You Were very lucky to get this footage since the Philippine mars been pretty much parked since the summer of 2007 I took photos of its last flight and water drop that summer.
I grew up in Port Alberni and those are my most Favorite plane's, I was at Battleship Island camp yearsss ago and we paddle in canoe's and went under one of the wing's and it was huge, it sure would be sad if either of the plane's left Port Alberni.
I live in Port and My dad works at Coulsen on the bombers hes been flying around Port putting out lots of fires they are not for show! FOREST FIRES (they are the biggest waterbombers in the world)
Yes 2 Martin Mars bombers are left... the Hawaii Mars and the Philippine Mars... i live near their base and have followed them since they came to Port Alberni
it looks kinda confusing, but really it is hundreds of gallons of water being released as quickly as possible, so as it falls it separates and looks puffy. I would really not like to stand under it, it's a bit more than a shower.
The Spruce Goose was little more than a wooden prototype that barely flew once. The Mars had many years of distinguished service both as transports and water bombers. TheMars earned their keep the Spruce Goose accomplished nothing really.
That plane is gorgeous. Gives me goosebumps like the Sentimental Journey B-17.

I was on cowichan lake one of those things came down and picked up water really close to me, it was pretty cool to watch that close up.

The side dump Philippine Mars. The Hawaii Mars dumps from the underside.
I didn't know they fly that far, I heard about that when they had fires in california
are you talking about fire planes or planes that land on water.
Hi, Sorry to take so long, but I didn't know the answer until today. Yes it will take place July 10-12 2008.
Ya, both are based out of Sprout Lake just outside of Port Alberni.
They are based at SPROAT LAKE in PORT ALBERNI
Hey! Quiz question!!! aren't there only two of these aircraft left? beautiful eh!

I have stood under the bomber releasing its load over our Brownie pack i was in... we got wet and loved it lol
Nice! Very nice video!
If they did not work, do you think they would risk lives sending the bombers in harms way?
Before you write garbage, investigate your subject. These planes are invaluable in fighting fires.
funny I was there too at my family we have some videos of it too, greets from holland
What a beautiful bird. Its too bad they are being sold off
You actually think they would destroy a peice of history by placing turbo props on these???
Yeah that make sense! Drop water on water.
they have got to be for show, Port Alberni isn't high risk for forest fires.
A mini Spruce Goose!
Hardly mini.

things change, they were originally supposed to be used for WW2.
