I've always told my children that hanging with the wrong person or making a bad decision can cost you either you're life or freedom this is a perfect example of what I've always told them.
Keep telling kids that always. Keep reminding them that true friends are *SCARCE,* whereas wrong people are only *USERS* and they don't care about their friends closest to them. When they commit serious crimes and get into trouble with the law, they can always pass the rap onto your children and let them take the blame. That is why they always have naive friends as losers ones who take the fall for them.

Susan Atkins and Tex Watson (other members of the manson family) stabbed Sharon Tate. She killed Abigail Folger and assisted in the murder of Rosemary LaBianca. Brutal, brutal murders though.

Krenwinkle was convicted for seven murders. She has spent 46 years in prison. Doing the math, that is 6.57 years per victim. That simply is not enough time. In this case, it is clear to me that anything less than dying in prison for this individual and her cohorts would be a miscarriage of justice.
The fact is that this case IS special. Pat Krenwinkel never decided to go out and commit murder. When those close to her decided to murder, she fell in with it rather than objecting or Just Saying No.

My advice to Krenwinkle: Resign yourself to your punishment for what you did all those years ago. You took a knife, raised it (your own admission), chased Abigail Folger onto the lawn of the Tate house and proceeded to slash and stab her as many times as you were able. Sticking a knife into a human body is as up-close-and-personal as it is as possible to be and you didn't care. You blame your actions on the lack of love and affection in your early life. There are millions of people in this world who don't have parents for whatever reason and never know what that kind of love is like, yet they don't go on to slaughter innocent people in what should have been the security of their home. What you did was hateful, spiteful, vicious and unforgivable. Don't ask for forgiveness where there is none. Nothing you could ever do or say in this life can compensate for the incomprehensible action you took that night. I am vehemently opposed to the death penalty and your experience and that of your fellow killers is a prime example of how to punish by permanently removing your right to freedom and you should expect nothing more from Society. Nothing you say now can undo the actions you chose to chose to take, not just on the one night but on the following day too. You make so much sense. There are just some things and the way they are did, sorry will not fix. I was around 12 yrs old when this happened, I remember the trial was something. They (the girls), laughed, sung, barked like dogs during the trial, would stand up and shout out that the judge or one of the prosecutors was a monkey or some other nonsense. They dug that hole deep.

The disastrous situation included brutal murders that terrified the entire community. There is a valid point here: 7 people suffered horribly in having their lives snuffed out but there was even more damage as all their loves ones also suffered and the society as a whole was harmed.

strawberryseason teenagers still know murder is wrong. Kids know murder is wrong. There’s a case to be made that because of their age they were more impressionable, however they still knew what they were doing was bad.
They weren't like zombies killing. They were happily leaping about torturing their victims to death while hissing hate at them. It's hard to get passed that for me. Plus, other Manson woman fled him before they got too involved and these young women too had done drugs and were looking for someone to look up too but they didn't have that element of evil in them that those who chose to stay and do his murders.
That's right there are several girls who went there for the drugs and "hippie" lifestyle, but after a few days realized how kooky/violent they were, and fled in fear of their lives!
They all loved torching and killing their victums and I remember this. They were all smiling and singing even as they went to trial. They were all just as evil as their leader and all got the death penilty. When the death penilty was reinstated they should have put all of them back on death row and executed them.

Yes. Many victims do become the predators. Doesn’t mean it is an excuse but it is an explanation. Study psych and sociology. You’ll find plenty of people who feel victimized turn into predators. She didn’t seem like a victim but she felt unloved.

arielle jods I think it’s mostly because we want to understand how some people are capable of the evil things they do, and with these interviews we can see what makes them tick, or in their minds why they do the things they do.
We can learn what not to do in life. I don't think I realized the effect childhood trauma had on human beings until time and time again I listened to stories of serial killers with abusive homes. You can't really learn much from a victims story though. And not many of them like to come forward and talk about it.
First time I ever heard from one of these women. It was short and not very focused on her life. It's what she paid and how it came about. She chose her words wisely I'm sure.

Death Toll between 1.8 to 12 Million. 1.1 million were murdered at Auschwitz During WWII. During the 1400s Gilles De Rais raped, tortured and killed hundreds of little children, mostly boys. In 1977 Kenneth Bianchi and Angelo Buono Raped and killed 10 Girls aged 12 to 28. Jeffrey Dahmer murdered and dismembered 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991. This list could continue forever, crimes like the Tate murders happen around the world everyday but no one cares unless the victims are rich famous and beautiful.

