I just got my CAME-TV steadicam , not with the aluminum case, i love it . Its a new challenge , and it will take some practice , but thanks for reviewing man great videos.
Good day Tom, I have the same rig. What I did was replace the foam to 1" green density foam from the craft store. traced the pattern from the current foam. which I pulled from the inner vest. Its a little tricky but I had to turn it inside out and start from the shoulders carefully feeding it in as I an pulling the vest right side in. Just a tip, and to keep the buckles from moving along with the vest shoulder area, ribs, and waist I use a one inch Velcro to wrap and hold them from moving at each clip.enjoy your tutorials. thanks for putting them up!!!Shawn.
I did something similar. Instead of replacing the foam, tho, I just doubled it by cutting another piece the same size and hot-glueing the two together.
very interesting! came here after watching behind the scenes of Aladdin 2019 (that scene when Princess Jasmine singing 'spechless') i was amazed the cameraman holding such a heavy rig so smoothly. $100k system is peanuts considering the movie already crossed $600mil now.
Tom, at 8:37 you were preparing to install the supplied Came-TV V-mount battery plate, but then you ended up using a LanParte plate instead. What was wrong with the Came-TV plate? Thanks
thanks for this overview, really good. Dynamic balance caused me a lot of trouble, but I found a really cool gadget that helps me balancing my unit in under 1 minute!!!
How do you rate it? I’m on the fence about it for my zcam and vazen rig. It weighs 7kg. Do you get back pain from it? I’ve got a crane 3s gimbal but selling it as when I load that up it’s just unusable with the strain. You get shakes.
At 22:58 - 23:09, when you pull the camera up, and push it down. Does it want to spring back to the middle position, or does it stay where you put it when you release your hands? Thank you for the video!!!
It wants to come back to where you originally have it set. When you push down you're pushing against the arm's springs and when you pull up you're pulling against them.
Great video Tom. I've been watching your channel for a long time now. I've been using the glidecam hd-2000 for a while now. First with DSLR's and now I've been shooting with the FS700. The reason I'm looking at this steadicam/vest combo is because the weight of the FS700 on the glidecam really destroys my arm. It takes me a few days to recover afterwards. Does this vest outperform the glidecam series in your opinion? And is it possible to use the glider without the vest if I wanted to?
I have mixed feelings about my CAME-TV rig. The vest had rivets popping off (held padding to the frame), and the case is made from cheap particle board. CAME-TV is very responsive to my problems, but there are obviously some quality problems. The hard parts, anything made from metal or carbon fiber, are pretty nice though.
Great stuff! For 900 that looks like a great deal. You should do more video camera reviews! There are some great cameras coming out like the Black Magic with the "10 screen. *drool*
Great review/tutorial Tom! Just wanted to ask you what lens (or 35mm equvalent to the lens) and aperture did use for the shots at 22:30 they look really cinematic with that DOF. Thanks
ok I hear the heavy breathing. How much of a strain was that on your back?? I plan to buy that system and mount about 20 LBS on it. Also why did you swap the V-mount adapter that Came has supplied for the Lanparte one you installed? Lastly I want to use a caged DSLR from Nikon. Are there any power cable adapters that you know of that can power up a D3s from a Vmount battery system? I'm having a heck of a time finding something to use to be quite honest.. Great guide/tutorial from you as always.
Yes achieving dynamic balance is easy (same as static balance) because the bottom rails that you can attach your monitor/battery or counter weights can be independently adjusted up or down or side to side.
brother...please post a total review and instraction for came tv 32inch crane system. .we are excited for that and i really want to buy one..please brother. .waiting for your reply. .
Yes, I feel I have a more natural control over camera movement with steadicam than I do with a gimbal being controlled by electronics. That being said tho, there are times when a gimbal is best and times when a steadicam works best....

Hi Tom! Love your videos. Just subscribed! Question. Would you recommend this system for a Blackmagic cinema camera, or is the vest and arm totally necessary? I don't yet have a monitor but I'm having such a hard time finding a great handheld option. To me, this seems to be the best option, and I'm willing to stretch my budget just a bit. I was considering a shoulder rig, but it seems the steadicams can achieve easier, more fluid movements. I would love to hear your thoughts on going handheld for the Blackmagic. Thanks!
