I have bought a clump of bucephalandra mini hades..I believe it is grown emersed as all the leaves have melted and nothing is left..now I can only see the rhizome! Do you know like how much does it take to grow back the leaves...?
*Hello all. Bucephalandra (Boo-ché Pha-laan-draa) is native to Borneo, Indonesia. As Indonesians, we usually call it like the writing, Buce (Boo-Chê, where ê is "a weak ê", is read like the word "Ba(chê)lor"), some call it Bucé (Boo-Ché, where é is read like the word "café"). This plant likes cool temperatures (maximum 28 Celsius), clear water and moderate light. If that all three conditions are not fulfilled then the plant will melt. Very slow growth, one leaf every 2-3 weeks. Bucé are very sensitive if they have just been moved, if those three conditions have been met, but the plants are still melting, don't throw them away, they are adapting to new water and a new environment. Wait a few days then the new leaves will start growing again. To maintain its sustainability, this plant has been protected and may not be taken from its native nature in Borneo since several years ago. Everything sold here is from the cultivation of farmers. Very beautiful plant*
You are my fave fish nerd!!!! You always go straight to the point and give tons of info in short amount of time. Thank you for always being so helpful.
This is one of my favorite aquatic plants. Im so thankful that i could get it so cheap here in Indonesia because it is where they originally come from. You could get it from the farms that sell them through local online marketplaces.
Yes, the price would be around 4 USD for a 4x6 inch beautiful flourishing clump if you get it directly from aquatic plant farmers. What is the price at your local seller?
Bucephalandra is very impressively interesting plant I love. Planting it above water is also nice. I'm growing them in my paludarium. They are about to bloom. Deeply focusable plant!
Really nice plant to have, for its ease of care and hardiness. And I think the color of the leaves, dark green, matches very well with black lava rocks. I just put one into my aquarium and my kuhli loach sneaked up next to the roots while I was wedging the roots between rocks. 😅
My favorite plant in the hobby but it has also been my most sensitive at keeping that plant lol wont lie it's been a rough road but it's coming in nicely now :)
Cool and very informative video. Buce is still very expensive where i'm from up to 3 x more than other plants. I like growing them immersed in the tank attached to wood, seems to grow faster not by much.
Great informative video, I'm in Melbourne Australia and purchased some today from a hobbyist quite expensive but well worth it, mine had 2 flowers on it so I'm wrapped :)
A Gamer's Wife oh and I wanted to mention since you said buce was kinda expensive. There is a guy that sells buce for pretty cheap, he’s barely started selling some so he has just one or two types but check him out. Jacob’s aquarium 🙂
Adrian Castillo Holy cow, he does sell them cheap! I wonder how many leaves each plant comes with. I may have to try him out next time; thanks for the recommendation!
Saw some at my local pet store for cheap, but the container water it was in looked pretty dirty and the plant was covered in algae. Theoretically, a hydrogen peroxide bath would cure this right?
Patients. Also, of you are doing a low tech walstadt tank, it seems to work well. Mine is thriving in this environment. So far no melt back, and 3 weeks in.
New question for old video… I have a piece of driftwood that extends above the waterline. Does anyone know if I can put this on the emergent hardscape do make the driftwood look like it’s sprouting?
I haven't had any luck growing it in the tank. It gets covered with alge then starts to melt. So I divided it in two and I'm growing them in my terrarium. They aree both strating to bloom now. I'll try to grow them submersed again after i have a few more.

I know this is a 2 year old post but in case anyone runs across this with the same question... Leave it in your tank. They will melt, especially if it was a tissue culture but eventually they will start to grow back unless the rhizome is completely dead.
@@swirvinbirds1971 I appreciate the reply. That one never came back. I do have some nice Buce growing now. I got replacement plants and was able to get those to grow back after the melt.
I understand that Buce likes to have flowing water, but how does that work in regards to a betta tank (bettas hate strong flowing currents in their tank usually, as it tires them out/stresses them out) - is fast-flowing water a MUST-HAVE, absolutely required - for buce plants, or can they adapt to life in slower-flow/calmer betta tank waters and still do well?

Great vid! I recently got my self a bucephalandra (wavey green) and its shooting up flowers everywhere! I scoured the internet on any information about whether to cut the flowers or not, and there was _nothing_ on the topic. I think most people are super amazed that the buce flowers at all, so they usually leave the flower alone until the petals fall off and then they snip off the flower stem from the base.
