So eating cheap american food for quenching hunger is like quenching thirst with seawater.
As it seems many didn`t catch this but I was referring to the point that they put additives in that food that make people hungrier, causing them to eat more than they should, much like seawater would only make you thirstier.

That means walks of over 10 minutes specifically, not the accumulated time spent walking that week, so honestly the week time period doesn't mean much here. Actually the stat also doesn't account for when they walk continuously for 10 minutes at least once in 2 weeks. Honestly, not that hard to imagine if you have been to countries with long distances that rely on cars.

Sometimes I simply grab my headphones, stop doing whatever I am doing and go walk outside because I simply need to move, or when I go to university I ask to please be left at the entrance to the campus so I can walk or jog towards the building for a few minutes, and then take the stairs as to not have to use the elevator. They are probably used to McDonald’s anyway. As a travelling American (not obese one, skinny one) we prefer to eat at places like McDonalds and Burger King because:
      1. We are used to eating at fast food chains, you can find a BK or McDonalds in every single town in the US, 10x more widespread than restaurants.
      2. It's an easy and quick tasty familiar meal (not healthy one though)
      3. We don't like having to be accustomed to a foreign cuisine depending on how much it differs.

In a privatized healthcare system there is no incentive to have the citizens be healthy, quite the contrary, it is good for business to have lots of sick people. With a publically funded healthcare system like in Europe it makes economic sense to support policies that reduce strain on the healthcare system, so the system is biased to actually keep you healthy, instead of keeping you sick like the Murican system.

Way I see it, if you have a business that sells a necessary service people require to survive, ie Healthcare, water, etc., eventually a sociopath will take it over and monopolize it, then charge people ludicrous prices as they have no other option if they want to live. It's existence allows for power over people, therefore it will attract morrally corrupt people who will do everything they can to abuse it.
By having a well funded and regulated option available for "free", you reduce the opportunities for those situations to arise, although I guarantee there will be vile people that try to defund, discredit, and dismantle the free option to try and get their monopolistic grip on that necessity.
Plus, regulation is what prevents corpo rats from pushing out a dangerous minimum effort max profit product - like what happened when Thatcher sold England's water infrastructure. Quality actually dropped to the point where people were effectively getting untreated/unsafe water or outright sewage, but the lobbyists were making record profits on wildly inflated fees. There was no monetary incentive for them to provide a good service, so they simply didn't.
The worst part is, while there's plenty to go around, too many people are obsessed with ever-surging "profits" instead of improving logistics; as though they could pay off their moral bankruptcy with gold.

Great video. Im American and was obese by age 11. I'm healthy weight now at 20 and have been into working out for 6 years now. Losing as much weight as i have here is tough especially when youre eating food youre told is healthy but really isnt. Its beyond disgraceful what has happened to my country. I will be in europe soon for a while studying abroad and am very intrigued to see a whole new world, and the food not full of absolute trash. Cooking for myself is what changed everything. Things went downhill fast when we went from local farmers markets in towns to massive corporations feeding every american. Our guidelines on food should be much more strict similar to Europes. But our government is controlled by private companies so there is no changing that anytime soon.

Here, the obesity rate is around 40% maybe more, and in the UK, it’s around 20%. I would say the population differences contribute to that but idk if I’d be lying lol. I disagree about it being fast food related. In Türkiye the local cuisine is very much based on fattening carbs and oily meat (think about a döner for example). Besides that, since people are poor all they can afford are cheap carbs such as pasta and bread which they gorge on. Something else to mention is the gender imbalance for obesity where men are 20% obese but women are 40% probably since men go out to work more where as women stay at home and cook. Unlike most of the world, if I were to guess from personal experience, İ would say that obesity is far more prevalent in the countryside than the city.