Kenneth McDuff... He was convicted 3 counts of murder and rape. He was sent to death row and was one of 20 former death row inmates paroled in 1989. He was believed to have started killing again within a few days of his release from prison. He killed 8 more women. He was eventually caught and executed on November 17,1998.
Indeed, McDuff should have been executed the FIRST time, but his three murders before his release is still less than half of the seven murders Krenwinkel was convicted of. If anything, his being released (and then killing eight more people) serves as an example as to WHY we should NEVER release serial killers.
She chose to kill a bunch of people who never did her any harm at all. Her choice, now live with the consequences. The only lesson to take from her is to choose your friends and associates wisely. Be careful who you befriend and fall in with. Had she been a bit smarter and more careful she would have avoided a con man like Manson and would probably be a grandmother today living in Florida.

Yes, assessing whether she is remorseful and whether she should get out are two different things. Some people think if you say "I think perp is remorseful" you're also saying you think they should live in Disneyland and get free cake and ice cream. It's possible for a person to be sorry and still have to do time. I'm not sure why so many people don't grasp that.
I believe Patricia Krenwinkle and Leslie van Houten are genuinely remorseful now. However, participation in such grotesque murders is totally unforgivable. Even if Patricia and Leslie, now in their seventies, were granted parole, how could they possibly begin life anew in civil society? Like Manson, prison is their only true home.

Her childhood simple primed her to be vulnerable to attention from men like Charles Manson who was a master manipulator. Charles sought out broken abused lonly females who were estranged in one way or another from their family with no support system. women that he knew he could control. He knew exactly what to say and do to make her dependant on him and trust him. She made horrible choices while she was with him but I don't think that she would have done any of those things had Charles Manson not taken over her life. You have to remember the women in Manson's cult were pimped out by Manson for favors from other men. While they were murders they were victims themselves before they took their first life at his command.

I think there is a lot more to it then we know . The first court case was sensationalized and didn't involve the worst of them all -which was Tex . Patricia was I believe the second most active participant ( after Tex ) in not 1 but 2 nights of mass murder . Tex later said it was him and not Susan who killed Sharon -I tend to believe him as this confession came many many years later . Susan Atkins was the original star witness but I believe she refused to go along with a lot of the concocted story , so they c hose Kasabian instead . I don't know but there is definitely more to the story that has been hidden.

I think Krenwinkel is a good example of how very few people are inherently evil. A person may do horrible, horrible evil things, but that level of humanity that allows them to step back and realize what they've done is what separates a criminal like Krenwinkel - who certainly does still deserve to stay in prison - from someone like Manson, who has clearly never felt remorse for any of his evil a day in his life. They are both horrible criminals, but one is someone I can see as human, and one I just can't see the humanity in at all.
Let us not forget that not very long ago her true self showed at a parole hearing. She was asked who she had harmed the most with these events. Her answer was so telling. She answered with HERSELF! I’m glad to see that Patricia is experiencing and showing remorse for what she was involved with. More than we can say about Susan. She literally said she had no regrets in her life in 2000! I know Patricia did some heinous things but it’s good to see that her life sentence is actually helping her reform and correct her. I'd like to point out something I've noticed about all of these murderers (Krenwinkel, Van Houten, and Atkins). I think I've watched all of their parole hearings and what I notice most distinctly is that they appear to be fairly businesslike and detached until they begin discussing THEIR pain and THEIR suffering. The most common refrain is that, by a variety of reasons, it either wasn't really their fault, or they weren't fully responsible for their actions. Of course...now...they claim to accept responsibility. Yet, when you ask them "why?" they always seem to blame the charisma of Charles Manson. It's not their fault. They were on drugs. Their mommies and daddies didn't love them enough. They were "lost and didn't know what to do"...and then, it always comes around to the same thing. They were "seduced" by Manson. Tricked. Brainwashed. Anyone who can buy into this argument should consider where it logically leads. After all, if fully-grown women above the age of consent, at the age where they can sign contracts legally, aren't responsible for their actions...the argument that is most forcefully made is that they don't deserve to be free individuals.

Krenwinkle was convicted for seven murders. She has spent 46 years in prison. Doing the math, that is 6.57 years per victim. That simply is not enough time. kind of wish we stopped focusing on interviewing killers and listening to their stories, and instead started focusing on the victims’ and their families’ stories.
arielle jods I think it’s mostly because we want to understand how some people are capable of the evil things they do, and with these interviews we can see what makes them tick, or in their minds why they do the things they do.
We can learn what not to do in life. I don't think I realized the effect childhood trauma had on human beings until time and time again I listened to stories of serial killers with abusive homes. You can't really learn much from a victims story though. And not many of them like to come forward and talk about it.
First time I ever heard from one of these women. It was short and not very focused on her life. It's what she paid and how it came about. She chose her words wisely I'm sure.

Kenneth McDuff... He was convicted 3 counts of murder and rape. He was sent to death row and was one of 20 former death row inmates paroled in 1989. He was believed to have started killing again within a few days of his release from prison. He killed 8 more women. He was eventually caught and executed on November 17,1998.
Indeed, McDuff should have been executed the FIRST time, but his three murders before his release is still less than half of the seven murders Krenwinkel was convicted of. If anything, his being released (and then killing eight more people) serves as an example as to WHY we should NEVER release serial killers.

