Inspect the rubber seal on your trunk, and inner doors, the rubber weather stripping often goes out due to age, no clue if newer honda's will last longer but the rubber gets brittle. I've seen trunks where its so brittle that just shutting the trunk is enough to begin to put holes in it when these cars are 15 years old. The weather stripping that runs from windshield to the rear pillars is not cheap, idk if you've gotten a quote for it but don't be surprised if it's over $400, most private shops can't even get it so you may have to go through dealership. I had a honda that I just put store bought weather stripping in that pocket on the windshield to cover up the brackets. I got half inch, 1 inch and 1 1/4th inch weather stripping and spent an hour or so making it look good and cutting everything. Inspect the hand brake since people often times will rest there knees against it if they're bigger, wearing it out rapidly or breaking the cable. Double check the AC system too, one or two seasons without the condenser is enough to destroy your top liner due to the crappy glue they used. And get OEM wipers, just replace the wiper's blade! Honda reliability for me means the same things break on every single honda.

Also for suspension, get the coilovers and see what is bad while youre under there so you know what to replace instead of spending time and money diagnosing issues.
Just a heads up, the way they painted the car is exactly how Honda instructed it to be painted for the clear coat warranty extension. They didn't allow for removal of the windshield or any trim. I ran into the same problem when i got my hood, roof and quarter panels repainted. All those trim pieces were destroyed, partially due to them being frail from the age of the vehicle. The trim pieces along the left and right side of the roof were bent and the rubber pieces were chewed up, same with the piece you complain about at the top of the windshield.
Wait until the FD2 and paint the whole car if you decide to keep it but I'd try to hot potato this thing while the 8ths are still commanding decent money
What’s the paint code? NH731P for the type R probably… the civic is different, nighthawk black pearl? 731p has a little bit of blue pearl in it so you can get away with not blending in the shade. In the sun the pearl will pop with fresh clear. The biggest thing will be the gloss level with fresh clear. I paint at a Honda dealership in Atlanta. Shame you aren’t closer, I could hook you up.
Your strut top bearings are squeaking. You can replace that with a suspension upgrade. Mine clicks and pops on hard turns at slow speeds. You need to also check your motor mounts. That could be the cause of the shutter you feel shifting. Mine does it at slow speeds in 1st and 2nd. I also had my motor mounts replaced with the Hasport mounts, but haven't changed the bottom mount yet.

Then you can do the work yourself, parts and your labor instead. I've done a lot of it. Not hard just time, parts and torque specs.
Paint is easy fix, Claybar, compound and heck you can even get away with claybar and using polish. Honda paint corrects so easily. German nightmare is a pain to correct Those are little stuff bro. Fa5 prices are wild on marketplace at the moment
Honestly I think it worked out in your favor. Now you can get the windshield and rubber trim replaced under insurance since the hurricane damaged the glass. And the repaint too. I know people are saying to forget about the stock parts since your are getting the conversion, so just paint the new stuff. But IMO, you want the stock parts in good shape. But you don’t want to pay twice. And you don’t need to. I heard you say in the last video that you don’t want to go through insurance because it’ll raise your rates. First of all, why have insurance then? Use it for very expensive fixes. Second, rates don’t go up from comp claims. Only from collision.
Basically. Use insurance to get a new windshield (which will come with new top and side trim and needs to come out anyway to paint the roof), and paint the damaged spots. PDR the rest and do a paint correction (you did the FK8). Then do your conversion and pay to paint that stuff. Now you have a mint car, converted. And mint stock parts. And you only had to pay for PDR and painting the new conversion parts.
Keep all the oem parts. To me it’s the best way to sell it in oem condition. Be thankful you don’t have the mass clear coat issues this generation has.
I paid 14,700 for mine with 60k I have one dent but when it comes to washing and drying you can easily swirl the paint without proper techniques. Save your money get everything you need then paint. I did a quick eBay oem parts build and just for the front it will cost about 6,500-7,000 without a hood roughly. It’s gotten really expensive
I got an 08 FG2, and it’s the cleanest 8th Gen you’ll see on the roads, but it still has some swirl marks and spots. The Honda paint on these was just not good. The Florida sun is just gonna bake that clear coat too.
