It's a rather condescending if not somewhat insulting interview. The host keeps talking about how "lucky" Julia Duffy was to be in the show, as if her ability had nothing to do with it. Julia may have been 'lucky' to have received the opportunity and the role in such a popular show, but she obviously had the comedic ability, and she made the role her own. No one else could have been the Stephanie we know and love and enjoy.
@slkinia: Agreed! Plus she ( the interviewer ) got names wrong, and even the title of the show wrong - it's "Newhart," NOT "The Bob Newhart Show" ( which was Bob Newhart's earlier, from the 1970s, show. )
Yeah, especially since they fired their first supporting actress for Julia. Julia was hand-picked to be in this show based on them liking her performance. Not much luck involved.

@@paleo704 You can say that if you want to strip the word "lucky" of all its meaning, so as to make it into a commonplace, as in "we're all lucky to be alive in this age of technology."
But regarding the Newhart cast and program, they were a team that clicked, had good writers, and an extraordinarily talented and capable cast that captivated their audience. They succeeded because they could deliver, not because of some blind happenstance.
She is the most beautiful actress ever.

Watched an episode of Newhart today. Love the actors and their comedy timing is spectacular.
Julia Duffy was my first crush as a kid growing up in the 80's, I hardly ever knew what was going on during Newhart but boy, I remember being glued to the couch when her face hit the screen lol. She was a great actress who imo deserved a lot more recognition than what she received over her career.

She was hilarious is Wizards and Warriors and whenever I saw her on Newhart I wanted to keep watching, but no one in my family watched that show.

She was one of the pretty girls who could do comedy. Barbara Eden was too. Lucille Ball. Julia Duffy was a very good actress. Surprised she never won an Emmy for Stephanie.
She was nominated for an Emmy seven times for this role, but no win. She totally got robbed.
@@nuckinfuts7610 Sometimes when you play an over-the-top character who is also unpleasant at times it hurts your chances. She was a wonderful actress. I remember her acting on "The Doctors."
She played the part to a tee. She does kind of remind me of Barbara Eden now that you mention it.

The airheaded interviewer keeps calling it "The Bob Newhart Show," which was canceled about 6 years before this interview, and which Julia Duffy never appeared on.

There was a lot of room for growth with the character of Stephanie. Kirk character hit a dead end even though I thought he was hysterical. The show need to let him leave to move on and survive. I did love him with Leslie though for the awesome time it lasted.
Season two is kind of a weird season because Kirk no longer had Leslie to chase after, and Stephanie (except for a couple episodes where he guest starred), didn't have Michael around.
@@adamhauck6058 I actually liked Stephanie without Michael.
I hate the Kirk character and Leslie. Leslie was a good actor but didn't really like her part and Kirk just sucked at acting and wasn't really funny much because he just wasn't convincing and had terrible timing. Just seemed like he was reading a script a lot of times to me.
That was due to bad writing. Had they kept the same writers from Chicago, it would have been different.

@Diane Newman Leslie. Jennifer Holmes. She was replaced by Julia because they thought Julia brought more and added to the show more. I liked Jennifer Holmes too. And the episodes with Kirk Devane and Leslie very much. I thought they were very well written and funny.

She is the embodiment of what a lady should be, unfortunately today all etiquette & social graces are gone, behaving like thugs, just a bunch of Ronda Roussey's. Makes me sick.

It’s 2021 and laughing so hard at Newhart! But post Kirk. That character’s only redeeming quality was serving as a bad example.
He is the worst actor ever. I never got how he wasn't canned sooner. lol

She was a regular customer at the Gelson's I worked at years ago in Westlake. NOT NICE!!!

She is so cute & snotty in the show I just love her! She also looks so young. She is skilled not lucky! Very petite & has been acting for a long time before Newhart! BTW annoying woman !
