Two of the best performers on the 1930's. Al Bowlly had one of the greatest voices at this time. He died in the Blitz in 1941. Such a loss for the music world.
There are many versions of the song. Some ommit the intro that is in the monia liter version as in Ray nobles version. I love them both but I think the intro completes the song
@@thegoldenageofalbowlly2759 I liked the sax solo on the Ray Noble version btw. And I have a few 78s of him with his band, and he did have some instrumental solos at the end of each song. Which I really like.
@@thegoldenageofalbowlly2759 Ohhhhh......I actually like this better; his voice is much clearer. The unfortunate thing about those old 78's is the vocalist sounds like they're singing through a coffee can......
It is indeed a pity the British film industry of the 1930s did not try to star Al in his own musicals - his few film roles - notably - The Mayor's Nest (1932) show a man with personality and at ease in front of the camera
Wonderful music. There is a very short snippet with Monia Liter video at the beginning - any idea if a full version of that video is available anywhere?
Hi gregory, it's from a video entitled "Impressions of Al Bowlly" it also has, Nat gonella, Roy Fox, Joyce Stone, Tiny winters, and a few others all being interviewed. The link is here.. th-cam.com/video/YoFDY7MUSbo/w-d-xo.html
@@thegoldenageofalbowlly2759 thanks a lot for the link - what a treat to see this! Monia Liter was a relative (a great uncle, I think) whom I unfortunately never met.

Both recorded in London, the Monia Liter version on 9 April and that wth Ray Noble a few days earlier, on 5 April.
Didn't know there were two versions of this song, till now.

This song describes Al Bowlly
wow thankyou.
You're very welcome 😁👍
Is this a remastered version? The vocals are much clearer and more in front in the mix.
Yes. I remastered it. I actually remaster them all 👍

Apparently they thought the opposite. But I agree with you 👍