I think there is a lot more to it then we know . The first court case was sensationalized and didn't involve the worst of them all -which was Tex . Patricia was I believe the second most active participant ( after Tex ) in not 1 but 2 nights of mass murder . Tex later said it was him and not Susan who killed Sharon -I tend to believe him as this confession came many many years later . Susan Atkins was the original star witness but I believe she refused to go along with a lot of the concocted story , so they c hose Kasabian instead . I don't know but there is definitely more to the story that has been hidden.

If I was in her shoes, I think the only reason for me still wanting to be released would be because that would mean that the state acknowledged that I had truly repented for what I did, that I had truly changed. You committed cold blooded murder. All it took was an order from Charlie to turn you into a killing machine. Too bad the victims are gone and you are still here.
It took quite a bit more than an order from Charlie, just as it took quite a bit more than an order from the Furher for the Holocaust to happen. It's the people who say "I could never do something like that" who worry me because they aren't aware of their own vulnerabilities, and are therefore exactly the kind of people who WOULD do that if they ended up in the same situation. If you really believe that you wouldn't have done what she did in her situation or wouldn't have been a Nazi in Germany in WW2, or a slave owner, you aught to look at some of the early psychology studies. The Stanford prison experiment is one, and the milligram experiment is another.
I'm pretty sure that these new-found 'revelations' are of no comfort to Sharon Tate, her baby, et. al. Actually it's very sad that, after 45 years of sitting and pondering, that's all you came up with.

I know I am supposed to forgive to be forgiven. But Lord it is so hard even after all these years. I was 14 when this happened and I remember thinking how horrible, being stabbed to death is horrific.

@@justice4all146 No, if you listened to any of the statements in Krenwinkel's actual parole hearings, you'd realize that her aim has not been to find the angle that gets her out or tell the parole board what they want to hear. It is to remind the victims' families that she remains remorseful and holds herself accountable. Again, she's known for a long time that she is never getting out. I mean come on, Leslie Van Houten hasn't gotten out, so why would Krenwinkel even have a prayer? This video can't be shown in a parole hearing, anyway.

I think Krenwinkel is a good example of how very few people are inherently evil. A person may do horrible, horrible evil things, but that level of humanity that allows them to step back and realize what they've done is what separates a criminal like Krenwinkel - who certainly does still deserve to stay in prison - from someone like Manson, who has clearly never felt remorse for any of his evil a day in his life. They are both horrible criminals, but one is someone I can see as human, and one I just can't see the humanity in at all.

Let us not forget that not very long ago her true self showed at a parole hearing. She was asked who she had harmed the most with these events. Her answer was so telling. She answered with HERSELF! Unbelievable!! And this was decades after the murders.
Her answer was not her victims, or their loved ones, or even her own family (and I am sure they have suffered greatly over the years too). Nah, just focused on herself. They have never stopped being focused on themselves and what they want.

I’m glad to see that Patricia is experiencing and showing remorse for what she was involved with. More than we can say about Susan. She literally said she had no regrets in her life in 2000!
I know Patricia did some heinous things but it’s good to see that her life sentence is actually helping her reform and correct her. Unfortunately it’s a wasted life because there’s no way anyone (or me!) would want to see any of the Manson family released. I’m just glad to see the prison sentence actually work for somebody.

She starts out with a complete lie when she stated this all started out between one man and one woman. By the time "Krenny" met Charlie in 1967, he already had a harem that included Mary Brunner, Squeeky Fromme and Ruth Ann Morehouse. In fact, Brunner became pregnant with Charlie's baby soon after Krenwinkel very willingly came into the group. All I am hearing from her is "me, me, me" and it is so typical of a sociopath who is going for the pity play.

I'd like to point out something I've noticed about all of these murderers (Krenwinkel, Van Houten, and Atkins). I think I've watched all of their parole hearings and what I notice most distinctly is that they appear to be fairly businesslike and detached until they begin discussing THEIR pain and THEIR suffering. The most common refrain is that, by a variety of reasons, it either wasn't really their fault, or they weren't fully responsible for their actions. Of course...now...they claim to accept responsibility. Yet, when you ask them "why?" they always seem to blame the charisma of Charles Manson. It's not their fault. They were on drugs. Their mommies and daddies didn't love them enough. They were "lost and didn't know what to do"...and then, it always comes around to the same thing. They were "seduced" by Manson. Tricked. Brainwashed.
Anyone who can buy into this argument should consider where it logically leads. After all, if fully-grown women above the age of consent, at the age where they can sign contracts legally, aren't responsible for their actions...the argument that is most forcefully made is that they don't deserve to be free individuals.

I still don't understand how someone who was condemned to die before they abolished the death penalty can be eligible for parole. They already got to keep their life so it should be life without parole.
