that is really shameful from FRACTAL. That's why I don't like them. We are musicians not suckers.
@@ALIASZARDOZ I would respectfully disagree on this. The FM3 is still very powerful. Any unit can run out of CPU and they have 2 models to choose from. The FM3 is very portable and I do miss that. The FM9 is for those that want a floor unit with little to no compromise and their flagship is of course the Axe FX 3. This isnt any different from someone like line 6 etc. The HX stomp has similar limitations and if you see most board, folks are running it mainly for amp and cab but have many pedals with it. WIth the options on the FM3 to adjust quality you can still make some great presets. Nothing wrong with their approach on the FM3, but yes, others do feel like you. I just don't quite see it that way and in a lot of ways I miss having my FM3. My son has an FM3 and he plays on the youth worship team and has no complaints on CPU.
@@GregSummersMusic With all due respect, I understand very well your approach and your comments. I agree with you on the sound quality of the FM3 product, but then I don't understand you for the rest : you say that the FM3 is this, that, great for this, great for that... and yet you sold it ?!?... It is very surprising... Why did you sell it since you miss it so much ? Isn't there a total contradiction on your part ?
@@ALIASZARDOZ My statement on missing it...I said it's very portable and I miss that. It's a very cool unit. Just because I upgraded to the FM9 doesnt mean I don't like the FM3 anymore or that I couldn't have survived with the FM3. Like I said, the FM9 just allows more...more power, dual amps, etc. There is a product tier for everyone in my opinion. Also, my kid has an FM3 so if I want to use that I can and I do for some gigs. I just couldn't justify keeping it and it helped me afford the FM9 as well.
Not far off from this preset but last week I have been experimenting with dual amps since moving to the fm9. I don’t have the big sky anymore and so I’m dialing in everything on the unit. Some pros and cons there but overall working well.

I’m on the waitlist for the fm9. For most stuff, the FM3 would be just fine, but P&W pushes the limit for sure. I can get by but like you see here I added the big sky for more options, but I also introduce some complexity and work for making patches. With the added power of the fm9 it would enable me to go back to using the fractal on its own with less limitations. The extra foot switches are a bonus as well. I’m not thrilled with the fact that I’m stuck with the larger footprint though. I’m a fan of the FM3’s modular approach but I know that many others were waiting for the ax8 replacement and they’ve done it (and exceeded) with the FM9.
Lots going on health wise so not keeping up with things. Too much to get into but still playing often just not a lot of energy for content. Thanks for the comment ;-)
I don’t think I said that here at all. For me it’s about CPU for some of my presets and giving me the freedom to add more than I could if I used built in reverbs. The reverbs in the FM3 are fantastic and I have no issue using them. If you don’t need the extra cpu then don’t bother with an external reverb unless you like to “twist them knobs”.

@@GregSummersMusic ..Thank you very much. appreciated..
Yes this is correct. I really didnt have to but it enabled me to not worry as much about CPU with some my more ambient presets.
Is that an iPad stand holder I see there attached to your board?
Yea not the most ideal but it works
Hi, did you try strymon iridium?
No I haven’t tried one.
What power supply are you using?
CIOKS Big John. Powers the fm3 and pedals.
Thanks man!
Does the Temple audio pedalboard case fit with the fm3 being so tall being 4”? Or did you have to get a custom case?
No issues with the temple soft case. I don’t have the flight case so I can’t answer that one unfortunately.
GREG!!! what presets are you using these days? Anything new?
Not far off from this preset but last week I have been experimenting with dual amps since moving to the fm9. I don’t have the big sky anymore and so I’m dialing in everything on the unit. Some pros and cons there but overall working well.
@@GregSummersMusic right on. You been doing alright? Saw your last video was uploaded about a year ago and read somewhere you had a couple surgeries.
@@Rrouthmusic one was planned jaw surgery, but around same time eye dr found rare eye melanoma so I had surgery to shrink that but dealing with that aftermath because this kind of melanoma is likely to travel to other organs down the road so on a clinical trial up north which is taking a lot of time and energy for treatments both in Miami for the eye and Phili for what could come later. Stressful to say the least and been real demotivator but working through it all. It's just a slow and frustrating mental process.

I’m praying for you bro! Don’t lose motivation for the things that you love. You’re awesome Greg!
@@Rrouthmusic thanks! Yes, trusting in Gods plan for sure.
Hi Greg, are you going to switch to the FM9? Do you think it really worth it? Or the FM3 it’s just enough for P&W stuff? Thanks !!
@@GregSummersMusic Awesome Greg, I got you! Many thanks for your answer… btw I’m on the waitlist too haha. Blessings !!
Thanks! Same to you. Good luck 👍🏼
It's been a long time since you've dropped a video. Just reaching out to let you know YOU'RE MISSED. Hope all is well with you and yours. (!!!)
Yes for sure. Thanks for the miss I’ve had a couple surgeries with some long recovery times. Hoping to get back very soon.
Greg, Miss your posts. Hope all is okay, brother.
Lots going on health wise so not keeping up with things. Too much to get into but still playing often just not a lot of energy for content. Thanks for the comment ;-)
@@GregSummersMusic So sorry to hear that, Greg. Will be keep you in my thoughts and look forward to seeing you again. 🙏🏻
Thanks Steven!
We need some new videos
I hear ya. I’ve had a couple major surgeries with long recovery times. I’m working my way back.
Good video + sub 👍😎🙋♂️
Thanks for the sub!
Guy connected Big Sky to FM3 a year ago, was never heard from again...
Vanished
bigsky sounds better than fractal fm3 reverbs? thats my doubt...