I feel like all 8th gens pull to the right no matter what lol. can never get suspension to feel right but i also have 190k miles also PUT AN LOUD INTAKE ON IT! get a hybrid racing intake and flashpro with vtec at 4800 its a game changer the drivability and sound overpowers any rough edges with the car
That missing side trim on the windshield is a common problem with 8th gen civics. Im sure any 8th gen civic you see on the road has that piece missing because over time they just do not like to stay on.
Maybe I’m confused, once you do the conversion why do you need the old parts? To make it “original” later? It’s a civic and it’s an Si not like a Type R, so I don’t think we are dealing with a future classic car, but who knows. I think for me, I’d just get the conversion parts, paint those and sell the OEM parts as is, I wouldn’t be storing that stuff for years.
Paint the hood too. You never know when you would want to convert it back to original to sell it or whatever . If you’re going that far, I would just paint the whole car all over again the right way. Go to Firestone and pay the $200 for alignment as long as you own the car.
Nice car man. I have the exact same thing but 2 door coupe si. Just replace what needs to be replaced. I had to do quite a bit to mine but long story short, they’re great cars!!!
FYI that extra cupholder in the center console isn't a change from the 2022 to 2023 model year. All automatic models (2022 to 2024) get the extra cupholder while the manual models don't. Why? I have no idea.
Cam I'd just do everything at once when it comes to the painting, if you can help it. Also I have an HKS legamax and it has no drone. My buddy has the same exhaust with the prl dp/fp and his also doesn't drone if that's what you're looking for.
It’s a 15yr old car. All the issues you listed off - not a big deal at all. Paint - well, ALL paint seems to suck and I would expect a full detail when getting ANY car to see if you can bring back some of the paint. Also - suspension and tires would also be one of the first replacements on an older car. I just feel like you were expecting this to be immaculate yet - its a 15yr old car - its going to show some wear and tear that will need to be taken care of. Just remember why you bought it - for a DD; not to be a showroom car. Regardless everything other than paint - easy fixes man - and like others have said - maybe wait till you get ALL the parts before you look to paint etc - so its all painted together.
A lot of that gen Civics had paint recalls for the hood, roof, and truck lid. After a couple of years the paint would start to crack and flake. Especially in the hotter states.
I heard from a few people that the midpipe from AWE comes down to low and if you’re lowered, it bangs on everything. They said backing out a driveway is a PITA bc you always scrape it going down.
What I would personally do, is paint is not cheap. I would not paint what you are going to replace with the FD2 Conversion to me it just seems like you can save that money for the parts for the FD2 conversion in my opinion. Then you can sell or store those old body parts you might not use and they might have those scratches on them but I would just spend that money on the FD2 Conversion and just paint what you will be keeping at the moment like the roof obviously, pillars etc. Also a video on Marco’s RSX would be cool
Car is 15 years old, ceramic coatings weren’t even a thing then lol. All of that is typical. Swirls and PDR fixes all the non hurricane damage. I’d say get it all fixed Incase you decide to sell later.
Save the stock parts as they are. Maybe do what you can on your own with a bit of polish and touch up paint if you really want to. In my opinion you should have them paint it all with the new parts on it and use that money to get the whole thing done over.
leave it alone until you get the parts dont waste your money fixing things that arent staying on the car, honestly you probably only notice the damage up close
Hi Cam (and fam), greetings from Europe lads :D. When it comes to advice what to do with 8th gen .... its hard. Since you want FD2 conversion, i would say fix the roof and front glass and wait for conversion parts. In the same time you said it yourself, you dont want to cut corners with this car.....so fix it properly then :-). I would say it also depends, where you see the 8th gen after the conversion. It this going to be a forever car, like FK8? Or you will eventually restore it back to stock, sell the FD2 kit and sell the car? If you would plan to sell it, maybe you want to fix the hood and trunk as well now, for later.... . All in all, decide for your self, if you have the budget to not cut corners today, or you will address it later :-). I really wanted to comment your BRZ tire situation.... the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 vs Pilot Sport 4S the difference is not the summer/ all year....its more like Pilot Sport 4 is a sporty tire, the Pilot Sport 4S is sportier version. If you are familiar with High Performance Tires (HP) and Ultra High Performance Tires (UHP) the Pilot Sport 4 is High Performance and 4S is Ultra High Performance :-). So nothing to do with the season, they are both "summers".....at least in Europe we have it like that :D. You can find a lot of comparison videos from Tire Reviewers on YT if you want :D.
