@grassgrows8 Probably more to do with the lack of a mic. They would need to add in some kind of auxiliary mic attachment for the switch for the voice commands, and because something like that isn't too subtle like it was in the DS it would probably break the immersion 😅
@3amhellbeast Technically, the Switch has a mic feature. You can try it out yourself by plugging in non-mic earbuds into the Switch, play fortnite, then talk and see your mic activating on the lobby or even during gameplay. No other game enables this feature if I recall. It IS doable but Nintendo doesn't utilize their games to enable mic features

i got one on sale for that reason. never played with it though, because i had a tamagotchi ds game that i preferred. BUT that tamagotchi did come with the tamagotchi movie which i LOVED so i guess it was worth it.
I got really obsessed with becoming the best at the obedience trials. I found strats online where instead of using the similarly sounding sit/stand you used one/two and kept adding new tricks as a number, skipping seven for sounding like six. This was purely to get around how bad the DS mic was at understanding what was said.
"when was the last time you fed your nintendog" yep...and that's why I put off watching this video for 3 days. I knew it'd go there. Now i'm crying, thanks
When I was a kid I got the lab version and picked a black lab and named him Sammy, which was the name of my family’s black lab mix at the time. I still have my game and play it every once in a while. He was a very good dog, and I miss him. But it also makes me happy to see a little virtual Sammy run around ❤️
wow, this video is almost as good as the multiple Academy Award™ Nominated film The Holdovers (2023), starring Paul Giamatti, Da'Vine Joy Randolph and Dominic Sessa.
DUDE..I have memory issues, but I totally had Catz and Dogz on my desktop as a child! I forgot all about it. Thank you for reminding me that my life is total crap and I once felt joy but it was so long ago that I can’t even remember how it felt.
I also have a tamagotchi in my adult software engineer work bag, she’s dead and I keep her there as reminder of my Huberis that I thought I had the attention span
When I was on swim team as a kid, I used to attend these massive swim meets at naval colleges. EVERYONE there my age was rocking a DS with Nintendogs. At least a hundred kids all playing at the same time. It was magical. I unlocked every kind of dog available- thankfully before DS’s were banned for the PictoChat parties getting too crazy.
The Lilo and Stitch Sandwich Stacker mention caught me off guard. Definitely a big one for me back in the day along with others like Codename Kids Next Door: Flight of the Hamsters, and Mr. Meaty: Treasures of the Deep.
I loved this game so much, and I bought the 3DS version “Nintendogs + cats” and my only disappointment was the loss of the paths for walks. Nice video as always! Love the content!
When I was a kid I played this game religiously. Checked on my puppies every day, fed them, put them in a hotel before I had to leave them alone for a while, the whole thing. Then, one tragic day, as often happens with DS carts when you're 7, I misplaced it. I tore up the house. I was inconsolable at the loss of my beloved puppies. To this day, they haven't been found. Thank you for forcing me to relive my trauma and making me feel guilty for it!
Petz might not have been the most aesthetically pleasing but they are SUPERIOR to all sim pets in personality and have personality coding that is still somewhat of a mystery today. The petz series is what taught me computer file systems downloading breeds, clothing, and toys the community made themselves.
As an adult I finally was able to buy a copy of Nintendogs I’ve been playing for months now off and on. My childhood dreams are fulfilled, also I am fairly allergic to dogs, I used to have one before I knew better. Nintendogs will have to be my outlet for life.
i never got rid of my nintendogs. i pick the game back up every now and then and recently got back into a nintendogs binge, so this video is mad coincidence for me lmao. i'm 29 and still feel attached to my dogs and will probably care for them until the game cards no longer work.
I lost my nintendogs when I was little and my favourite dog was a corgi named Percy. Without FAIL everytime my mom would say the word purse, she'd follow it up with "Poor Percy" and it made kid me feel so guilty. I did eventually find it and I still go on to take care of Percy from time to time to make up for the years of neglect.
The playing Nintendogs under your covers as a kid is so real, I remember one time where I was trying to train them but it was in the middle of the night and I had to keep whispering louder and louder so the DS could pick up my voice lol and it was nerve-wracking, I didn’t want to wake my parents up 😂😂
GOOD LORD what a core memory unlocked when i saw the Catz and Dogz covers holy crap ive not thought about those games in ages between this and the MLP horse raising game I was set on pet sims for a long while
last I saw, there was a pretty robust modding scene for those games. Turns out you can make just about anything out of a collection of spheres. And they can successfully interbreed
I wheezed laugh during the obedient trial bit, took me back to my frantic nine year old self who was just screaming at my dog to sit! Got in trouble once for yelling because my dog wouldn't perform any of the tricks.