Yup for the Blackmagic 4k or Cinema Cameras I would get it. Those cameras with all the extras that are needed are also heavy and hard to balance on handheld stabilizers.
Is the arm&vest setup primarily for ease of extended use? Is there a noticeable difference to just using the stabilizer by hand with a lighter setup and do you have any comparison videos?
Hey Tom Antos I own a 5D Mark 3 with a shoulder rig. Should I get this steadicam (came-tv) or is there other companies out there? What would you recommend? Also how much did it cost for this steadicam in your video?
Hey Tom, I'm actually thinking about purchasing this steadicam rig. Its going to be my first investment towards stabilization, and I just wanted to know if your opinion has changed any. Have you experienced any problems lately, or anything else. I plan purchase it on Monday, and I just want to make sure its worth it, and theres no real major problems. So any input will help. Thanks again, and excellent video.
Hi Tom, I have really developed a passion for the art of Steadicam. If Im looking to get work for live events such as sports, concerts and broadcasting as a Steadicam operator, how many batteries do professional operators own themselves that are not supplied by the companies producing these projects. Right now the only batteries I have are three BP-900 series that are used to power my jobs xf100 cameras. I live in a small town and before I move to pursue more work as a Steadicam Op' I want to make sure I have all the essential gear to be hired as a professional Steadicam operator. I am considering getting either an Anton Bauer battery or these Comer 160wh Batteries from Came TV. Hey Tom, thanks for sharing this video! I'm a beginning film writer/maker and I had a question for you about this Steadicam. Concerning the cost of this device, are you saying I can get everything I see in this video (minus the red camera and accessories) for under $900? And will this particular Steadicam work good with the Panasonic GH4 camera? If so, where can I purchase this unit at such a great price?
Thanks for your reply matty9460! 👍 Connected to my GH4 is a Rokinon 35mm Cine lens which adds an additional few pounds to it with a filter. I'm still actually searching for a steadycam suit that can work good for this camera though. I have mini stabilizers that work well, but still interested in getting the suit. Hello Tom, thank you for your video:-) Can you tell me your opinion about this and original rig from Glidecam company (x10 arm and Devin graham steadicam for example) If you have a experience with? The original Glidecam is much more expensive, so I would like to know your opinion about this rig vs Glidecam rig, the quality, operation, atc... I will be glad for your opinion. Thanks a lot.

Hey, +EnJ Films lol I was totally wrong. The light stand had a plastic tip on the top of it, its tiny but if you take it off, it actually works perfectly. It supports the weight very well too, I would suggest buying it if you have the steadicam
Do you think mounting a Ronin on a Steadicam is a good idea? Coming from a guy who owned a Ronin first and wants to rest the weight of the system while in use.
Hi Tom, do you think that is the best solution for my first steadicam? I dont have experience with it and before I shot only with DSLRs from hands and tripods, but now I bought Blackmagic Production camera and with rig will be pretty heavy for handheld shooting. And looks like that wireless follow focus is necessary. So what will you recommend me as beginer "professional"? Thanks.
It's a great rig for the Blackmagic 4K camera and Cinema Camera... but if you've never used a pro setup like this it might take a while to learn everything. If you're not afraid of the learning curve and spending the $$$ then I would do it.
Thank you Tom, i apreciate what you do, i have a P2 i mean Panasonic HPX,250, i would like to by Gildecam HD 4000 kit stailiser systeme in Band H cost 1539 dollars, you think it enough? cause they is Meany product and name differente, thanks brother.
Definitely, the only load problem I've had with this steadicam is using a camera that's too light (a DSLR). I feel this is best with at least a 10-12 pound camera rig.
Hey I'm interesseted in purchasing this stabilizer. Is there someone that can share his experience and impressions about it with me? Should I buy the package with the case or without?
Yes it's been confirmed. It's Rick... he has survived the zombie apocalypse to come and join the filmmaking industry. But can he survive the indie filmmaker apocalypse?