For me if I was to target an older Si gem. I’d found a 2015 Si coupe. There were so many people getting those for collectible reasons. It was the last unique Si civic ever made.
yo whats up with the passenger door fitnent to the front fender!?? wtffffffffffff. brutal 40k miles this car went through funny when you go back to the cars and bids posting the paint looks flawless
Sorry to tell you but an alignment will not fix that pull to the right it’s a common issue on these models there’s a bunch of people on forums that have replaced multiple parts trying to fix it but does not work if you’re luck it might correct it also with new tires but I wouldn’t hold my breath on it lol
You got an unmolested, low miles Si in the gen you wanted. You didn’t overpay at all. So what, it needs a polish and some PDR work. Tires need balance and it needs an alignment? It’s a 15 year old car that drove across the country. Seems normal to me.
You might’ve overpaid a bit and it’s unfortunate it was outside during the hurricane. But you still have a keeper on your hands. All minor stuff. I was waiting for you to reveal something worse
Mine had a bad cv intermediate shaft that caused a vibration after 50mph. But definitely start with tires since they are over 5years old. Also about the windshield piece go on youtube and there are cheap fixes since honda discontinued that part.
Honda paint from that era is notoriously shitty. If it wasn't (poorly) resprayed, it would probably be faded and damaged regardless. Alignment, suspension and tires are just a symptom of it being an old car. I'd assume all that stuff would need attention. The dents that weren't visible in the auction listing is the joys of buying an old car online and not being able to inspect it in person first. The hurricane damage was preventable. I dunno, you probably overpaid but it's not the end of the world. I'd do the PDR, windshield and get the suspension and tires sorted. I'd also do my own paint correction to see where it stands and then go from there.
I would do all the dent repairs and paint correction and what ever else it needs mechanically and keep it stock that way if you decide to sell it you will get top $ for it.
God damn did the previous owner wash it with 100 grit sandpaper? 😂. If I were you, I wouldn’t bother repainting/repairing the body parts that you are just going to inevitably end up replacing anyways. No need to waste money like that imo.
All the body work can be fixed with ease. I would just have the car re-cleared in some areas, then buffed and polished. the small paint-correction is no big deal... Again, people need to remember. These are HONDA'S! They have very bad clear coat from factory, and very thin body panels/sheet metal. They get dinged up super easy, and the clear goes super fast if you dont maintain it. You will not find a perfect 20 year old Honda unless it has 10k miles and was owned by a Multi-Millionaire that kept it in a garage its entire life.
@@JonHop1 Sure it can be fixed with ease but he’ll still have to pay for it. Why pay for something that you’re just gonna end up replacing anyways? Doesn’t make sense financially speaking.
@@JonHop1 Yeah those are fine, I was more answering his question on if he should repair the areas that he was gonna end up replacing with the FD2 conversion lol.

Please please please don’t paint it now it’s best to paint it all at once to it matches the best and there will be no blending needed. Right now it’s not a show car it’s a daily so just wait
Save the money and get everything done at once don’t spend money on painting it twice

Absolutely get the AWE touring with the dual phase midpipe! I have it paired to a catless downpipe and even with catless the drone is not bad at all
That missing side trim on the windshield is a common problem with 8th gen civics.
@@Superdimensional that’s a good point actually. Those parts are just going to collect dust
Good video bro. keep them cooking!
I have the awe touring with an rv6 catted downpipe with the dual phase midpipe. and there's still a bit of drone. The exhaust does get louder as well.
A lot of that gen Civics had paint recalls for the hood, roof, and truck lid. After a couple of years the paint would start to crack and flake. Especially in the hotter states.
Black color cars is the hardest to take care of. Every detail shows!
I heard from a few people that the midpipe from AWE comes down to low and if you’re lowered, it bangs on everything. They said backing out a driveway is a PITA bc you always scrape it going down.
Don’t spend the money now be patient and wait for the parts
What I would personally do, is paint is not cheap. I would not paint what you are going to replace with the FD2 Conversion to me it just seems like you can save that money for the parts for the FD2 conversion in my opinion. Then you can sell or store those old body parts you might not use and they might have those scratches on them but I would just spend that money on the FD2 Conversion and just paint what you will be keeping at the moment like the roof obviously, pillars etc.
Also a video on Marco’s RSX would be cool
smart man and left that out knowing the previous issues!
I really appreciate these cars, I'm waiting for next videos and the recovery process. It's a relic.