After watching the video I was a bit worried about Estrogen in food and went on a little google research. For those of you who were also worried, I found that
    - There are hormones in meat (less in EU produced meat) but the by far biggest contributor to external hormone intake is milk and dairy products. Although the fat reduced variants contain significantly less hormones.
    - To the question wether or not those consumed external hormones are disrupting our endocrine system my findings vary. But most meta analysis I found and all doctor's journals agreed that the effects are most likely insignificant as only a small fraction of those hormones actually end up in our blood. Most is destroyed by cooking and our digestive system.
    - The biggest contributors to hormonal imbalances are obesity, lack of excercise, stress and bad sleeping habits. Compared to those factors, external hormones in food can more or less be ignored.
    - Especially obesity is dangerous for men because the fat cells literally transform our manly testosterone into girly estrogen. So more fat leads to less testosterone.
Hope that helps. Please correct me if I'm wrong and you know more. I am also too lazy to list sources and most weren't in english anyway.

No doubt Americans are given awful food choices and the worst food for you is generally the cheapest but the vast majority of americans have the ability to eat healthier after doing the bare minimum of research and exercising common sense but choose not to. Health-wise, I think mediteranean cuisine (especially Greek) is about as healthy as you can get and better than any regional American dishes. But ultimately, I think exercise is the deal breaker, Europeans walk more and are generally thinner because of that. I think you can overcome any cuisine issues with enough exercise but most people don't have the time/will power to do that. But moving your body regularly, even walking, will always be superior to being completely sedentary like most Americans

My mom travelled to the US when she was 17 back in 1997, she was going to live there for a year, living with an american family. The only thing she have told me about her experinces there is that the food they ate at home and at school was trash. We're talking about stacks of chips, snacks, cakes, you name it. 1. America is a very food rich country and can simply give more food in a general sense to the populace.
      2. Again rich country means more choices you can easily get a "bucket" of water if you wish at the same machine.
      3. Generally it matters in which area in the country you live. Rural America much prefer eggs, oats, bacon, etc (some don't even eat breakfast). Its more city America that kinda have that problem and a general lack of cooking skills.
      4. Depends on the state. Most of what I've seen/ heard is actually okay sounding. Mostly fruits, meats, vegetables, etc. its depended apon funding and kitchen staff. You can always pack your Childs lunch as well.
      5. There is a very large choice of bread. Walmart for example I counted 20 brands not including that which was made that day in house. All very in ingrediencies and show what's in it. Again its a choice. (I like Dave's killer bread)
      6. I work all over my state. it takes a 1hr 10 by driving to get to just the headquarters alone. Not a bus nor train would solve this. A normal commute for Americans as far as I remember is 26mins one way. Its highly depended on each state again. This bullet point I could talk about for hours.
      7. Depends on the job you want and that "life balance" you want. Never had someone force me to do anything. Its actually more people living above their means and working a job and never learning anything. Another topic that could be talked about for hours with hundreds of reasons.
      8. I agree whole heartedly but this bullet point is just a product of number 7. For the single man/woman its not every good. better for the married couple imo.
Its much more easy to point out flaws in a society without ever coming up with a solution, than to address these supposed problems and fix them. "Complaining about a problem without proposing a solution is called whining” - Teddy Roosevelt. This video like many others is done not really in a constructive way but more a way of soothing your bias. Pointing out flaws to make one feel superior and gaining your views as well. So that you can focus on another country's problems and ignore your own.
It would be very easy for me to bash europe countries but ill refrain. It comes down to Americans having so many choices and not all are going to choose a "good" one nor are you going have a easy time telling Americans you're limiting their choices either. America and europe is so fundamentally different but also the same.
I tried hard not to make this a long comment but, that didn't work very well. Hard to sum up large problems with a few words. If you're interested in further decisions I welcome it.