Nintendogs was one of those completely arbitrary things in my childhood that affected me so much simply because I didn’t have it. I wanted nintendogs so bad I took the nintendogs book from my school library when I was like 8.
This video made me break out my old copy of Lab & Friends, and a couple of the dogs had been named after my first two dogs, who have both since passed away, and it was really nice to see them again. I made sure they all got fed and watered, got a bath, and got petted, and then I saved and turned the game off. Then you got to the bit about the Pet Hotel, and I went "yeah... I should probably drop them off there" and turned the game on to do just that. Turns out I had a fourth dog at the Hotel, so I brought him out and petted him after dropping off my other three dogs, and then went back to try and drop him off. Turns out you can't drop off all of your dogs, so one of them always has to stay alone at home. What this means for Eddy, though, is that he never could have put his dog up at the Dog Hotel before going to Orlando for the weekend, so that one's on Nintendo.
omg dogz!! i had completely forgotten about those little guys! their designs were weird but their idle animations and reactions were really cute actually, it was too easy to get attached haha
Jokes on you guys I actually deleted my Nintendogs save when I was done with the game as a child and cried about it, and your guilt trip intro definitely had no effect on my psyche.
Man, I would not shut up until I got Nintendogs. I was so dog-obsessed as a little girl this game was MADE for me. I think I was eventually able to borrow a friend’s DS and rented the game, so the heartbreak of saying goodbye was even more devastating 😢
We had both the dogz & catz 2 on our pc when I was younger. It was cool to have the weird little cat or dog hanging while you did stuff on the computer. I remember installing them on every new pc my mom bought, until they were too old to work. Not all dogs looked quite that creepy, the cats looked slightly better overall, probably because it was released a little later. Really though, it was a program that was meant to run 24/7 on your pc, in the background, and along side your other programs, while also interacting with you and your mouse movements, ambitious for the mid 1990s. Considering how long ago it was, I wouldn't expect the graphics to be very good. Most full pc games didn't even have good graphics. 1:39
I remember moving to Chicago in 2007 and my grandma went EVERYWHERE trying to find a DS and the Nintendogs game to give me for Christmas… they were sold out everywhere. She did eventually find one (probably the last pink DS left in the city tbh) and I opened it on Christmas morning so happy. This video just unlocked that really good memory.
10:33 eyyy Lilo & Stich Sandwich Stacker mention. I played the hell outta that. Also, when a light bulb appears above the dog you can drag it and the dog can eat the lightbulb as a treat!
My Tamogatchi died in the car during a family road trip. It was in my bag in the far back of the car, just far back enough to be impossible to grab but not impossible to hear beeping nonstop as its life faded over several minutes. I would've sworn back then I could hear my dad grinding his teeth in annoyance at the beeping.
3:30 i have not ever seen a more niche relatable aspect to my life, then when they showed a clip of Sly Cooper from 2006 then explained how they had a PS2 for much longer than most kids 😅 stay out of my diary Burback!
no fr the sly cooper cameo was such a shock. i also still have my ps2 as a 26 year old and it’s probably one of my most prized possessions as its in pristine condition since i’ve had it in 2004 😭
Nintendogs, the game that turned us all into professional dog trainers! Who needs real dogs when you can have virtual ones that can win competitions and earn money for your dream apartment in space?
For some reason, I still have my Nintendo DS and all my games. I’ve had it for…. Maybe 15 years? It’s survived 5 moves. We’re supposed to get snow tonight here so I guess it’s time for me to check in on all my nintendogs lol.
I love Nintendogs! I spent hundreds of hours in Dachshund & Friends. I had 3 huskies, all different. Marila, Juta, Ati. Obedience boss girl, agility star, and disk catching champ. They all were great at everything but had their own individual strengths and, as I like to believe, preferences. In-game time spent with each dog was in the 10s of hours. That’s hours individually playing, petting, training them. I love my nintendogs. I recorded a song on that music player for them. I believe I unlocked most of the toys too, besides some exclusives. I loved my nintendogs. I really miss them.
