    Latte Dock is so awesome. It can be jank, but the customization are amazing. And I consider it necessity until we have Drag Panel to Drag Window in native KDE panel. Plus, all the other stuff psifidotos make like the Window Title-Button-Appmenu combo... Garuda introducing me to these meant that I just can't go back anymore to not using them man.

    @Michael Tunnell - TuxDigital
    I just want to let you know that in my experience, when I've done a lot of playing with alternative app menus, or especially deleting and then recreating a panel, losing super key functionality has been inevitable. In these cases, even having alt+F1 set has not recovered that function. I've been able to recover it using a small terminal app called ksuperkey running on startup. On a friend's system, this caused it to open only when the super key was held, and would close on release (he's running Garuda which uses fish, maybe it handles the application differently, and that's why but I don't know) so for him I just set it to run, and, immediately kill ksuperkey afterward and it runs perfectly regardless of changes. I hope this will help anyone who's lost their super key functionality.

    I'd like to create separate desktops for different purposes. So, I could have one desktop for system files, the terminal, CPU stats etc. Have all of those apps pinned to the taskbar on desktop #1. Then have desktop #2 with only web browsers pinned to the task bar and excluding any of the apps on desktop #1. Ever time I try KDE I end up messing up my panel, at the start of this video I had 5 Brave icons and 2 settings icons but the end of it I somehow removed my panel completely and I tried to add it back now just have a blank panel! I don't know if I'm dumb or KDE just isn't designed well. I find this stuff much easier to do in Gnome and Xfce.

    • @michael_tunnell
      @michael_tunnell  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      KDE Plasma gives much more control to the user vs GNOME which gives none by default and makes you jump through hoops to add extensions. This is a pro and a con for both DEs. If you right click the desktop you can add a panel back fairly easily and also choose Default Panel to get the panel back with default widgets. As for the changes being wonky, I suggest doing the actions a bit slower because going fast might result in some unintended elements being clicked. Please try that and let me know.

    What's really confusing is, that there is an option for the apps in the start menu: "add to panel" and "pin to task-manager". Why? If you say "add to panel" it puts the icons on the left and "pin to task-manager" puts them on the right. That's kind of stupid. An app is not a widget and you can even have two icons in the task bar for the same app.

    • @michael_tunnell
      @michael_tunnell  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are used for slightly different purposes because if you add to panel then it makes it a widget vs pinning it to the task bar. I agree it is a bit confusing to have these kinds of options but it's more about flexibility of plasma but sure there are some things that might feel a bit unnecessary

      That is unfortunate to happen since I made that video but now it’s much less important because normal panels can be used as docks in KDE Plasma 6 😎👍

      This is inaccurate. Maybe TH-cam is hiding the comments for some reason but nothing on my end is causing it

      @@michael_tunnell I sent you my questions on twitter today. Please help me by answering them because searching files on Linux is so slow compared to my experience on Win 10.

      @@encapsulatio answered on Twitter and also for those reading here . . . I'll paste the answer here too.
      use KDE's file searching app called KFind. It is Awesome! It is very fast and also very customizable to do a wide variety of search types.
      apps.kde.org/kfind/ and there's a flatpak for it too.
