Later with the era of the Renaissance and Baroque the new city form was the residental city with the castle as the main focus. Every street led to the castle. In the 1800 and early 1900 cities expanded with the famous "Wilhelminischen Ringen". They were quadratic with a little yard in the middle of the apartment block. So these are my advices if you want to be historic accurate.
In 1920 most railway are build. It was also the great time in Germany of the " Kleinbahn und Schmalspurbahn" . I hope you have some nice European Steam Locomotives.
the time the palace has built looks like 1700, 1800. In such an important city as u said in the beginning the palace will need a nice French/Austrian/Russian or even Luxembourg garden with geometric symmetry style (fontains would be cool too).

MY MAYBE ABRIDGED-FAN HISTORY OF ALTENGRAD: It was probably founded by the Slavs but the Germanic Christians overtook, because the land over there is nice, and named it, Altenburg, became part of the Holy Roman Empire, might established a Kingdom of Altenburg, intergrated from German culture but still have some Slavic culture around. Then, the Austrians now fully controlled the Kingdom of Altenburg, maybe through marriage or WAR! During that time, the Austrians really value Altenburg, a castle hill with two rivers made it a “fortress” against the Prussians or the Ottomans. At the same time, develop and expand the town during the many revolutions. Some Austrian noble family decided to build a palace at Altenburg later, Altenburg wanted some “Pan-Slavism” but Austria weren’t into it until the end of World War One when the Austrian-Hungarian Empire was dissolved and some Slavic nations like fellow Altenburg were free! Some Altenburgs slavic nationalists wanted to rename the city name to Altengrad because it sounded less GERMAN (Check out why Saint Petersburg is renamed to Petrograd in 1914), so the city council just rename it, Altengrad at the turn of the 1920s. Let’s so hope that the Nazi Germany wouldn’t rename Altengrad to Altenburg (since they really hate Slavic culture because they are ######).

Altengrad splits into two words; alten for the German word, Old and grad for the Slavic word, Castle or city, meaning "Old Castle", referring the Altengrad Castle inspired by Prague Castle built in the 9th century AD.
The valiant citizens of Altengrad resisted Nazi forces for 6 months until they were overwhelmed. Thereafter Altengrad was absorbed into German Bohemia and placed under the governance of Reinhardt Heydrich who indeed ordered the renaming of the city back to Altenburg. But before the order could be signed, Heydrich met his end at the hands of the resistance in Prague and all non-military operations in the area were temporarily suspended. This series is off to a great start! I love what you did with the castle- keeping it open and having it wrapped around the crest of the hill makes such a cool skyline. That cathedral fits wonderfully, too. Can’t wait to see where this series goes.
I was wary about clicking on this but I'm loving Altengrad! Remember to include various architectural style from different periods, numerous Castles and palaces from different periods and various churches and cathedrals from various periods and denominations. What cultures I'm central Europe have inhabited Altengrad? What was their involvement in the the Napoleonic wars, the first and second world wars, and the cold war? The two questions above would really affect Altengrad Architecture geography, history, and what areas were constructed in which periods. Don't forget your place various structures and ruins from antiquity and the early Medieval age. Maybe an ancient pagan temple, perhaps a roman border fort, old castles, etc. Maybe include old wells in older. Wards of the city. And fountains. And statues from various periods. Sorry, I'm gushing here from all the excitement of what's to come in Altengrad!

I've seen a couple others do this kind of concept but I think your talent for building is more impressive so I definitely interested in seeing how you tackle this... again looking forward to watching this series.
I like this idea a lot, and I was actually thinking to start at 1850. The reason is this: up to around many (Dutch) cities were forced to stay within the city boundaries. So they are supertied, with walls and such. Thinking about castles and such. Then at 1850 walls weren't necessary, so they removed many, but not all (highly depends upon the city). Between 1850 and 1960 basically all cities exploded in a few different stages. Also city design changes a lot. The type of industry and commercial buildings changes a lot. Around 1950 more and more cars were on the roads and something drastically had to be done. Different countries used different strategies to deal with that. And you see that reflected in the city design as well.

Interestingly enough in slovenian, despite being a south slavic language, Grad means castle. Anyways the culture and thus ethomology of Altengrad is going to be an interesting thing in the series.

Secondly I would recommend you ban all or some street parkings due to the fact that in that period, car was not considered to be a main mean of transportation, it was mostly used by wealthier people . Middle-class and lower-class people preferred these two means: just going by foot, or using streetcars. That could be a nice feature for your city. Thanks and hope to see a new video!!!!

Your baroque palace on the promontory would look great with long sloping or 'tiered' geometrical gardens descending towards the river, with a grand walkway in the middle leading up to the palace!