I LOVED this game as a kid! I also remember having the Windows Cats and Dogs as well. Another one of my favorite pet sims was the original Petz on DS where you play as a kid who gets their first dog and teaches it tricks, how to walk on a leash, and like house etiquette (couldn't think of another rule). I think I replayed that 3 or 4 times and I'll NEVER forget how my little sister wanted to play the game so she took it from me and DELETED my og dog that was a beagle named Brownie. I still haven't forgiven her lol (I mean I have but that is a VERY distinct memory). Also I still have Nintendogs and the nintendogs for 3ds and I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of them because they were absolutely two of my favorite games as a kid and this video is making me want to go check onto them😅
I’m an 06 kid so the hype around Nintendogs was kinda low when I was old enough to have a DS, but this really reminds me of the feature in Pokémon X&Y where you could similarly feed and play with your Pokémon. It was really emotionally engaging as a child and was a core memory for me
Man, blast from the past! I loved playing the old Dogz and Catz PC games. I may still have a copy of Dogz II or 3 shoved in a box somewhere. I also used to play the Nintendo 3DS Petz Bunnyz game all the time as well.
I remember getting this from my neighbors daughter as a hand me down. She played it when she was a kid and used a game shark to get max money so my experience was just using the most expensive toys and games and running over the dogs with the bowser car 😂😂
I'm genuinely so happy to get this video in my feed!! I've been playing nintendogs + cats lately for that sweet sweet nostalgia, so it makes me happy to see a review for the older version of the game I grew up with. I remember when I had the chihuahua version for my DS and my most favourite dog was a sheltie named Nibbles. He was literally good at everything, especially the tricks competition, and I remember being excited to show them off at school to my friends. Well when I did, they immediately thought my dog's name was "Nipples" and made fun of my dog all day, I was so upset about it that I bought an entirely new dog that looked the same and named it "Kibbles" and did the whole training over again just because a few of my friends made fun of my original dog. I look back on those days and laugh because of how far a length a kid will go to not feel shame over something so petty LOL
Im in college and my dad got my a DS and Nintendogs for Christmas. I genuinely forgot how amazing this game was and Im so glad other people appreciate it!
this makes me want to dig out my old copy of nintendogs and cats and stop in on my old pets. my brother and i shared a copy of the game , so we each got to adopt one pet. great memories.
Absolutely everyone at my elementary school either had or wanted this game. When I watched the cool older kids get their huskies and german shepherds I knew it had to be incredible. And I was right Nintendogs was the best game ever made
Seeing as we're all sharing our most visceral Nintendogs memories... I had a whole little family of corgis and labs (also named after foods) that I checked in on every *single* day without fail. I even taught my mum how to play the game for the nights when I was at sleepovers and whatnot. Then, one day, my cousin came over to my house while I was at school. To my horror, I returned home to find he had SOLD EVERY LAST PUPPY I OWNED and replaced them all with miniature pinschers. Goodbye, Oreo. So long, Chippy. Maybe we'll meet again, Muffin...
Can someone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me what game is on 3:32 ? I remember playing it with my late childhood friend and i wanted to try playing by it myself and relive old childhood memories.

@@Aros4I think it’s because those are 2 of the names suggested so we just used them instead of coming up with new ones lmao
@@Aros4 it must be a universal experience
"one day your nintendog went to bed not knowing they wouldn't wake up again" - this hurt my soul
eh. that's everbody
truly incited a visceral reaction out of me. i verbally cried "noooooo!!"
my sister told me not to abandon nintendogs because the game makers programed the dogs so well that they have feelings, yes I was traumatized.
Finding out the tamagotchi would be $30 today is actually insane
With how toy companies are now, that's pretty spot on.
"Adjusted for inflation that's about $30 today"
Ah that's why my poor ass family never got me one.
I remember I got one at some point, but it might as well have been called “Anxiety Egg” for all the good it did me, lol
Edit: You really didn’t miss anything
i got one on sale for that reason. never played with it though, because i had a tamagotchi ds game that i preferred.

"when was the last time you fed your nintendog"
yep...and that's why I put off watching this video for 3 days. I knew it'd go there. Now i'm crying, thanks
When I was a kid I got the lab version and picked a black lab and named him Sammy, which was the name of my family’s black lab mix at the time. I still have my game and play it every once in a while. He was a very good dog, and I miss him. But it also makes me happy to see a little virtual Sammy run around ❤️
the fun thing is that you could "feed" the dog the light bulb when teaching them a trick so that the dog would learn faster
I knew about the lightbulb but not that it made them learn faster. Interesting.
Talk about consuming knowledge...
what a throwback to people shipping ted and archie from this game on tumblr
Tumblr never ceases to be fucking weird lmao.
I thought I recognized them from somewhere! 😂
They used to flirt with eachother tho
we are weird but you dont get it i remember a line like "you make me feel like a man" what DOES that even MEAN @@Cessate

That little groove moment to the pet supplies shop music unlocked a core memory for me.
wow, this video is almost as good as the multiple Academy Award™ Nominated film The Holdovers (2023), starring Paul Giamatti, Da'Vine Joy Randolph and Dominic Sessa.
