We Europeans need to know geography to point out what we used to own.
That's so true lol. Every nation has their own national history program at schools with some maps of some larger historic boarders and then also another map about some foreign country country claiming their power over us which basically we practice to develop grudge towards in school years.

Well DUH, it's called UNITED STATES of course I won't learn all 50 states US has.
I'm Ghanaian, and I remember being punished in grade 6 for not being able to mention West African countries and their capital cities. I think the problem in America is that they don't encourage themselves to learn of other countries and cultures.
In Ghana, having knowledge of many countries around the world is seen as very intelligent and respectable.
Back in primary school, my brother and I had a huge world map pasted on our bedroom wall just beside our bed. And I remember reading the list of countries and their locations everyday in an attempt to know all the over 180 countries worldwide.
One time, my uncle promised me a gift if I could point to a country he would mention on the map the moment he mentions it without have to search for it. And I think I got about 80% of it right, and I was 12 by then.
As a declining world power we really never had to take an interest in other countries or cultures. We kinda don’t have to. In practice it would be a good idea. But what are the real losses if we don’t ?

Regarding your point on passports, I would like to point out that it is a lot easier to travel to other countries if you live in Europe rather than America. Traveling anywhere other than Canada and Mexico is extremely costly and frankly not worth it for most people. There’s no need for a passport if you don’t have the time or money needed for such a journey.
That is a very logical reason for them having less passports. But I'm bias so I will ignore it and continue to call Americans dumb, fat and ignorant
Yes, very good point. We (europeans) are very close geographically and in many ways closely related to many other european countries. One thing he didn't talk about is the news, and how in Europe you regularly hear about European union or other european countries' news. This helps a lot in learning geography.
Edit: Also, since historically, boundaries in Europe have changed a lot, during our history classes we often come to talk about the whole continent.
@@Comprandre To be fair as a European I don't have a passport, I'm from the eastern part of Europe and I travel mostly to the western parts and I use my ID, which is the only needed identification for me, thanks to the EU.

In fairness to Idris Elba, probably would kill the immersion a bit if a character from the Baltimore projects had a suave British accent
This whole video is just Geopold being shocked by obvious things. Yes, a movie targeted at Americans is going to have American accents; and no, the average American is not going to have a passport when there's no need for one unless he's flying 3000+ miles or going to Mexico for some reason.
I was always taught to keep your passport up to date in case you need to leave in a hurry or as a good source of ID, so that actually was shocking to me

Another reason travelling the world is hard is price. We don't get Ryanair lads' day off prices to anywhere outside the country. Cheapest flights to Europe or South Am are usually $300-400+, and during vacation season often more.
Well if low income americans can't afford to travel at all anyways why would an Airline company cut it's margin and compete over low price flights?
There is also the problem of not having holidays.
I like how the last guy indicated with his hand that South America is above North America on a map. Bro doesn't even know where's north.
I get if they where told to point the north as they stand immidietly, but on a map? jeez.

Another issue with the US experiencing other cultures is the $$$ it takes to fly to another continent. A flight can range anywhere between 600 - 1200 dollars, and while there are cheaper flights for less money available, it usually comes at the expense of time. Either way, most Americans would rather spend only 100 - 400 dollars (or less) to fly across the country and experience something "new" yet familiar, at least culturally. It's comforting to most people who only want a vacation.

