Jason and Jerry trying to out Tycho each other while rping nosferatu is just the best.
I love how Jason Carl patiently plays along with all the chatter and jokes, but still hits the plot points he wants and then yanks the mood back to dead serious and truly foreboding at the end of the episode.
For a room filled with vampires; Ventrue, Tremere, Toreador and Malkavians the one's that steals the show are the two Nosferatu! I just love the RP in this episode. :D
Nosferatu always steal the show.. and nobody notices..
This episode was amazing. "Emotional Support ghoul" has to be the best line I have heard in a while.

Betty guiding Tom through this soiree and wanting him to be comfortable in the scenario is just delightfully sweet and hilarious. I'm really starting to love the way Mike and Jasmine play off each other. And poor Amanda! Gosh. Such an enjoyable episode. Jason Carl is swiftly becoming a favorite GM of mine.
He is really good.....this being my first taste of The Masquerade I've wasnt aware of him until now.

I like how everyone is getting more settled into their characters. There is less interruptive table talk and more in character action.

Hats off to Jason Carl. After letting the players off the leash for a while, you delivered a hard dose of cold water and horror to all of them, and especially the one who is always most full of himself, Jamison, with that prophecy.
Very instructive to see that when you want to, you can make everyone sit down and shut up, and remind them that this isn't D&D, it's a world of horror.
This was a fantastic episode. There was something really fun for each player to do: Betty messing with Amanda and her father, Tom finding artistic purpose in his unlife, Amanda learning something big about her father, and Jamison making a BFF and hearing his creepy fortune. I can't wait to see what else Jason Carl presents next time. :D
@Ben Bateman Yeah, I was thinking he should've said "Hey, if you can find out who I need to learn that from, I'll put as much ink on you as you want." Being a Toreador who isn't obsessed with tattoos herself, it would hardly be of any cost to Tom in time and effort. I'm sure Jason Carl realizes how new he is and will probably bring it up again or make getting that ability doable later, though. For a Kindred who cares so little about anything in the world, the storyteller has to have SOMETHING to encourage the players, and Tom gives the least of a damn of all of them. =p
The wide range of characters that Jason Carl switches to and from on a dime are just brilliant with their wide range of personalities, I adore Mr. Carl's performance and am chomping at the bit for Bloodlines 2
I loved the whole scene at Elysium. I was very much tickled with the two Nosferatu’s exchange.
I'm not sure if it's Jason Carl's style, but I'd love to see a post-game table talk like they do with the C Team. He's so good at sticking the endings, it would be fun to see the players digesting the game.

My fiancé is currently playing a former veterinarian Lasombra and is doing it beautifully. I do understand the difficulty in using certain clans but it’s so fun when done right

I thought it would have been more interesting if Amanda's father hadn't been a vampire. EDIT: I should have listened to the rest of that scene before I commented! This is getting good!
Well yes the interesting question so early in the series is did he find out about kindred and she got turned to ensure his silence or did he get caught providing for his daughter and got forced into this to protect her.
@@anvos658 Oh man I've been dying to talk to someone about this show. So, in this episode, after the sculpture fell, I was half expecting Amanda to stand up, dust herself off, and scream "Daddy!" and run to him across the room, find him all bloody and punctured, cut to ribbons. I wonder how things would have been different, if she'd knelt beside him with the life draining out, and if she'd ripped open her own wrist with her teeth and fed him? Would she need a humanity check? Would that affect the connection he already had with his owner?

@19:56 Careful there - microwaving blood may curdle it. Much better use indirect heat: slowly heat water in a big glass, suspend inside a smaller glass with your blood, employ a magnetic stirring rod to distribute the heat evenly. Any lab supplier will sell you these, and certainly Betty can afford several of the better ones.

The Gorge is one of my favorite venues to see Phish at. It's a very long trip for me. I have only done twice. But wow what a party.
It took a little while for me to fall in love with this crew but they are fun. Different to LA by Night - more upbeat. These guys are more of a B team which makes their victories all the more satisfying. Still hoping LA by Night will return someday.

I have to agree that Odette seems to be fairly 'real' and thus seems like she could be a good source for general info. I almost get a vibe from her similar to that of Jack from Bloodlines. For the time being, I feel like some light and casual leaning on Odette could reveal good framework info.

Point of order: I see that they keep using Hunger dice for Rouse checks here. Hunger dice are never used for Checks, Willpower, or Humanity rolls. At the start, Tom gets a 1 on a Hunger dice for his Rouse Check and suddenly his Hunger goes up by 2. Should have been a regular dice and only gained 1 Hunger. :)
I wonder, if you microwave blood does it at that point become a normal food (i.e. inedible, tastes like ashes) since it was cooked?

Mr. Carl. Since this seems like a good place to get a hold of you I have an L.A. related question if you don't mind. Say Isaac Abrams encountered someone who was the exact imagine of "The one who got away," what would his reaction and actions towards this person be?
Prince of Spokane? I wonder if they're still doing the roughly 1 vampire to 100,000 humans like in 1st edition. If so the greater Spokane metro area would have something like 5 kindred in total. ;p
People often forget that since China is Kue-jin, not Kindred land the ratio doesn't paint an accurate picture, let alone most kindred are drawn to urban areas, which would throw the numbers even further off. Let alone if you work it out that way the Primogen position would be pointless since each would only be representing like 3-5 other people.
When we getting the Juggalo By Night series?
I believe Juggalos would attract every one of Clans.
Wait a minute, Tom went to hunger 2 on waking? I'm sure he has stayed at zero throughout the previous sessions?
Looking at where that happened, I think Mr. Carl forgot Tom was at 0 hunger because that's sort of rare, with the killing thing. Suppose he assumed Tom was at 1 and would go to 2. And Mike just shrugged and went with it.

not to be that guy, but at 14:30, or a few seconds before, whoever is doing the overlay upped Tom's hunger before Jason noticed, and then upped it again after he said it goes from 1 to 2. So, he should be at one lower.