DUDE..I have memory issues, but I totally had Catz and Dogz on my desktop as a child! I forgot all about it. Thank you for reminding me that my life is total crap and I once felt joy but it was so long ago that I can’t even remember how it felt.
Those games ruled but it’s amazing looking back now at those character designs.
I also have a tamagotchi in my adult software engineer work bag, she’s dead and I keep her there as reminder of my Huberis that I thought I had the attention span
This is the best thing I've read all day.
😂😂😂💀
You’re literally carrying your sins oh my god
When I was on swim team as a kid, I used to attend these massive swim meets at naval colleges. EVERYONE there my age was rocking a DS with Nintendogs. At least a hundred kids all playing at the same time. It was magical. I unlocked every kind of dog available- thankfully before DS’s were banned for the PictoChat parties getting too crazy.
pictochat went CRAZY. I remember when parents started getting paranoid about kids getting creeped on via streetpass lol
I loved making Pictochat animations. Proto flipnote studio
The Lilo and Stitch Sandwich Stacker mention caught me off guard. Definitely a big one for me back in the day along with others like Codename Kids Next Door: Flight of the Hamsters, and Mr. Meaty: Treasures of the Deep.
My name is Van, I’m not sure if your name is also Van but I noticed your username is Van5195 and I thought that was cool.
Matt's Kung-Fu Rama from the Lizzie McGuire page was also top tier.
Mr meaty!!!! Thanks for unlocking a memory for me
I loved the sandwich stacker game
Is there a place where you can still play that sandwich game?? I would play it right now tbh
I loved this game so much, and I bought the 3DS version “Nintendogs + cats” and my only disappointment was the loss of the paths for walks.
Nice video as always! Love the content!
The tiny ruff at 1:14 shattered my little heart into a thousand pieces 😥
ive had this game since it came out and i never knew u were supposed to put them in the dog hotel,, i thought that was just extra dog storage omfg
TIL 😂😂
Same, I used it to rotate my seven dogs 😫
I also thought of it as dog storage lmao
I have no memory of the dog hotel, guess I just overlooked it because I remember crying and panicking over not being able to feed my nintendogs
I walked my Nintendogs today, honey!! I’m different
I’m 28
Im 19 and walked my Nintendogs last night
I still pick mine up every so often too 🙈 I'm 27
last week 🤣
curious if you're using the original or the 3DS version
I just take Allegra and get to enjoy the company of pets now. 😼
@@thelokifilesWith allergies these medications help with mild stuff, this is great for you. But we don't know the severity of their allergy.
i never got rid of my nintendogs. i pick the game back up every now and then and recently got back into a nintendogs binge, so this video is mad coincidence for me lmao. i'm 29 and still feel attached to my dogs and will probably care for them until the game cards no longer work.
Nintendo gang!
that's so cool!
I love that ❤
RIP peanut, gone but never forgotten. Maxed out in disc competition/stamina and no other skills ilysm
The bond formed with these digital pets was surprisingly strong and lead to some heartwrenching goodbyes.
I totally loved watching The Holdovers! I watched it three times in the movie theatre. Probably one of my new favourite films.
7:30 "hold on... *vibin'*" that music is pretty vibe tho ngl
TIL that the background of the femboy Friday song is Nintendogs.
Wow your mom was cruel
That’s so mean of your mom omg
The playing Nintendogs under your covers as a kid is so real, I remember one time where I was trying to train them but it was in the middle of the night and I had to keep whispering louder and louder so the DS could pick up my voice lol and it was nerve-wracking, I didn’t want to wake my parents up 😂😂
GOOD LORD
what a core memory unlocked when i saw the Catz and Dogz covers holy crap ive not thought about those games in ages between this and the MLP horse raising game I was set on pet sims for a long while
You guys are on an awesome streak of covering all my favorite childhood games. So much nostalgia. Thanks for the content.
Holy shit, you guys dug up ancient memories with the early Windows Cats and Dogs. I remember playing with them on when I was very young
Same! The way I audibly gasped when I saw that ugly little dog, that I would jump in front of a car for at the time 😂
SERIOUSLY same here! My eyes went wide. ~ "Holy -- that might be my first video game on PC period."
last I saw, there was a pretty robust modding scene for those games. Turns out you can make just about anything out of a collection of spheres. And they can successfully interbreed
When I first got this game I didn’t know you could name the dogs whatever you wanted so all my dogs were named ether Lucky, Maxwell, or Daisy.
Lucky! Maxwell! Daisy!
