  • #offroad #overland #camping A few hours after Ivan Milat dies Phil and I drive the Belanglo State Forest, a killing ground for Australia's worst Serial Killer, Ivan Milat. The Backpacker Murders were committed here by Milat, possibly with an accomplice, and driving around this lonely wilderness you can feel the macabre atmosphere. We arrive mid afternoon and drive Longacre Fire Trail, and encounter a homemade cross standing in the middle of a track? This is the location where four bodies were found. Then as the sun sets we return to the memorial of the victims of the Butcher of Belanglo and drive Belanglo Plateau Fire Trail. Phil leaves the vehicle half way along and and explores a cave. Is there Paranormal Activity here? The killer has died and we're at the place where the crimes were committed? Watch until the end to find out.

Thanks for sharing Phil. You've sat on this footage for a while mate. On Ivan Milat, he also spent some time in Maitland Gaol before it closed down. I did a tour there and they showed us his cell.

I heard he was there for a while. That’s a real old school prison isn’t it? 😀🤙🏼

Interesting video, thanks for sharing. One question out of curiosity, why do you have one spotty pointed up to the trees?

Well spotted! 😀 It was all a bit of an experiment. We didn’t know if we’d be able to film at night but the Sony Camera did a great job. The autofocus was accurate even through the windscreen at night. One of the lights has a spread beam and the other was the spot and we thought it’d show more of the bush if it was pointed up slightly. 😀🤙🏼

I think this is my favourite video of yours! You forgot to mention what the significance of the cross on the track was?
That’s bloody creepy that some fool has gone to the effort to put that on the track. It makes me think that Milat worshippers frequent the area.
I’ll bet some areas have an awful atmosphere to them in there. We went down the Oberon Colong Stock Route a few years ago and planned to camp at Mt Werong, but both my Wife and I had a terrible feeling about the place. It’s odd that we both felt it. The only other place I’ve felt that way was at the Muntapa Railway Tunnel in QLD.
I’ve been down to Belanglo, but not right out in the forest, because we were on holidays in my Wife’s hatchback. I’ll have to see if I can convince her to take a night run down there in the Triton 😂

Thanks for that comment. 👍🏻 Re: The Cross which was weird to see, the first 2 bodies were found by a couple of runners off Longacre FT. Then later 2 more fairly close by so it’s a big part of the backpacker story. Who would put a cross like that? Yeah it could be a sick fan I guess. There’s evidence of 2 people’s involvement in some of the murders and only Milat went to jail so there could be an accomplice still out there? Belanglo is still closed apart from the campsite so check on the State Forests website about closures before you go eh? 👍🏻😀

@@Challenger4WDI reckon he had an accomplice/s. There was talk that he was incestuous with his sister, so it makes sense that he would’ve used her to put female backpackers at ease and willing to get in the car with him. Bloody unsettling knowing that his Nephew carried on his disgusting legacy in the same area years later.
Did you let your tyres down? I know that you would every other time, but I’m wondering if you did it here? That 10 minutes outside pumping the tyres up in the dark would be too much for me in that area haha!
Definitely agree with you on the Please Be Careful sign. We’ve been to a hell of a lot of State Forests, Conservation Areas, and National Parks over the years, and never have I seen a sign like that anywhere else. Makes for a good photo, though.
I showed my Wife your video and she said “no chance are we going at night” 😂

She’s the sensible one eh? 😀 We did let the tyres down but the main road out is dirt so we kept going and pumped them up at the rest stop on the Hume Hwy which is well lit! There were 2 caravans camping overnight btw. We saw them as we came into the Forest. They maybe didn’t know that Milat has passed earlier that morning! My wife said she’d never camp there, probably a good decision…😀👍🏻

True yeah Belanglo would be ideal but Wolf Creek was also based on Bradley Murdoch and he abducted the couple in the outback so they’ve gone with that location. 🤙🏼😀

Do you believe the forest is haunted do you believe it's cursed and do you believe the ghosts of the backpackers Ivan killed are haunting the forest did you ever have any experiences with that with their ghosts did you hear anything or see anything unusual out in the forest at night

Just picture this camping in the forest at night and you can hear the ghostly screams of the backpackers being chased by Ivan Milat and just picture this you're in your tent and you hear a noise and it's Ivan pointing a gun at you from the tents door you close the tent and he's ghost is gone

@@scottwalker5379 maybe they will. There’s been documentary type shows but not a proper movie like Wolf Creek.
