We used to have a different method to find similar people to the post or website you were on; webrings. A webring was a list of affiliates you could browse from the original website, that had something in common with the original site. Sometimes you just cycled through them without knowing what you got, and other times they had a list where you could see what they were with a brief description. If we're going to bring back art blogs, bringing back web rings or affiliates (and by that I mean fellow artists not just sponsored affiliates!) might be the way to go!
just went down a rabbit hole looking into this!! I remember using webrings or at least a version of it on deviantArt! I didn't know they had a specific name haha. webrings / affiliates are a great idea! :)
Social media is definitely super frustrating nowadays. I'm searching for a replacement too. I remember years ago I used to have a blog (as a writer) through wordpress and it was so much fun because I connected with so many other authors and we all ended up finding each other through one another's blogs. But something happened, idk what, and suddenly that community died out and it was no longer easy to connect like that anymore. I would love to have that sort of connection with artist blogs though 🤩
yeahhh I think blogs vanished BECAUSE of social media. but now that social media is the way that it is,i think bringing back blogs of all kinds would definitely be a great way to connect with other creatives!!! You should dive back in!!!!
OMG this is the exact final push I needed to start figuring out a more grassroots way of sharing my work. I've been holding out on posting my more recent work on instagram because it just didn't sit right with me. Funny enough, when I shared this sentiment with a friend, he suggested a similar approach and I was like "hmm" but couldn't conceptualize it. Now I can thanks to your video! Doing this feels way better than just leaving Instagram for another similar social media site. Plus I can exploit instagram to promote my new grassroots method of sharing content without feeding it my precious art heh heh heh now I gotta muster up the motivation to actually do this...
aw I’m so glad to hear that!! 😊 setting up a blog/site is definitely an undertaking, but soooo worth it in the end. wishing you all the best with it!!!🫶🏽
@@niadragon thank you!! what I want for 2025 is to have a more positive relationship with the internet for the sake of my withering attention span and my mental health which seems like a herculean task but communities like these remind me that it's possible!
i love this idea, it reminds me of being a teen on tumblr back in the day (but without being attached to other platforms)