I wheezed laugh during the obedient trial bit, took me back to my frantic nine year old self who was just screaming at my dog to sit! Got in trouble once for yelling because my dog wouldn't perform any of the tricks.
OH MAN I LOVED DOGZ. So many memories calling that creepy little bug-eyed puppy across the screen with the little pixelated toys.
i’m high and this is genuinely one of the best funniest most well written videos i’ve seen in a long time
the holdovers references throughout this video are cracking me up
When the sponsorship hit, I was like "wtf I thought it was sponsored by The Holdovers starring Paul Giamatti"
Nintendogs was one of those completely arbitrary things in my childhood that affected me so much simply because I didn’t have it. I wanted nintendogs so bad I took the nintendogs book from my school library when I was like 8.
The Lilo and Stitch Sandwich Stacker goes hard and you will never convince me otherwise
I just bought nintendogs for my DS a week ago and have been playing every day this video couldn't have came at a better time for me
And you guys ruined it for me
Man, I would not shut up until I got Nintendogs. I was so dog-obsessed as a little girl this game was MADE for me. I think I was eventually able to borrow a friend’s DS and rented the game, so the heartbreak of saying goodbye was even more devastating 😢
SAME! And now, as an adult, I have five real dogs lol.
OH BOY A VIDEO

I do sure love The Holdovers too, Eddy! Such a great film, with so much heart. Nintendogs is cool too... i guess.

eyyy Lilo & Stich Sandwich Stacker mention.
I think my parents were relieved when my Tamagotchi was stolen from my backpack at school a couple weeks later.
3:30 i have not ever seen a more niche relatable aspect to my life, then when they showed a clip of Sly Cooper from 2006 then explained how they had a PS2 for much longer than most kids 😅 stay out of my diary Burback!
no fr the sly cooper cameo was such a shock. i also still have my ps2 as a 26 year old and it’s probably one of my most prized possessions as its in pristine condition since i’ve had it in 2004 😭
OMG!! Original Petz series mentioned!! One of the earliest games I was in love with 😭 I still open them time to time
Nintendogs, the game that turned us all into professional dog trainers! Who needs real dogs when you can have virtual ones that can win competitions and earn money for your dream apartment in space?
For some reason, I still have my Nintendo DS and all my games. I’ve had it for…. Maybe 15 years? It’s survived 5 moves. We’re supposed to get snow tonight here so I guess it’s time for me to check in on all my nintendogs lol.
that's actually nuts, good for you! i bought a new 3ds like four years ago that still works but my childhood ds lite and 3ds are gone forever lol
Archie and Teddy were 100% boning after every competition
Also I still have Nintendogs and the nintendogs for 3ds and I don’t think I’ll ever get rid of them because they were absolutely two of my favorite games as a kid and this video is making me want to go check onto them😅
I had 3 chihuahuas named Taco, Burrito, and Chip ❤️ RIP I guess bc they haven’t been fed in probably 15 years 😢
RIP
Chip? Really? Not Tostada, Sope, Torta, Flauta, or Tamale?
I’m an 06 kid so the hype around Nintendogs was kinda low when I was old enough to have a DS, but this really reminds me of the feature in Pokémon X&Y where you could similarly feed and play with your Pokémon. It was really emotionally engaging as a child and was a core memory for me
1:49 I PLAYED THIS ON MY PARENTS' COMPUTER! Thanks for the flashback, I was not expecting it!
You know Helldivers 2 is goated when it’s already gotten a Burback appearance 🙏🏻
Great video bois
OMG, i love you, Eddie and Eddie's brother. You have no idea how much i light up when i see a new video by y'all (or Drew Gooden or Danny Gonzalez).
the holdovers was incredible, it made me cry multiple times
I absolutely adore you guys' dynamic I haven't cackled this much at videos in MONTHS
Straight bangers with these recent videos hitting some of my favorite games from childhood. Love you guys and love these videos
Absolutely everyone at my elementary school either had or wanted this game. When I watched the cool older kids get their huskies and german shepherds I knew it had to be incredible. And I was right Nintendogs was the best game ever made
Thank you for giving me a reason to live for 21:27
the tangent to explain the best movie ever made is so real
The McDonald's Tamagotchi commercial made me realize I have one of those keychain toys that my granny had on her keys for years.
My favourite trick was feeding them the lightbulb when they got a trick right
I totally forgot about that!! Wow, I can hear the crunch! Lol 😂
Can someone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me what game is on 3:32 ? I remember playing it with my late childhood friend and i wanted to try playing by it myself and relive old childhood memories.
Sly Cooper, it's one of the ones in the first trilogy based on context from the video
