    Very nice playlist. Thanks.
    When it comes to adding waypoints in the MSFS World Map, I have found it best to work backwards from the destination to the arrival. This prevents the MSFS flight planner from putting waypoints in the wrong order, like you were having to deal with several times, such as 1:16:30

      @@AlphaHotelFlightSimulation I meant to say, "work backwards from the arrival to the departure." But the key concept is to work backwards along the route of flight. This seems to confuse MSFS less than working forwards.

    Excellent video - good pacing on explanation. You used SkyVector - will it work in similar fashion with Navigraph charts?

    • @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation
      @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, Navigraph charts should work fine. It really shouldn't matter what charts you use, so long as they are current. With the Working Title upgrades, I think the database on the GNS 530 & 430 are now up to date and kept up to date with the current ARINC database - so it should have the most current procedures.

    On the 430 it will tune in to a VOR and you can use the VOR on number two. However in flight Sim you cannot navigate with the auto pilot using VOR #2. I don’t know if this is the same in the real world but I would think not. The only purpose for dialing in a radial on VOR #2 is to find the cross radial that identifies the published fix or intersection. Some cases necessary for an altitude change due to a published minimum crossing altitude as noted on the chart with a flag that has a “X” in the box. Not really needed if you fly by GPS since the GPS can find the fix if you put it in your flight plan.

    • @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation
      @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aviation Trucker - all true. I think this is how it would operate on an aircraft configured like this in the real world, as most autopilots configured like this can't be switched between nav radios.
      In addition to using nav 2 for identifying cross radials, you can also use it to fly feeder routes or initial approach segments on things like ILS approaches, where you would want to use nav one to intercept the the localizer.

    Nice video. Dont people like to fly manually anymore? :-) Is there a way to set up the 530 to have GPS disabled and use the CDI? I know you mentioned a mode to associate the CDI to the Garmin but what would it show? I find sitting around as the plane flies to be boring so I'm looking for scenarios that keep me busy. I wouldn't wanna do this for 4 hour flights but ya know what I mean.

    • @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation
      @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @josephbruno6058, that's the beauty of flight sims - you can fly a whatever manner is most enjoyable for you!
      Pressing the CDI button on the bottom left of the unit will toggle the associated VOR display between VOR/LOC information and GPS information. So you can navigate using the GPS, VOR, NDB, or just visually if you want to. You can also load a flight plan in the GPS and manually fly the GPS course guidance. Just leave the autopilot off.

    Great video thank you! Is there any way that one can find the progress to a defined waypoint? (Rather than manually adding up the individual distances on the FPL legs page). Useful to calculate TOD

    • @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation
      @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think you can see cumulative distance to a defined waypoint on the GNS 430/530 like you can on the G1000, and I don't think working title's upgrades to the units changed this since they are going for accuracy in replicating the units, rather than ease of use and utility.
      PMS50 (the group that puts out the GNT 750) does have a mod that will allow the unit to do this (as well as allowing it to display DME on a localizer, among other changes,) but I haven't used it since the WT mods were released on the marketplace, and don't know if they are compatible.

    is it true that top cdi is hard wired to 530 and lower cdi is hard wired to 430? and you can not switch top cdi to work with 430

    • @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation
      @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alexander,
      On the 172 When in VLOC mode (displaying Vor information) the top cdi is wired to nav1 (which is in the 530) and the bottom cdi is wired to nav 2 (which is in the 430.)
      When in GPS mode, the top cdi will display GPS course information. This technically comes from both units, as they are linked, and nav entries into one will be carried over to the other automatically.
      The bottom cdi will always display course information from nav 2 (VOR/Loc) cannot be switched to display any GPS course information.

  • @brianplatz4081

    When I type in my VOR frequency and activate it why doesn’t my CDI come alive?

    • @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation
      @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A few things to check, Brian:
      1) Make sure the frequency for the VOR you want to use is in the active frequency position in the 530's VOR frequency box - that would be the top position/white numbers. Hit the button with the V and the up and down arrow to swap the frequencies out.
      2)Make sure the #1 nav is set to display VOR info. You can use the CDI button on the 530, or the nav/gps button above nav 1. The 530 should say "VLOC" in the bottom left corner when you are receiving VOR info, the #1 nav green "NAV" indication should illuminate, and the white "GPS" indication will go blank, and the display next to the NAV/GPS button should display a white "NAV" indication.
      3) Make sure you are in range of the VOR you are trying to receive. VORs only have a range of about 70 miles at lower altitudes (less if you are lower than 1000 ft AGL or in mountainous terrain.) If you are receiving a VOR signal, the 530 will display the 3 letter of the identifier of the station, the radial you are currently on, and the distance (if the station has DME,) below the frequency box, and the off flag on the right side of the VOR 1 display should disappear.

