Tbh gravepact effects totally suck, but also playing straight into them with no answers isn’t the smart play 😂 great commentary and deck building tribalkai!
Of course, there is an answer for everything, but you have to find it first. Some strategies simply have major weaknesses. A Sacrifice deck is just a bad matchup for Voltron decks. Apart from that, one answer would not have been enough. Liliana, Tevesh, Grave Pact, Yawgmoth (one of the strongest black cards in my opinion) and the filled graveyard. The game was simply over. And I found the understandable reaction not really salty ...
True, which is why it would've been a good idea for removal to be included in the 99. However, it is also possible that removal for Grave Lact was in the 99, but was not fortunate enough to draw it or tutor for it.
I absolutely hate seeing gravepact effects when I am playing. However, it just means I have to look for an answer. Sometimes that means finding removal, or just player removal lol I don't think you did anything wrong though. They certainly were being dumb by just slamming their single creatures into a gravepact effect though. I just kept thinking, whyyyyy.
They were either desperate to make me sac Blood Artist or they just weren’t thinking. Grave Pact is a nightmare to play against but, like you said, all you have to is remove it.
Gravepact effects are very strong, but you want to know what's stronger? Free, repeatable sacrifice outlets. Ashnod's Altar was the culprit this game just like every other game lol. Without it, you could have only sacrificed one-to-three creatures a turn, only on your turn, and not get extra mana to boot. And these cards can be answered with any number of things, they don't have hexproof or indestructible; no doubt even the mono red Daretti has Spine of Ish Sah in the 99. The salty guy was on Rafiq, and we all know how frustrating it can be to face Gravepacts while on a voltron strat; shame he couldn't keep the salt down, though. Disgusting game, tribailkai. See you in the next one.
Bant is littered with interaction so the only excuse for not using it there was bad luck in not drawing well. Ashnod’s Altar probably is the best target just in case we’ve got some infinite deaths combo in the deck or something. I don’t think they knew that we had Yawgmoth in hand.
I absolutely love your gameplay, you're fantastic! I honestly hate it when people complain about powerful enchantments when they're playing in colors that can get rid of them! At a certain point, its their fault for not running removal or wasting it on targets that don't do anything.
I think I've been watching your videos for years at this point and I have to say, if there's one thing I've learned, it's that I'm glad I never bothered with MTGO. Seems like damn near every video I watch it's people scooping way too early, or dumping a box of salt on their keyboard. Gravepact is definitely something you don't want to see, ESPECIALLY with something like Rafiq, but.. as you and others have said, they're in the right colors to deal with it. Might've just been unlucky, but that's not the card's fault. People gotta chill.
It’s a damn shame that experiences like this keep you away from MTGO. I’d be lying to you if I said these things weren’t a common occurrence. As much as people love to complain about Wizards, these issues lie at the feet of those individual MTGO users. And I’m sure they’ll be the first ones to complain when there’s no one left to play with them.
@@tribalkai YES. Tbh I looked through the playlists briefly but there’s…a lot. Keep up the good work! I share the videos with my playgroup every day to feed the algos.
I run a deck with a similar theme, but Cleric tribal with Orah, Skyclave Heirophant. I don't know why people ignore the set up pieces for Aristocrats...
On one hand, the Gravepact effect would be miserable. On the other few hands, two players had access to mass enchantment removal, Bant/Simic. They all had access to mass artifact removal. Bant also has access to sacrifice hate, Sigarda, Host of Herons, Angel of Jubilation. 9/10 times, unless I am playing a very specific deck, if white and green are in it, at least those two cards are going in. Board interaction doesn't always win games, but it does let you play games or at least come back. I think an issue that I see a lot is that people always want another player to deal with the board state.
Wow, the player with 10+ treasures from Smothering tithe and in BANT COLORS complaining about ... Grave Pact? Yeah, we've all had games with bad draws and hard counters . But considering he used that early trigger'd Cyclonic Rift ? Welp... Such a Vulgar display of power. See you next video.
Rift was used way too early. If I see Tevesh as a commander, I’m gonna assume there’s sacrifice and grave hate cards in the deck. On top of that he impulse protected Tithe vs a…Chaos Warp? On top of that, Bant is the best color combo to deal with enchantments, and strong at card draw, and even countering. You did nothing wrong, the guy built Uber tron and bitched about a counter play. It makes no sense to get salty when using Rift before you’re ready to kill someone unless you’re forced to so you can survive.
Seemed like a newer player to me. Newer players get mad about things that veteran players just don’t. Mill is a good example of that. New players tend to hate having their cards milled and they also hate Grave Pact effects. They need to learn that interaction is part of the game. I went through it myself. Never acted like that though.
I think with the gravepact stuff It makes you more archenemy rather than ‘Don’t touch me or I’ll do X to make you sac all your creatures’ since the player will do it eventually anyways. I think the Rafiq swing with the sword was actually a good move since you either sac the artist or the sword trigger would kill it. I’m more surprised with simic and bant at the table and there was little removal.
The lack of removal was the key take away here. Like I said in the commentary, there’s an argument to be made for forcing us to get rid of the Artist there. They did have to be willing to lose their Commander though and apparently that did annoy them. I thought the play was pretty predictable myself.
Grave Pact is an unpleasant card in itself. Decks that play it are usually able to sacrifice creatures for value. For a Voltron deck, which in my opinion is currently very difficult to play anyway, a Grave Pact effect is a disaster.
Yeah that’s why it’s important to run removal. He could’ve bought themselves some more time if he’d waited on that Cyclonic Rift. Outcome might have been the same but you’ve got to expect that your opponents are going to do things that are not good for you and plan accordingly.
@@tribalkai Or the Rafiq player directly assessed you as his biggest threat and didn't want to cut the other two players too much. He had no carddraw, so he had to topdeck answers, player removel was effectively impossible for rafiq after the Grave pact. In the end you have to say, very strong and nice Tevesh/Tymna deck with the expected reaction of the opponents.
I wouldn’t call that getting salty. IMO, There was legitimate complaint over that. There being potential answers for something doesn’t make someone’s opinion any less relevant. You said you don’t blame them for leaving and acknowledge that it wasn’t fun for them, then title the vid about them being salty. Put yourself on the other side of that and I almost guarantee an almost equal response.
Very cool game! too bad for the salty scrub.. Imagine playing a oneshot machine with proeverything shroud ecc and get salty when you have to sac it... oooof. Grave pact and sac strategies are the bane of my existence as a godo player, but i dont give a f if i take the sac.. its a casual fun format, why people get frustrated when shit happen? Just accept the defeat and go to game 2!
Not expecting your opponents to just take the hits and ultimately lose to you is the key advise here. Go into a game thinking that they’re going to try and stop you. That’s the whole point of MTG after all.
i think that people end up getting upset with decks, not necessarily the ones you bring but i mean in general, because theres no "turn zero" or "worst possible" conversations. like having that sorta conversations to explain what you sorta want to expect in game is vital to having fun in edh. thats not possible with on mtgo or atleast its not easy to do.
No edict effects isn’t something I’ve ever heard come up in a turn zero conversation. I think it’s way too specific. Some people put too much stock in winning and get mad when they can’t win. I think some players want to just be allowed to play their deck too. Fine for some, but I’m not about to let Rafiq with a bunch of mana and haste do whatever it wants.
@@tribalkai It wasn't to criticize your gameplay, just a comment in general on why people could get mad or salty about the game. Not going to throw a plug but theres a show that have a great turn zero where they explain strategies of their decks and go into the worst possibles.