I recently used this rig *by accident* on a shoot in the UK, I would strongly recommend NOT buying this brand. I myself run a Flyer rig, designed by Steadicam themselves. There are cheaper alternatives out there (like CAME), but in all honesty, you get what you pay for. The build quality of this rig isn't particularly great. I was flying a fully accessorized FS700 with focus systems too, and I have to say.. it was the most uncomfortable vest design I've ever used. I actually ended up with bruising from the lower vest plate. The Arm is not isostatic, its just built with a spring.. so it doesn't absorb the shock very well. Also, there is no boom in the arm either.. so you're pretty stuck with that one position. Finally, the gymbal was very stiff. I actually ended up using some oil in order to lubricate the gymbal, it was that bad. I usually go by the saying of "buy cheap, buy twice" You won't have a very successful career using cheap tat like that. It doesn't look like there is any design for comfort or support either, just simply cheap materials for a cheaper sale.
I gotta say I completely disagree. This unit is WELL MADE and is absolutely wonderful. Either you didn't balance it right, or you just clearly didn't know how to properly use it. It is NOT cheap I assure you basically everything is either high grade solid steel or sturdy carbon fiber. I highly recommend this unit, but be careful, balancing is very tricky and the mounting plate is comes with only works with light stands not c stands.
Have to agree in almost every point with Thompson - if you dont have or money - go for it. Its not total crap. But it isnt good either. Get a Pilot or Flyer....
No I didn't. I talk about the dynamic balance at 18:26 Plus I talk about it in my Ultimate Steadicam Tutorial. I can always go more in depth here but then the video would be an hour long instead of 30 min.
Typically you'd want those connection on the stage on the back, not the front. Running with these rigs is a lot about technique and practice. Cinema Products, which first produced the Steadicam, did an instructional video with Garnett Brown, the inventor of the Steadicam which is an excellent resource if you can find it. I couldn't on youtube but the linked video is another I used years ago. I've used many stabilizers over the years. Steadicam and other brands. This seems like a decent rig, especially for the price. th-cam.com/video/5t5JsvKZPTQ/w-d-xo.html
ptennisproductions Ive fallen before and never broke my camera or steadicam. I fall face first and save my camera gear from taking the hard hit. I can always heal my face but replacing the camera gear is expensive. Really don't know what else to tell you. In all my years of work on films Ive never seen a steadicam operator fall so hard that the camera gear was broken.
Do not buy this Rig from Came Tv. I bought one and after 3 times using it the top plate does not lock any more. The camera will just slide off or loos its setting/balance. I have requested a Free replacement for the top part and i was told that "You need to replace new QR plate it has been wearing out after a long term use." and Pay for it. Seriously do not bother. Its either bad design or bad materials of both.
I guess the question I have is why here there so little development for Nikon DSLRs. I see time and time again where these companies supply things like dead batteries for Canon , but seem oblivious to adding Nikon or Sony as well as other manufactured counterparts to these packages? I have Nikon gear and the lack of support can make you walk right past companies that don't support me or my choice of gear. I'm still looking for a dead battery that will work in a Lanparte power distro block with a Nikon D3, and no such animal exists now? Yeah I know its an older DSLR but even so it shouldn't be so hard to find a solution. I'm not dumping my glass just to do video. I'm a stills photographer that is looking into video as additional service to my base. Anyone out here know of anything that works with this combo, short of me going to look at a D750 series, 800/850, D4, D5 or setting up my Sony Z7u 7?
I bought one of these 2 years ago, terrible build quality and the set screws that attached the top to the rest of the sled came stripped. things come loose and you will spend most of the shoot rebalancing this piece, the vest is made for someone really large as I am 5'10 185lbs and it is almost impossible to get tight. The arm's adjustment pegs are terrible and dont seem to do anything, you get what you pay for.
+Darragh Sinnott Shure there is differences. You´re comparing a Fiat Panda with a Rolls Royce. You get a long way for 1.000 bugs in a Panda, and not very long in a RR for a 1000 bugs. As a hobbyist thats a good way to learn a lot - and not spending 15.000 or more.

Nice vidéo .
Which one do you prefer, wireless follow focus came-tv or Wondlan?
Thank you Tom, i apreciate what you do, i have a P2 i mean Panasonic HPX,250, i would like to by Gildecam HD 4000 kit stailiser systeme in Band H cost 1539 dollars, you think it enough? cause they is Meany product and name differente, thanks brother.
Does it have hd-sdi ? if yes does it works properly ?
