    Love how Natalie's training is being shared. Honest struggles and success.....nicely done, both.

    For me it's a lot of fun to watch Dad and daughter because there's much more of a bond. Neil is clearly a loving and dedicated father, Natalie is a great student that adds a bit of fun to the videos. Pedagogy at its finest!

    Everyone who carries should practice some one handed shooting, with both hands. Plenty of good pointers in this video.

    I am impressed with the Body Analysis of this team. Different Strokes for Different Folks...
    It's a good standard for the teacher to understand the student... she or he might be an old timer and a bit light... or just a lighter person.
    It's so nice to see a teacher show the properties with examples. I learned a lot! Thanks!

    At 6:47 my PX4 does the same thing. If not racked with authority, the rail sometimes sticks with a new mag. Any other PX4 owners see the same?

      Rack the slide to the back and let it go! The recoil spring is doind the rest. She was riding the slide and FTF occurred.

      @@orhanabd1724. Keep moving hand to the rear after releasing the slide.

    It’s like your in my head! I was just trying to figure this out for myself. Great video. Can’t wait to try these techniques.

    To me strong foot forward with weight produced the least recoil movement for her.

    Are there any considerations when drawing one handed appendix carry?

    • @ASPextra
      @ASPextra  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, there are. Nothing major, but that might be worth making a video on.

    I'm one hand because I had a bad stroke in '99 and I can't use my right arm.

      @@ASPextra I've been training in the house with an empty weapon and chamber a round (snap caps) with my left hand and clear the chamber.

    The cant is more about bringing better physiology to bear on the recoil problem. It allows the shooter to engage the shoulder and chest muscles, just like many hands make light work, more muscle and bone = more control = less wobble = less recoil interference with follow on shots.

    • @ASPextra
      @ASPextra  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hear you and I have seen that argument, but I am not sure it's true.

    • @robertsmith1310

      @@ASPextra That is a very fair statement, and I was in the same boat many years ago when it was first presented to me. In trying both in numerous competitive spheres, IPSC, IDPA, NRA Action Pistol, and Steel Challenge, I came to the conclusion that a slight cant of the firing hand made a big difference for me. (I am also always learning so I am open to other new/better ideas and believe that what works for one person is not a universal truth. One way to see what's best for yourself might be to set some aggressive par times and distances add movement and off/weak-hand to push yourself within your limits and see what you can do with either technique speed and accuracy-wise. For me personally the slightly canted hold is demonstrably faster and more accurate than the straight up and down grip and it shows in the accuracy and speed I can achieve with each. Anecdotally speaking, for me, it just feels like a more capable position from which to shoot. Thanks for sharing all of these great videos and food for thought I look forward to the next one.

    Should you train left and right-handed just in case you take a round in your dominate hand? Maybe a mag or 2 each trip to the range.....or if you have the mantis at home from time to time?

    • @ASPextra

      Training some cross side isn’t bad at all.

    Good analysis of recoil but that is not the only thing to consider. I am cross eye dominant. Shooting two handed i can move the pistol in front of my dominant eye like John recommended in another video. Primary hand only does not work as well and is very awkward to move the gun over. This causes terrible recoil control. Canting the gun.helps bring the sights or dot in line with my dominant eye with decent recoil control. For support hand I then shoot with the gun straight up. This is opposite of what non-cross eye dominant shooters often do. Please do another video of this with range monkey shooting support hand only. She may be more comfortable canting the gun more for that.

    • @neilweidner7037
      @neilweidner7037 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, there is so much nuance to shooting one handed that we couldn’t cover it all without making the video SO long! I also have cross eye dominance so I get what your saying!

    • @ASPextra
      @ASPextra  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I think that is actually a pretty minor number of people who have that kind of issue. :)

    Using a sigp365 I tilt the weapon to shoot straight. A g19 and lcp are held vertically. It’s just the way the grip feels natural

    What are the mechanics like if you turn your body almost completely sideways, the way Olympic pistol shooters do? ( I realize they use small caliber single-shot specialized pistols ).

    • @ASPextra
      @ASPextra  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That bullseye technique doesn't really work in defensive shooting because it positions you awkwardly for mobility, which is totally unnecessary in Olympic shooting but absolutely critical in defensive pistol craft.
