Question: We want to convert our walk in cooler into a freezer. Cost is $10k. The bids are about the same. If I get this approved by the board I want to go with the company we have used for 5 years. Our board president wants to bring in another company. I feel the president is overstepping his boundaries here. What is your opinion? Also what do you base that opinion on?

My first question is, does your org have a purchasing/vendor policy? If not, I recommend you put one in place -- that will outline the exact rules you need to follow (how many minimum bids to accept; stipulations around conflicts of interest and use of past vendors, etc.) in order to do this kind of thing, so that the Board/anyone else would have to follow that procedure first.