Tbh looks more like a star fort wall than a castle wall, though a star fort near a city eventually being converted into a seasonal palace for royalty would be unsurprising

Most of the buildings are actually from Saxony and Czech Republic. The church is Lady Mary of Tyn (Prague), the castel is Schloss Hartenstein in Torgau (Saxony) the baroque castle is Karlsruhe (Baden-Württemberg) and most of the smalller buildings are from Saxony and Thuringia - only some seem to be from Münster in Westfalia.
german here I can see how "alten" gets translated to old but "grad" isnt a word i know for castle. Maybe not my dialect(hochdeutsch) but if it literally transaltes to "Old Castle" shouldn't it be "Altenburg"?

I wish that it was still a monarchy, altengrad seems to have a royal feeling to it like Belgium or Sweden, that is a very big chance that they kept the monarchy after the war! Many countries actually did, Italy Spain Bulgaria Norway Sweden Belgium Luxembourg the Netherlands Romania and Bulgaria kept their monarchies! And Yugoslavs was a newly formed country that had a monarchy! Please make altengrad a monarchy!

The first cathedral model (the one with only one tower with green roof) you are using is the exact building from my city, Pilsen (Saint Bartholomew's cathedral)
A german city, with a big fort on a hill, next to where 2 big rivers meet sounds to me as the city of Koblenz in Germany. You could look it up on google earth to get some inspiration.

Grad means castle in a lot of slavic languages and since this is Central Europe, the city has probably a polish/czech/slovak/slovenian ethymology.

They’ve built castles, bridges, a cathedral, more houses, and fortified walls, influenced by Western European architecture. They created their own kingdom, the Kingdom of Altenburg, possibly being the “strategic” city with three kingdoms; Poland, Austria, and Hungary. The city flourished during the 14th century period when a Holy Roman Emperor chose Altenburg the imperial city thus transforming it to the third biggest cities in Europe. In the 16th century, Altenburg was now dominantly ruled by Habsburg rulers, ruling multiple times in Austria, Hungary, Croatia, and the Holy Roman Empire. The 16th century was a period of great times for Altenburg thanks to the Habsburgs, its the center of European culture and science. Following the 17th century, it really was the period of bad times. Then, the 18th century brought back the light of Altenburg, the city is now filled with palaces, gardens, beautiful arts, and great music. However, the 18th century was also a period of revolutions. The ethnic people and culture of Altenburg were brutally suppressed against the Germanic people and culture. An “Altenic” National Revival gained popularity during the 1850s, many people wanted to revive the cultural identity of the “Altenic”, it made it a success in 1918 when the Austrian-Hungarian Empire is dissolved and the creation of a small republic for the people of Altenburg was possible.
Prior to its creation, the city of Altenburg was chosen as the capital of the new republic. Many nationalists wanted to rename the city name of Altenburg to AltenGRAD, being the current name “too German”, many city councils agreed. To the 1920s onwards, Altengrad, the city of too many spires, will continue.
Many of these are purely based on Prague.

Your baroque palace on the promontory would look great with long sloping or 'tiered' geometrical gardens descending towards the river, with a grand walkway in the middle leading up to the palace!

This is gonna be a good series i can feel it! But i feel the cathedral sticks out a bit... the textures on it are also not the best. Maybe you could fine a better one. Other than that... great job on the first episode!

Tbh looks more like a star fort wall than a castle wall, though a star fort near a city eventually being converted into a seasonal palace for royalty would be unsurprising

@@sam7576 I agree with you. The dutch provinces of Overijssel, Gelderland and Limburg, the Northern part of Belgium (Flanders), and Alssace-Lorraine are also fulfilled with Castles
Most of the buildings are actually from Saxony and Czech Republic. The church is Lady Mary of Tyn (Prague), the castel is Schloss Hartenstein in Torgau (Saxony) the baroque castle is Karlsruhe (Baden-Württemberg) and most of the smalller buildings are from Saxony and Thuringia - only some seem to be from Münster in Westfalia.
It actually reminds me of Westfalia (Weser Renaissance).
EDIT: As Marcus Andreas said, Münster is an inspiration. But I also thought of Paderborn.

I can see how "alten" gets translated to old but "grad" isnt a word i know for castle. Maybe not my dialect(hochdeutsch) but if it literally transaltes to "Old Castle" shouldn't it be "Altenburg"?

I wish that it was still a monarchy, altengrad seems to have a royal feeling to it like Belgium or Sweden, that is a very big chance that they kept the monarchy after the war! Many countries actually did, Italy Spain Bulgaria Norway Sweden Belgium Luxembourg the Netherlands Romania and Bulgaria kept their monarchies! And Yugoslavs was a newly formed country that had a monarchy! Please make altengrad a monarchy!

Fun fact: Rivers don't usually split, they "unite". Thus, when two rivers form a new, "united" river, the new river is much bigger than the two original rivers.

The first cathedral model (the one with only one tower with green roof) you are using is the exact building from my city, Pilsen (Saint Bartholomew's cathedral)

A german city, with a big fort on a hill, next to where 2 big rivers meet sounds to me as the city of Koblenz in Germany. You could look it up on google earth to get some inspiration.