      Krisztian - I assume you're talking about the Working Title upgrade to the GNS 530/430. I honestly don't know if they load their own database in the system or not - I know several 3rd party FMS mods like the 787 heavy division mod and the FBW 320X do.
      I can tell you that I've flown a lot of IFR procedures (including SIDS, STARS and approaches,) with the working title products (both 530/430 and G1000 NXI,) and the procedures seem to be accurate and in line with currently published charts. This is for the US, so I can't speak to non-US procedures.

The gist of my comment was that on AVSIM forum basically a copyright\ban terror is going on against anyone who try to implement the new cycles for the GNS and I assumed that this is partly because in real life nobody uses that unit anymore. for the GTN there is a relatively new database made by a difficult hack. unofficial of course. what I do know that RXP The real GNS memory image so if I could get my hand on one from a real unit that is a few months old and not legal to fly I probably could install that on the virtual unit. anyways I would check out this working title what this is all about

    Would you be able to recommend a resource to help transition from C152 to C172 in terms of speeds and RPMs (relative to the extensive info you provided in your basic flight instruction series)?

    Also, are you aware of the great 530 / 430 “mod” that implements a decent number of the features missing from Asobos's rendition of this GPS duo?

      Michael - thanks, and glad you enjoyed it.
      Planning to put together a transition course video for the 172 (among other planes - though that will likely be the first one I tackle.) May be a while, though - as I want to finish up the Private Pilot level training on the 152 first, and still have a few videos to go there.
      Here are some rough numbers to tide you over:
      Vy = 55 KIAS
      Vy = 74 KIAS
      Vapch = 65 KIAS
      2400 RPM works out well for cruise, and will get you about 105 indicated, or about 115 true/groundspeed. Fuel burn is about 10 GPH in flight sim, a little higher than the 8 GPH the book says you should get.
      It's also not difficult to find a manual for the 172 online to get specific numbers and procedures for that aircraft. Just make sure you get a manual for the 172S, as that's the model in flight sim.

      Also, saw your mention about the mod on the 530/430. Had not heard about it before you mentioned it - but will check it out, and see about maybe doing a differences training video on it, if the author has not done so already. Looks like a good mod. @@AlphaHotelFlightSimulation yes, some missing functionality and bugs fixed. I'm glad I mentioned it then. I thought maybe you chose to focus on the 'stock' version because, well, that is the default. I have not actually tried the stock implementation as I only got MSFS in March of this year. By which time the mod has gone through many iterations and works quite well by now (and quite a bit better than stock; or so I'm told). I'm sure Asobo will eventually fix and enhance all the avionics, but at this rate it looks like it may take them some YEARS...
      BTW - if you ever start with videos for G1000, G3000, more advanced planes, etc, there are some massive improvements made by the community to those as well (e.g. Working Title in case of Garmin avionics and Citation CJ4 github.com/Working-Title-MSFS-Mods/fspackages ). So great in fact that Microsoft / Asobo hired that team and is planning on rolling their improvements into the core sim overtime ( drive.google.com/file/d/1Z6mPvucvYgVrEKpzrnJiNb-we7vO1DOb/edit )

    • @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation
      @AlphaHotelFlightSimulation  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelchomiczewski7937 , I know what you mean. Part of the reason I've enjoyed making this series is that I can use the autopilot and not hand fly everything.
      I usually focus on the "stock" versions of planes/avionics so folks don't have to go download/install a mod to be able to use the videos - but I will take a look at some of the mods that are out there. Some I may have to use (for example, the multi-engine aerodynamics in FS 2020 are horrible, but there's a good mod for the DA62 that tweaks them to where they are much more realistic. Will probably use that for multi training/DA62 checkout.)
      I am familiar with Working Title. I don't have their G1000 mod, but I've got their CJ4 mod, and it is excellent. They do good work.
