  • Ugears is proud to introduce the second DIY musical instrument in our collection-the Mechanical Celesta. Like the Ugears Hurdy-Gurdy, the Mechanical Celesta is both a wooden mechanical model and a functional musical instrument.
    This special musical model is a simpler version of a pianola, and includes elements of a piano, a music box, and a xylophone. There are two modes of playing the instrument. In "manual mode" when you press a key, the hammer strikes the plate and the sound of the corresponding note is heard. In "programmed melody mode" you arrange a series of boards along a rotating drum, then turn the drum as pins on each board trigger the hammers to strike the right notes.
    When you buy the Mechanical Celesta by Ugears and start to assemble it, you will find that the instructions show how to install the programming pins using the Carol of the Bells melody as an example. And it's not only because Christmas is coming. On October 5 this year it will be 100 years since the premiere of "Shchedryk" by Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych at Carnegie Hall. Today it’s known to the whole world as Carol of the Bells. The song sounds great when performed on your Mechanical Celesta by Ugears. This centennial is why we released the model this year and why it's so special to us.
    Thanks to the Mechanical Celesta's ease of use, even the smallest child or those without any prior musical knowledge can begin to play music, by striking the keys or turning the crank to produce pre-programmed melodies.
    The Mechanical Celesta from Ugears is a unique combination of design, engineering and art, and is sure to delight musicians, modelers, 3D puzzle enthusiasts and even programmers. Program known melodies into the player piano drum, or create original compositions that others can play simply by turning the crank. Your audiences will be impressed by your creativity and ingenuity as you play original music on an instrument you built yourself!

    That's an amazing model to accompany the UGears Hurdy Gurdy (Chromatic versions would also rock along with other instruments too)

      @@ugearsmodelsua Lots of new models are coming out. The Hurdy Gurdy has an ancestor called Organistrum (There should be a kit for it so it's like a Power Chord playing Hurdy Gurdy w/ 3 strings & also in a Chromatic Version) & a Banjo-Gurdy Would be cool too.

    Hello,
    Just finished assembling this model, but unfortunately de F key is out of tune. It is in fact an F#. This unfortunately causes the music to sound out of tune.

    A very clever idea, and I'm sure it's lots of fun. But I find it a bit dishonest to have background music from a real celesta.

    Hello! Many thanks for your reply. I have sanded and waxed the parts you suggest but still no luck. Is there a trick to stopping parts 19 not touching parts 1 and 5. I have taken off the chain and ensured parts 19 are well abutted to parts 18 to make the chain as narrow as possible and also waxed them but they insist on sticking! Am I missing doing something obvious? Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

      Hi! Try to wax parts a3, a4 (pages 8, 9), and part a8 (page 16).
      The entire conveyor should be well-developed.

      @@toddlevetzow9519 Hi Todd, thank you for your feedback! The rubber bands in Celesta are easily accessible - just turn the model upside-down (see page 46 of the assembly manual at ugearsmodels.com/instructions/Mechanical_Celesta_instruction_web.pdf)

      Hi! Sand down and wax parts #2 (pages #4,5,6), #1, and 5.
      After assembly, carefully develop the mechanisms shown on page #18.
      Parts #19 should not touch parts #1 and 5.

  • @HelenBall-kk1fb
    @HelenBall-kk1fb ปีที่แล้ว

    Well, here I am again! I have done all you suggest i.e.. sanding and waxing all the relevant parts, have moved it round and round as far as it will go but it still sticks. The parts which are running are quite free but then it tightens up and stops. I am sure I have assembled it correctly so far but really can't see how to get out of the problem. It's highly frustrating - any suggestions please. Many thanks.
