    The big problem with guys like Tristan Jass is that they just don't have the size or endurance to handle the grind of a full NBA season. He could probably turn some heads in a short sample size, but over the long haul, the law of averages wins and guys like him fizzle out.

    • @MarkDanger777

      Exactly. People think fame alone can bring them in the NBA... He might look good on TH-cam, but he'll get destroyed by any bench warmers that don't even get 1 min of play time. Finally, a good analysis of Basketball and not just talking trash about players actually telling us what they should be doing better like closing out a little bit more ball pressure that’s the type of stuff that we need to be hearing not just saying this guy is trash that guy is trash so I loved every second of listening to this, especially as a high school basketball coach. This year my team is going to be staying away from a plan a lot of zone unless we need to do it and we’re gonna be playing in your face. • @loverofhumanity
      @loverofhumanity 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      yup, its a misconception though that you cant be an elite defender if your short. In the past many undersized guys have been great defenders despite being small for their position. In fact id argue size is not the most important element of being a good defender despite popular opinion. It's actually about how good you're at being a pest and being able to move fast and have your hands everywhere, contesting everything. Giving them not an inch of seperation, breathing down their neck, also defensive awareness off the ball is vital. Regardless of size thats what makes someone an elite defender. Chris paul in his prime was a very very good defender despite being 6 ft. Patrick beverely is 6 2 but a small 6 2 and was an elite defender. What did they have in common? They were pesky. Isiah thomas contrary to what people may think was not a bad defender because he was short, he was actually simply a lazy defender if you ever watched him. Many times he would just be taking off on defense and have no energy. You have to have high energy and be pesky in order to be a great defender. Size comes secondary to that.

    Great analysis. The G league is not full of good basketball players. It’s full of the best “athletes” with size and length available. The idea is that they’ll teach them how to play because they have what they can’t teach. I played several years of semi pro ball as the “good to great player” that lacked the size and athleticism to take the next step. And by that, I mean at 6’4 I was the quickest and fastest guy on my team, could 360 dunk and that was just normal at the next level. And at the higher level like actual G League, being undersized will hurt him. We saw what happened that 1 play when a bigger stronger defensive played him aggresively, that will be extremely hard for Tristan to deal with offensively.

I played solid defense in my younger days. I always kept my feet moving and my hand out as to dictate which way the opponent was gon move. If he somehow made it to the NBA he would definitely be on the bench and would have to become some kind of 3 point specialist..Main thing though is he has a opportunity to live out his dream. (1) I question this "tryout". I wonder what level these guys as a whole played at, because tsome of them look like they played fraternity intramurals. They all play lazy, make critical mistakes on both ends, and are not polished players like you would expect from guys trying to become pros.
    (2) Jass is a good player for a pickup game, but let's get real. He cannot guard anyone, stands around, doesn't rotate. I played overseas and this guy would get eaten alive. Offensively he made some nice moves, but again, this looks like pickup ball.

From an evaluation standpoint it would be better if he pressured and then if defensive wasn’t set behind him then it looks bad on them unless he got beat point blank off the dribble. Playing it safe gets you nowhere when you’re 5’9. If he doesn’t pressure now there wouldn’t be reason for me to expect him to pressure naturally/consistently when he gets on a team.