"European junk food" is also unhealthy, but from time to time it's OK. We drive also A LOT. so, what you can do and it might be even cheaper than what your family is spending: Try to avoid sugar, especially stop drinking coke, drink water (or I often replace it with Gatorade -> here it has almost no sugar, read the label). Don't eat after 5 or 6 pm. When eating burgers, dont eat the bun (its the source of sugar -> Hamburger is from Europe and the innovation was just that a random guy added a bun to it - we eat also burgers without buns, and it is still superb 😂 😂). Avoid too many dips, sauces etc., use spices, they are also cheap and do not include fat or sugar. So, it can be fairly easy. Chips - eat them, but once a week or so.
The more sugar and fat you avoid, the better will be your taste after some time.
Easy and cheap food: Cook potatoes, add a bit of salt or sugar free joghurt or make an omlette without anything (no cheese, no meat, nothing, just eggs).. make pasta only with tomato sauce, thats it. Spices... as many as you want.
Check out some european or asian cook-books - they are awesome and almost no sugar or fat is inside and you can prepare it quickly.
The vegetables are probably the same as in europe, so there are tons of super simple and delicious meals. Meat maximum 2-3 times per week.
If you just try a part of it for say 1 or 2 weeks, you will start to feel better, more stronger.
Every time I visit McDonald's here, I feel so tired (and I love to eat it), thats why I do it maybe once per 1 or 2 weeks as well 😂 all the best from Austria (possessing also a heart-attack-cuisine)

American here: It seems like a lot of the viewers and commenters on this video are not American, so if you have a question about America i'd be happy to answer it.
In the video, I like the point where Geopold mentioned how poor states with poor people have it the worst. I live in West Virginia and it often competes for the poorest, dumbest, and fattest of the 50 states. It comes down to access to resources and money. If you're not American, you have to remember how large (and consistently populous - unlike Siberia) the land mass is. Localized "poor areas/states" can occur when money/labor/value is exported out of them even if the money goes just over a state border. Often when a "poor area" occurs it can't be reverted as the people with the money and power distance themselves from the area. West Virginia and its people have historically been extorted for cheap natural resources (coal and steel), and cheap labor (often by companies not from West Virginia - hence the generated value is exported and not reinvested into the people who made it). During the industrial revolution era businessmen ruled this area with an iron fist and created poor working conditions with low social mobility. Many people (my great-grandfather included) died in coal mine accidents leaving behind little money and overwhelming responsibilities for their widowed wives. Situations like this put many families in a position where higher eduication (going to college or law/medical/dental school) isn't an option so they stay as lower or middle-class families. While already being stripped of their resources and generated value, their manufacturing jobs are exported to China, Mexico, Bangladesh, and India in the 1970's and 1980's removing their last bastion of economic stability (as manufacturing jobs were the only high-paying jobs that could be attained without higher education). Often with nothing else to turn to and utterly depressed, these people get hooked on opiates in the form of painkiller medications given out for chroic pain caused by factory or mine work. Now add in the fact that since people are poor they can only afford the lowest quality of food (which is sugary and addicting) and you can start to understand why poor Americans aren't concerned with the geography of Balkan countries. This is why some places in America are "poor areas" and "should be avoided" and why other parts of America look like a futuristic promised land. I've only used West Virginia as an example as it's my home and it's very clear to see the money/resources/blood flowing out of it into someone else's pockets.
In America, if you're rich (and your family has been for some time) you'll likely be well educated, have nice things, travel to foreign countries, etc. If you are so poor you don't know if your house will be warm or where your next meal will come from, you don't care about the world at large because "your world" has more pressing problems. Yes, this is true for anyone in the world but, Americans are fed a plethora of addictive traps from childhood onward and the rest of the world is very far away from their problems. I'm very fortunate to have been able to travel to France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and England to try and learn about the world in which I live. I've been able to dedicate time to healthy eating, self-motivation, and higher education when many of my fellow West Virginians have not. I also often find the social media videos of people not knowing geography shocking, but I have an understanding of why this happens. Are they very stupid and probably a little bit close-minded? Absolutely, but they probably don't want to be that way.

You probably have noted the difference in safety in general between EU countries and the USA, and I would like to ask you, how do you see the american police compared to other countries' police?