Car is 15 years old, ceramic coatings weren’t even a thing then lol. All of that is typical. Swirls and PDR fixes all the non hurricane damage. I’d say get it all fixed Incase you decide to sell later.
You’ll have fun making the car your own, enjoy it!!
Still slacking on pressure washer it’s a game changer mate👌🔥
That paint isn’t bad for the year of the car. Unless the camera not picking it up. Most car this year paint is peeling or Fading off.
You should’ve used a drying to lessen the chances of micro scratches
Yeah that Hurricane was rough, glad I was able to fit the 9th gen into the garage.
Your suspension squeak is sway bar end links..
Save the stock parts as they are. Maybe do what you can on your own with a bit of polish and touch up paint if you really want to. In my opinion you should have them paint it all with the new parts on it and use that money to get the whole thing done over.
The squeaking is the control arm/ joint. But that’s can be ignored for the most part
leave it alone until you get the parts dont waste your money fixing things that arent staying on the car, honestly you probably only notice the damage up close
What detergent do you use on wash that giant Woolly Mammoth drying towel?
King Cam is back y’all ❤
yo whats up with the passenger door fitnent to the front fender!?? wtffffffffffff.
brutal 40k miles this car went through
funny when you go back to the cars and bids posting the paint looks flawless
Apexi N1 is the most subtle exhaust. Spoon exhaust too.
Mine had a bad cv intermediate shaft that caused a vibration after 50mph. But definitely start with tires since they are over 5years old. Also about the windshield piece go on youtube and there are cheap fixes since honda discontinued that part.
The main price was because the mileage but it is still an amazing car. Mechanically sound except the suspension lol
It will be running mint after it’s all fixed
The longevity of the car will pay for it self.
Wait to get all your parts then take care of the bodywork/paint so everything blends.
Hey I live in Florida as well, just bought a 25 civic si, was wondering if you would like to drive it, I got it 3 days ago so it’s stock.
For the hood I would suggest just waiting for FD2R parts
Should've bought that wife a vehicle you got a kid now bro
I believe he got rid of the brz car note for that exact reason. It’s coming I’m sure
Where did this car come from? Is that a MA inspection sticker on the windshield?
Holy crap that’s a 2012 inspection sticker 😂
Just wait until you put all the parts on
Than paint all at once 1 time
save money
Cam I bought a battery operated skil leaf blower it's on sale now for 110 bucks from 200 Amazon it's amazing
Do the parts now. Whenever the FD2 parts come u deal with them. You will feel better
I would do all the dent repairs and paint correction and what ever else it needs mechanically and keep it stock that way if you decide to sell it you will get top $ for it.
what's the fun in a stock 8th gen?
suspension creeking really doesn’t matter. the car is not extremely modern, i have never got an old si that didn’t have some worn suspension
Did you wash the car with the same soap water that you used for the wheels/tires?
Track day/ street build?? That’d be cool to see you do first track day with fa5 they are known to be solid predictable track cars 👀
I'd do all the bodywork in one shot. I'd also consider having the whole car sprayed if you're doing a lot of painting 👍🏻
NGL these are simple wear and tear issues. I would still buy this car with this issues especially since it only has 40k miles on it
I wouldnt care about aesthetics with a 8th gen id just be cooking up that k series under the hood lol
Get the HybridRacing exhaust for the fk8. Sounds amazing and its valved
@@Tanner_Teves Well yeah he shouldnt waste his time on areas he is replaced, but I am more talking about the roof and some of the quarter panels.
@@JonHop1 Yeah those are fine, I was more answering his question on if he should repair the areas that he was gonna end up replacing with the FD2 conversion lol.
That kinda marks have “automatic car wash” written all over it.
I tell u right now 8th had paint recall on clear coat and hood and fenders u get these cracks they called crow feet’s look it up the worst part about it is the black was the color that get the worse clear coat fade and if u ever waxed your car it stay on the crow feet’s cracks and stay white so u see it more I had recall done on my fg2 they fixed it but I repainted my whole car after a different color
Please please please don’t paint it now it’s best to paint it all at once to it matches the best and there will be no blending needed. Right now it’s not a show car it’s a daily so just wait
Cars and bids is no different than any other used car dealership. Should have had a pre-purchase inspection done.
No need to waste money on the hood
I’d just wait for paint till you have the the FD2 body kit
