I wandered the Australian outback 1982 in my old Holden V8 panel van, working in the construction game. This track was on a DEVO album, stuck in my cars tape player, and played over again for 10 months before the impact of hitting a kangaroo dislodged it from the cars cassette player. Summer heat, beer, coppers, km after km of travelling chasing a $$ stopping in pubs for a few weeks, a wonderful time in my life as a young man. Now 63 and still listening to DEVO, who would have thought ?
That's it Joe The real genuine artist doesn't need to be under highlights everytime, it's always renewing itself but its criativity is timeless. "Artists" nowdays will never left legancy like Devo and other bands did.
Once more thing: there are many artists can't go on without drugs to pump up in stage and acheive success, but of course it isn't everlasting. That's why Devo across time, even 'they're old man, but they're still on it. Healthy life, no drugs and get good culture make difference! My prayers for Casale family!
@@mirianmcs While I can kinda see what you're saying, to say Devo never did drugs is far from the truth. They were doing really heavy drugs in the late 80s. Of course, they're all clean now, but they're far from innocent.
I met Bob2 a couple times and found him to be a most friendly and genuine guy. When he struck the opening chords of "my song" I was in heaven, mesmerised by the hypnotic quality of this song. Bob2 left us too early and "my song" just isn't the same without his energy. I still have the radiation suit he gave me at the Congress theater in Chicago the night before they played at Lollapalooza. Gut Feeling. THE best Devo song ever.
My favorite band for so damned close to 40 years I hate to even think about it. How many bands made a profound and lasting influence, all the while saying things that need to be said AND managed to have a "hit" while doing it? They brought counterculture to the mainstream. RIP to the ones who are no longer around and may the rest be around forever.
I ❤❤❤❤❤ Devo, but have to admit that I was super high the 1st time I heard this (my husband now, back then had borrowed a tape that my uncle had made transferring all his vinyl 2 cassettes & this 1 tape has their 1st 2 or 3 albums in order,& was playing the hits so loud on his great surround sound like system in his car,& this cassette had premium quality sound-I still have it,cuz my uncle let us keep it,but since then/late 90s I've bought all the albums & DVDs they've put out that I can find, lol),& anyways it really felt like I was on a roller coaster ride-so it kinda freaked me out,but I didn't dislike it. The 2nd time I heard it when I was just reg.high(smoked pot all day, daily back then) & not stoned,I liked it better than the 1st time & started noticing how great the hard power/bar chords w/the punk like sound & tempo were. Not 2 mention the almost over-powering bass lines that u can feel on ur insides, along w/some of the coolest drum riffs w/a high level of intensity that's also almost overpowering, paired w/the way the pace picks up/tempo changes are perfectly timed & placed from steady then switching 2 fast & hard. And top it off w/mind blowing awesomely unique & always varied in level of intensity, ever so imposrtant 2 making their sound of their songs stand out from all mainstream b.s.is the addition of keyboards/synth.(& sometimes a theramin 2),vocals from the genius Mothersbaugh...I was fully aware by the 3rd time I heard it,that this has 2 be 1 of the best songs(it's hard 4 me 2 chose btwn.Smart Patrol+Mr.DNA & this, which 1 I think is better)by 1 of the best alternative/punk/hard rock bands ever!! So if ur screening ppl.& picking friends by using this song, keep in mind if they don't know DEVO yet,& u play it they don't immediately jive w/it,they could be 1 of those ppl.like me,that sometimes needs 2 hear a song 2or3 times 2 really appreciate it & decide that maybe there's way more to this group than "Whip it"!
Devo performed in the cartoon movie heavy metal that's how I like to remember them!!! Devo came in a time between disco and rock so I do owe them an apology!! I was blessed to see them at the 96 Lollapalooza... Irvine.
Merci DEVO !
This just proves how to be funny funny ha ha and dead serious at the same time like walking and chewing gum at the same time. The only reason I can do that is because of listening to duty now for the future sideways forward and back since '79 or so.
You guys need to come back to Adelaide Australia,....I saw Devo back in the 80's at memorial Drive and I'll always cherish that moment! I've got that 'Gut Feelin',.that you'll be back! Ha!
Such a great video, one of my favorite songs ever. As a skater I was turned on to Devo back in 1978 through Skateboarder magazine and have been a fan ever since. Sadly I never got to see them perform live.
This video gives me more hope than a trip to the gym or a note from the Doctor. I see these guys with their middle aged guts and believe I can still go on, hell I can play this on my air guitar!!!! That's the power of rock-n-roll.
He's playing the main guitar riff slightly different to the original recorded version. Adding an extra note to each chord..... so, there you go! SPUDS OF THE WORLD UNITE! 🥔🥔🥔🥔🥔🥔❤❤❤👍👍👍
Look at the number of mobile phones in the air, this is all the tragedy of our society, stop this fucking competition and lives! I would have given anything to be at this concert and dance, Devo # 1 forever! ARE WE NOT MEENNN ? We are DEVOOOOO !

One the best intros in all music history,,!
They don't make intros like this anymore!
The best intro of all time... literally half the song is intro!
Omg no kidding!
Absolutely agree -- it gives me chills.
The best intro ever blows my mind
RIP Bob Casale! Thanks for making it a Beautiful World
Amen to that.
...and the riff to Gut Feeling. And Satisfaction.
@@Mucving one of the best riffs ever !!
He's been gone this long already?
can we all agree this is the most beautiful song by a most beautiful band
Yes all spuds will agree.
Hell yeah...🤯👍
I'm with you all the way spud...
Spud here agrees! 👍👍👍❤❤❤❤🎵🎵🎵🎵
It's beautiful 😍😍😍
The thing i find great about this performance is when artist usually get older their voices tend to deteriorate but Mark still has it, its amazing!
So true.
I honestly like his vocals better now than on the original recordings...more power, more emotion to them. Just works so well, especially on this song.
That's it Joe

Look toujours aussi improbable...
One of the best beginnings to a song, of all time...
Can't get enough of that keyboard!
Fuckin awesome. DEVO all the way back to 1980.
2022 I got a gut feeling!
The most visionary New Wave band.
I use this band as a barometer for picking friends
I consider you a friend hahaha
Henry Rollins said there's 2 kinds of people: those who get Devo and those who don't.
¡AMIGO!
Great barometer, friend 😊

There's just something about this that makes me smile.
Because they are enjoying performing, you can see in their smiles
Even slowed down it makes me smile
Awesome video of one of their best songs! Bassist absolutely owned it!!
They put on one of the best shows of any band that's ever been! I've been a fan since the late70's thanks to Dr. Demento.
Nice to see Bob 2 front and center.
amazing live they are in their 60's and still got it
I was turned on to this by NPR's "All Things Considered," 15 March 2017.
It's wonderful seeing these old men rocking so hard.
00:20 I love how they're playing and suddenly someone throws a bra and Bob 2 smiles
Miss ya Bob
I look forward to seeing Devo in los Angela’s in sept 2021. We are all Devo!
And? Did you see them?
Holly Devo, right here!
RIP Bob 2 (1952-2014)

Looks like the Observatory in Santa Ana. I have been to so many great shows there.
Master stuff!
Wes Anderson brought me back to DEVO
DEVO!
A beautifully written song in every sense.
A tear and a smile .hope and sadness but ultimately ...fuck it
Paul I fully agree. The sentiment of "I look for silver lining, but you're rotten to the core" has stuck with me a long time.
It's even better than the original. They get it.. all of it.
Gotta GUT feelin'!
Ya still got it boys!
David Bowie was a fan of Devo. That says it all.
I think he produced one of their albums too!