    • @JS2000A
      @JS2000A ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@monchique8388 I have some insight into police in America vs my travels. The biggest thing about safety and police in America is it comes down to the mentality of the area. If the area is low crime and high trust, you may never notice the police. I lived in a town of 300 people growing up and there was only 2 policemen, so there effectively was no police presence at all. We never locked our doors or locked up the farm equipment. We’d even leave the keys in all of the cars and ATV’s. Everyone in the small town knew what their goals were, knew who owned what, and knew that stealing would go punished. We only had theft once and it was someone who was on drugs and they were caught in 1 hour after someone recognized them on an ATV that wasn’t theirs. We didn’t press any charges because the social implications of them being labeled “a thief” in a small town was far worse than a fine. Some areas have established a high trust micro society and others have not. Rural communities (like the one Iived in for a while) are often very very safe. Today I live in a remarkably safe town of 5000 people. The last violent crime was in 2000 and it was by someone who was not a local. So why bring that up? What does that have to do with police? My personal view of police is likely not the norm. I’ve rarely ever encountered them in my home town and when I did they were typically helping someone with car troubles or going to sort out a personal dispute between people. In my area we do not have a “group/gang vs police” mentality. We also don’t have a problem with homelessness, extreme poverty, or many social issues because the town is so small. When I have gone to bigger cities, the narrative on police in America changes. In larger cities people don’t trust eachother because society at large doesn’t socially shame them for their bad deeds. Unlike in a town of 300 people, it’s impossible to alienate someone as “a thief” to 1 million + people. So you have situations where people steal, rob, do other illegal activities to attempt to rise out of poverty. Because these acts are criminal, the police get involved and you get the systematic oppression of the poor people who did commit crimes (justified or not) and a “us vs them” police state becomes a problem. I really can’t comment on what it feels like to be a minority in the US or to be homeless where the police feel like a threat. Those aren’t my experiences and the police have never been threatening to me. I’ve had them be rude and unreasonable but not a higher rate than the general public.
Here’s some of my thoughts on police in Europe. To me the police in the UK didn’t have any real way to stop crime because they didn’t have guns. I mean sure they could hurt you, but they’re not going to stop you unless there’s a lot of them. They felt a lot less threatening and they didn’t really seem that useful. They seemed like parking ticket enforcers and code informers more than proper police. I spent a few days in the outskirts of London and there was certainly a lot of crime and the cops didn’t seem very useful. Canterbury and Dover were different, they were more relaxed.
In Switzerland, I only encountered the police once and they were just helping someone on the side of the road. Switzerland is a very high-trust society based on my experience and understanding so it seemed to benefit from the “small town effect” that small American towns have. It was about the same in Germany.
The real culture shock to me was France. I’m not really sure how laws work in France and I’m not really sure how the police work in France. I’ve been to CDG airport twice now and I’m always amazed with the airport security. They carry automatic rifles and look very much like military police. There was an unattended bag they suspected was a bomb so we were rushed around the airport with rifles shoulder and ready. It ended up being okay but they were far scarier than any other police officers I’ve seen. Even their outfits were very military-like which I think would feel threatening to most Americans. Automatic NATO rifles? That’s terrifying and you would never see that on a cop in America. Also to mention that they were just holding them casually and yelling orders at us in the airport!? That would not be allowed in America people would feel very scared and feel threatened. In America we love our military, but they are very different from the police in conduct and outfit. Maybe it’s not so different in France, but I don’t know. Onto French laws. It seems like France (specifically Paris) just doesn’t have laws. Some guy dressed up as a cop in the subway and claimed we owed him 100 euro per person to ride the subway and if we didn’t pay he’d have us all arrested. If this happened in America it would be the a huge legal deal. We just told the guy to piss off and hopped over the turnstile into the subway. Was this guy a real cop? Did we commit a crime? I still don’t know but we didn’t get in trouble. Another time involved gypsies in France. Idk if there is a more polite way to call them but when I was there, they were called gypsies. One of them stole $700 USD from my family via pickpocketing (which I guess is just okay in France?)! Another time one of them ran up to one of the other people on my tour and grabbed their hand to try and lead them off (this was right in front of the Palais Garnier Opera House). We just shoved the gypsies down onto the pavement and told them not to touch us. In America, what they did was illegal and what we did was illegal. They assaulted us by grabbing at us and we assaulted them. If something like that happened in America the police would have taken someone to the station, but I guess it is not so in France. So I guess is robbing, jumping subway turnstiles, and hitting people okay in France? The cops seemed to turn a blind eye to all of this. When we told the hotel staff they said this was normal.
I hope this answered your question. Sorry for writing a book for a response. If I didn’t answer your question let me know and I’ll try again, this was fun.