Ciao. ..come va questa steadycam? ho sentito che da problemi!
can i mount ReD Dragon with matty and battries...will arm take the load
Definitely, the only load problem I've had with this steadicam is using a camera that's too light (a DSLR). I feel this is best with at least a 10-12 pound camera rig.
thanks for your cource
Would an FS7 with an extension unit + Vlock battery, and the usual matte box, follow focus etc fly on this alright? Or is that pushing it?
what shoulderrig is that brand and stuff
Hey I'm interesseted in purchasing this stabilizer. Is there someone that can share his experience and impressions about it with me?
Should I buy the package with the case or without?
can the arm be placed on the left side?
yes it can
This guy looks like Rick from the walking dead :D
I was wondering why he looked so familiar lol he really does
Too familiar hehe so wierd though.
Yes it's been confirmed. It's Rick... he has survived the zombie apocalypse to come and join the filmmaking industry. But can he survive the indie filmmaker apocalypse?
Hahaha i recognize him too
The dog is so cute
That's great
I recently used this rig *by accident* on a shoot in the UK, I would strongly recommend NOT buying this brand.
It doesn't look like there is any design for comfort or support either, just simply cheap materials for a cheaper sale.
weren't the early g-series arms just single spring designs? isnt the iso-elastic system a fairly recent addition?
I gotta say I completely disagree. This unit is WELL MADE and is absolutely wonderful. Either you didn't balance it right, or you just clearly didn't know how to properly use it. It is NOT cheap I assure you basically everything is either high grade solid steel or sturdy carbon fiber. I highly recommend this unit, but be careful, balancing is very tricky and the mounting plate is comes with only works with light stands not c stands.
The plate most definitely works on c-stands.
Have to agree in almost every point with Thompson - if you dont have or money - go for it. Its not total crap. But it isnt good either. Get a Pilot or Flyer....
can I just buy the vest and arm?
Yes you can. The same company sells each part separately. Check out their website.
thx :)
Tom Antos
I buy the flycam cf5 and I wish now to buy the vest and arm of cam-TV is it compatible?
Sorry for my bad English I'm Portuguese:)
u forgot dynamic balancing the most important part !! see magnunimus media tutorial !!
No I didn't. I talk about the dynamic balance at 18:26
Plus I talk about it in my Ultimate Steadicam Tutorial. I can always go more in depth here but then the video would be an hour long instead of 30 min.
Actually no you didnt talk about dynamic balance
younes look what i found hahah ... just shut up lol
so how much was that vest
+ItZGiovi thx not bad price. now is that the whole Steadicam?
+NVA Film yes sir
thx
Typically you'd want those connection on the stage on the back, not the front. Running with these rigs is a lot about technique and practice. Cinema Products, which first produced the Steadicam, did an instructional video with Garnett Brown, the inventor of the Steadicam which is an excellent resource if you can find it. I couldn't on youtube but the linked video is another I used years ago. I've used many stabilizers over the years. Steadicam and other brands. This seems like a decent rig, especially for the price.
th-cam.com/video/5t5JsvKZPTQ/w-d-xo.html
can you use it with gh4
Yes, but seems to work best with heavier cameras. There are probably much better steadicams for DSLR's....
16:28 that's what she said
.....
how much is it
Beautiful people! Where is?
what happens if you fall over?
You get up and keep going.
Tom Antos and replace all broken accessories I own a varizoom aviator mx-ab
Tom Antos best answer ever
ptennisproductions Ive fallen before and never broke my camera or steadicam. I fall face first and save my camera gear from taking the hard hit. I can always heal my face but replacing the camera gear is expensive. Really don't know what else to tell you. In all my years of work on films Ive never seen a steadicam operator fall so hard that the camera gear was broken.
Paul Linsley;-)
No offense Tom...but your brother didn't do a good job keeping your subject in focus
that drop test was actually exactly 1 second
Destroys a $70,000. rig by tripping over a ten dollar dog.
The dog is priceless. The rig can be destroyed and replaced but NOT the dog.
Thats a pretty cute pup, kinda low balled his value.
oh boy.... well that was interesting
Why is the video footage so Green!?
Paul Milde cuz the trees and grass are green on this planet
Cannabis propaganda :P
Hello, my brother and magnificence video and I liked the photographer.

Dobre
Rick?
What are you talking about?