Bro I swear I live in Madrid, and this morning it was 4 ºC and now at 6 pm its 18 tf is this weather (and in summer its 40ºC, I don't know how I survive)
Having -35°C every Night with -25°C at uts Hottest during the Winter makes you wish for Global Warming
@@dulguunjargal1199 well lifing in 40+ °C is the exact opposite, so people tend to have the opposite opinion
Climate collapse my guy.
As a Floridian, 40 ⁰C (104 ⁰F) is nothing to us
@@Junichsen Don't forget to take into account weather conditions.
For example the humidity in Britain makes 39º feel much hotter, many tourists need breathing assistance at it's worst.
The cold in somewhere wet like the Arctic is colder than the same temperature in somewhere like Alaska where it is less wet.
Dry heat burns while wet heat makes the air thicker and harder to breathe.
The US and the UK at the same temperature would feel different; US citizens would burn worse than us, while the UK would be stuffier and harder to breathe the air. It's a big part in why you get more wild fires over there than we do(or don't). Over there a wild fire is possible, if a fire breaks out here, it's most definitely just arson.
My Canadian buddy told me the first two summers he spent here felt like living in a steam room, with no way to escape, while in Canada, it felt more like an oven.
In Tom Cruise movie Valkyrie all lead German characters were played by Americans or majority of them were British. In Die Hard series Gruber brothers were played British actors who were playing German characters.
4:25 You forgot Alaska was part of the United States lol
it's just meta commentary on how the british also sucks at geography bro
And Hawaii and just about every state and it's ecology/geographies
Entire country=state got it
People are too preoccupied with their local area to be bothered by foreign cultures that more than likely will not affect them.
Plus europe and its countries are about the size of the US and its states lol when it comes to sizes and travel distance. Honestly kinda goes to show how unified the US is compared to the rest of the world.
like 70% of the US is just deserts and mountains fym 💀
I wouldn't really call the US so united right now. There is such as huge political divide rn. Sure, the states may be united but the population is not.
America? Unified? When has it ever been?
@@Swedishmafia101MemeCorporation pre-independence
@@Swedishmafia101MemeCorporation if you're not American i'm not obligated to answer.
You underestimate how different the culture of the USA changes depending on the region. We're really a series of different countries held together by duct tape and the threat of military occupation
1:31 Best healthcare in Louisiana
Btw, this is ENTIRELY satire. Though this is also a reference to how expensive healthcare is in the USA due to all of the insurance companies!
I bet that 70 % of the USA don't even know that they are immigrants fom Europe, Africa or Asia.
A friend of mine is from Luisiana and confirmed that some people think that they and their ancestors have always lived in the USA and even originated there. Now everyone can think what they want, but for historical reasons immigrants from Europe etc. should not consider themselves “American”.
Well it’s taught in the schools so I bet 70% do or should know… Also being “American” can mean anything is just something we say because we live in America
i live in america and i havent met a single person who thinks that
“nobody should consider themselves european because human life originated in africa🤓” ah comment
Your (cultural) nationality mostly comes with connection to its culture, "blood" has little to do here.
(Also, eating tacos and pizzas doesn't make you mexicano-italian, you gotta at least have lived in the country, in my opinion, to claim the culture's nationality).
I'm not talking about laws and citizenship either, that's a different thing.
> what's country is it?
> they have oil?
> no?
> then dosen't matter
Dude could you please elaborate the bit on the 4:55 that europeans NEED to travel to keep their sanity. Because I've migrated to Europe and got clinically depressed not only because of the rational stress but because I couldn't leave the country for 2 years due to my documents being processed. I'm really interested in that concept.
most people can't afford to travel but don't care. it isn't that bad mate
What country did you move to?
Your videos are very educational while having a special humor to it. I love it!
Educational?
2:36 the funny thing is that the Queen was actually also the Queen from Canada and the whole Commonwealth.
I actually remember seeing that one of these shorts creators who make Americans seem stupid actually edited the video to make it seem like the victim incorrectly answered the first question, but behind the scenes was actually correctly answering other questions and just got his words taken out of context to make him look bad. Another reason we should burn the shorts section at youtube HQ
in your biome map you forgot about alaska and hawaii i reckon
In the new wonka movie (which is set in england) there are so many characters with american accents that are LITERALLY BRITISH
And Wonka is Irish for some reason
nah he was american but it makes sense since he was traveling the world, he wasn't born in england
@@Noobyoof his mother has a deep Irish accent tho
You didn't count Alaska or Hawaii or Marshall Islands, etc... in the map about every natural landscape 4:25.
The Marshall Islands aren't a US territory tho💀
Modern Europeans forget that America has colonies and we dont need a passport to go to any of them. Our propaganda works.
@@rebeeee give it a few years, we’re waiting for them to find oil
Is it illegal in the United States to know geography?
Getting a passport in the US is this long lengthy process and sometimes a bit costly. And most of the people who traveled are upper middle class anyways.
0:49 I don't know why we need to know where Idaho is, it's a state. I wouldn't expect anyone to know where Saarland is in my country.
Exactly, I dont understand why Americans use "you cant name every state" as a comeback, like bro, those arent nations, and if we go by size, we dont expect them to know all the russian Krai's lol
It's always a good day when Geopold posts a video :)
I know a girl who passed the AP world exam with a 4 and could not point out where Russia was on a map.
*Talks about intelligence without mentioning Asian intelligence*
Most heinous crime ever
I hear Ashkenazi's are big brained, when they're not stealing land
Asia isnt in the title
Its basically normal to know every Towns Location and Name in your Country in Asia.
You would be considered "American" if you can't
he’s comparing europe and the us; it’s not a global video
Asians aren't "intelligent" or "smart". They're just great at labor and hence are walking talking cheap calculators. Intelligence and smartness is a combination of several types of intellectual and mental abilities, ie, several types of smartness, including presence of mind, creativity and logical reasoning among other things. Just like "fitness" doesn't only mean being fast. It's a combination of several factors such as stamina and relative strength among others. All things considered Italians are probably the smartest of all.
The highlight in Portugal lmao 😭
I didnt get it either...
Daniel Craig have Southern Accent in Knives Out and Chris Evans mocked him by calling CSI KFC, Foghorn Leghorn in the movie.
MAX mentioned, GO SWEDEN!!!
SO WHAT IF YOU CAN SEE THE DARKEST SIDE OF ME
In all fairness regarding US citizens traveling less; it's WAY more expensive to fly to check out some other countries than it is to take a quick car or train ride like you can do out in the EU
I am American and I love geography. I could name 115 countries in 15 minutes at 11 years old, and locations of at least 100.
I think it's also the fact that our culture glorifies chauvinism and ignorance while also holding intellectualism and expertise in open contempt. Hyperstimulation of short-form content is only exacerbating the problem. I have a friend who is a teacher, and he told me he is not allowed to lecture longer than 10 minutes. The students simply do not have a long enough attention span, he is told. Fun fact, a decade ago 1 in 5 Americans were not aware that the Earth revolves around the Sun. I can only imagine what that is now. Probably 1 in 5 think the Earth is flat, I assume.
I went to a private school in the US, and my middle school geography teacher made us learn every country's position on a map. I am almost positive she did this just so that we wouldn't fit the stereotype shown in this video.
0:09 this dude was confirmed to be a fake, he edits the response to make people look like idiots, most of them gives reasonable answers