Shming Master Tom’s counter was wrong to begin with. He would only have a hunger of 0 if he had drank someone dry, otherwise you can only be at level 1. So hunger 2 is correct.

@@juliusweiss5447 He did do that, in their equivalent of an Episode 0. He alluded to it this episode, but it occurred in a bathroom in Montreal. Since all of them started at 0 hunger I'm thinking they did some sort of massacre that had to be covered up.
When discussing Jerry's dietary restriction, I can't believe no one asked "like, you have to eat a rabbi?"

I'd bet a $1 that Tom's a Blood Leech. It seems suspicious how JC (through the persona of Gravenstein) kept pushing him to eat that Tremere goon in ep.7 - like, "here's your chance; show us your Monster."
highlights for me were:
Tom schmoozing with anyone not in the coterie. Not being in forced socialization does wonders for a person
and the fortune telling parable.
I could do without the daughter who blames their daddy for everything, imagine holding on to that for eternity.
her dad is hot though
Enjoying it overall but I hope the obvious jokes and barely funny comments are cut down to a minimum. If it were baseball, Tom would be hitting an average of .133
IPA's are pretty awful, comparing them to pumpkin spice lattes about wraps them up.
Um, this series seems just a wee bit too into fashion for my taste, but at least the role playing is good.
What about LA by Night?
It's because vampires are all about status and power plays, and so is fashion often enough. That's why they focus on it so much. It's not that clothes makes the man, but rather that the clothes someone wears tells you many things about the person in question.

@@TheEnoEtile You are correct that I have never watched anything from Penny Arcade before, but was I expecting a super serious and angsty game? Not exactly. As I said in a comment on the first video of this series, I recognize that not every VtM game has to be soul-crushingly dark; I watch quite a few different VtM campaigns on TH-cam, and no two are exactly the same. The Chicago By Night campaign run by Near Dark Studios, for example, uses quite a bit of humour, but they find ways to work it into the game itself. In contrast, the players here, especially the two guys, go off on tangents that have little to nothing to do with the actual game, their characters, or advancing the story. It becomes annoying and honestly a bit grating. The characters themselves are interesting, the story (that which I am able to follow anyway) that is woven by Jason Carl is excellent, and the players of Amanda and Betty are rather good. I just have difficulty concentrating on the good when I am constantly being bombarded by irrelevant attempts at humour that I personally find to be more distracting than funny. It's just not to my personal taste.
@@liminal_entity1331 I mean that's Gabe (Mike) and Tycho (Jerry) it's kind of their thing. They're fucking around and this game is a venue in which to fuck around. They're not gonna take it very seriously and they're not gonna focus. But they are gonna get DMed by the best in the business. They have a draw beyond the game and the fanbase. That's why Jason Carl is DMing this and why Chris Perkins DMed their D&D campaign. Also the vast majority of the audience are most likely Penny Arcade fans who came to watch Jerry and Mike fuck around and would be disappointed if they didn't.
@@liminal_entity1331 and I'm not trying to gatekeep. Penny arcade is great. Its predominantly a webcomic as well as the company that hosts one of (if not the) largest gaming conventions in the world, and a children's chairty. And they had a couple of fairly popular D&D campaigns. It might help to look at some of their other work to get a handle on the tone and style they're going to go for.
Honestly it's a roller coaster of fuckery, they get into it and let scenes breath when the tension ramps, but sometimes they step in and deflate the tension, no big deal its how their table works, LA By Night is almost 0 on side chatter and even out of character inquiries are handled quickly and back into the scene.
Its not better or worse, just different, this is definitely more like home groups than LA by Night for sure.
If the amount of side chatter were reduced about 20% it would probably be right where both VTM angst fans and PA fans would both be satisfied.
Still I've gotten more interested each episode that goes by, they are finding a good stride.
If you want a game for politics play WtA and if you want a game for fighting play VtM rofl.
My guy, politics is in almost damn near everything no matter the time or edition.

Man, I'm starting to struggle with this Series. Carl is as awesome as ever, but the players....
Jamison's player talks too much and constantly interjects and interrupts the STer and other players. Tom is being portrayed as more of a Malkavian than a Toreador. Betty isn't a very convincing Lasombra. Amanda is awesome, but I'd love to see her let her Tremere flag fly more.
Either way, the two male players are starting to ruin it for me.

The basic draw of the two guys is that they own a company/charity that they made themselves and have played with the lead story writer of wizards of the coast / dnd for over a decade, as well as cranking out a comedic webcomics twice a week.
They've role played soo hard that they can basically only do meta commentary.

Krahulik can crack me up so there's always room for jello. but i like hearing a little about the flavor vision from enthusiasts. thx *after all they are playing, not acting out a story just for viewers, they're playing for themselves.