@@monchique8388 One other thing to note from an American to global perspective. If you see an American abroad, they DO NOT want you to touch them. In our culture we only touch those we know very well or as a formal business greeting. We have a concept of personal space that a lot of other countries/cultures don’t. If given the option (not like on a subway or cramped situation) try to stay 0.5 meter away from us. This more so applies to just standing or sitting, not so much walking by us. It’s not because of germs, or smells, or we think anything is wrong with someone, Americans just view a small bubble around theirs as a safe space for them. If someone gets too close we become uncomfortable and uneasy. Americans don’t “think we own the sidewalk” we think we control the right of what happens to our body. When I left America was warned about this, but it made Paris a pretty uncomfortable place to be for me. I felt like there was always someone breathing down my back. At the time I had taken 4 years of Highschool (grade 9-12) French, but really the only French I spoke to people was asking for the bathroom and asking to not be touched/excusing myself. I would go back, but only to buy as much Pain au Chocolat as I could carry and escape to the countryside lol. The French countryside is very very nice and I would happily go back.

Shit is so calorically dense from all the oils and shit you just gotta trust you've eaten enough because 1 quarter pounder is like most of a days calories but most people could probably slam 3 without thinking. Staying active is also quite important because you gotta work off what you eat regardless of what is it, your body stores what it doesn't use, aka fat.

But I'm not sure about the taste, tbh. I've tasted it and it is just cheap garbage. Like, the moment you put it in your mouth and start chewing, your body immediately feels something wrong.

ABOUT THE MSG BIT @ 6:35 : The article you quoted is total BS. It uses pejorative words to describe a natural phenomena. Ingesting any food ever will increase insulin production, this is a normal thing that's suppose to happen. MSG is not a foreign molecule, it's an amino acid that composes natural proteins and thus is present NATURALLY in pretty much all the foods we eat. The author is full of shit too, the next sentence says "MSG has been linked to diabetes and obesity, ...". Here's a quote from the very same PubMed article she links to justify this affirmation : "Critical analysis of existing literature, establishes that many of the reported negative health effects of MSG have little relevance for chronic human exposure and are poorly informative as they are based on excessive dosing that does not meet with levels normally consumed in food products." END QUOTE. If you just bother to read the abstract of that publication you'll find it contradict everything she says and she links it herself trusting that no one will click it and use their better judgement.

All across europe you see traditional meals being prepared at home (yes, especially in Italy we are taught how to cook by our own parents) with fresh ingredients you can find at the supermarket for relatively cheap prices, this is our strength when talking about food.

What a lot of people dont understand about American food regulation is how chaotic it really is. The FDA regulates mostly drugs and its a common joke that the F in the name is silent, however they are responsible for 80% of our food including packaged goods, diary and seafood. The other 20% is handled by the USDA which includes meat and poultry, both of them have the SAME amount of funding which means that the food section of the FDA is terribly underfunded and has very little resources which leads to a ton of things to be overlooked in the American food industry. So the split between the FDA and the USDA gets very confusing, for example a frozen cheese pizza is regulated by the FDA but a frozen pepperoni pizza is regulated by the USDA and it is legally considered a vegetable.

DUDE! Great video! Something I’ve noticed here in the US is if you want to be healthy, you have to ACTIVELY pursue the lifestyle. Clean foods are rare, and exercise doesn’t occur naturally. You have to research all these chemicals and spend hours scouring labels on foods, not to mention forking over the cash required. The healthy vs unhealthy demographic is super polarized because each side takes wildly different approaches to eating. It’s basically as ruthless as politics at this point.
