    Every time I've heard Dianne tell her story, she told it exactly the same way, down to the smallest details. Unbiased truth.

    • @Wildberryjamband
      @Wildberryjamband 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      but she is completely unaware that the Beach Boys stole one of Charlie's songs and didn't give him credit or money. Helter Skelter was a schizophrenics delusional prediction, but getting Bobby out of jail, scaring Melcher in retaliation for the music, and Tex Watson was sent to do it because Manson had to shoot Lotsapoppa. Diane Lake is a very minor character and she didn't really know anything at the time. She published a book when she reached retirement age for income purposes, but she doesn't have anything to offer that hasn't already been said and written a dozen times.

      @@Wildberryjamband She admits she was a minor "character" in the story. But that doesn't discount her book, which is much more about how a 14 year old could be pulled into a cult and how she personally was affected by that type of life. She was assaulted by him and testified against him in court. It's an amazing story. But a much more personal one. It's not a true crime book. It's a memoir. The first section about her own family is also wild.

      @@Wildberryjamband Agree with you except for the minor part. I have nothing positive to say about Lake and I call BS on her entire "recollection". She should never have been allowed to profit from a book. She's a liar, a manipulator and should have been prosecuted for something.....perjury? As a kid, I was working at 12 for a neighborhood farm. You don't even want to know what I think of this woman!

      This is interesting because I agree with you're idea... but I feel we all have to be as open as possible and talk about everything. I think the key is attacking this at it's root, rather than the scraps after the fact...
      We should be putting our efforts towards our prison system and actually trying to reform people rather than stuffing them away and services that make parents more accountable for their kids... Unless we do, there will always be worse and worse Mansons in a never ending line. Ethics will not even hinder these people. They don't think that far down the line. These types of people live for the day... and until we address the root of how people like Charles Manson are manufactured by our society, it will only increase as time goes by.
      Great comment and insight though...

      Yeah, but there's a difference in reporting news and shaping the narrative. No news media that I know of actually just report what happened without showing bias towards how they expect or want the listener to feel about it. Real news reporting shouldn't carry within the message itself emotionalism, judgment or moralizing. Should be just the facts and the facts should not be selected based on whether they support the narrative they are telling.

    • @valhalla1240
      @valhalla1240 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +MalicelnWonderland the problem is that often with these cases, the media reports on them so much, that it's almost impossible for the accused to get a fair trial with an un-biased jury (see for example the case of Pamela Smart). Also: I don't think it's necessary to publish everything, e.g. photos of the crime-scene, police-investigations, surveillance-camera-footage, photos of the murder-weapon. In part, because it is extremely disrespectful to the families of the victims, because these pictures stay on the internet forever and they have no chance to escape them. But also because it sensationalizes crime and murder and that's exactly what sociopaths respond to. Most serial killers, in part, want to be famous, no matter what. If we give them that, we encourage them to murder more people.

      Knowledge is power, I want to learn the mind of a killer and see their reasoning. Is it racism? Sexism? Discrimination? Mental illness? Better knowing could push for positive change.

      I don't think everyone at the ranch would have been capable of murder. The night after Sharon & her friends were murdered, Linda Kasabian who was part of the cult, deliberately screwed up Manson's plan to commit a third set of murders. Some people were living on the ranch because they didn't have anywhere else to go, they were not all evil killers. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the cult was a good thing.The vile, evil creatures that brutally murdered those innocent people, in my opinion deserved the death penalty, shame it was abolished.

      @Brancaalice Jim Jones had power over the lives of hundreds of his followers. So much so that everyone in the congregation packed up their belongings, said goodbye to all of their families and friends and moved out of the U.S to Guyana. Once there, he convinced hundreds of people to drink cyanide laced punch in order to leave this cruel world and move into the next dimension. Some had to be convinced (at gunpoint), but in the end, 900 people followed him to their deaths. So yes, brainwashing can and does happen whether people understand or acknowledge it. It could be argued that brainwashing is a component of most religions.

      the copycat motive to free Bobby, and scaring Melcher and Wilson for stealing his song without payment were also part of the motives. Watson was sent to do it because Manson had shot Lotsapoppa for him and now Watson owed him the favor of starting Helter Skelter; freeing Bobby and scaring Melcher. Its a triad of motives and Diane didn't know anything about the Hinman, Lotsapoppa and Terry Melcher motives.

    I am just finishing reading Dianne’s book right now. I’ve read Susan’s book. Tex’s book. Helter Skelter. Manson in His Own Words. All very interesting. Add to that the book CHAOS. 😮 In the end - as with anything, we’ll never know the whole truth. But I do think Charlie told them what to do. He and Tex had both been at the Tate house. Charlie and the girls had partied at the house next door to the LaBianca’s house. They chose houses that they knew the layout of and the surroundings. I am pretty confident that Charlie was at both scenes but let his followers do the dirty work for him. He still put them up to it. That’s my take after much reading.

Because of Manson's facial similarity to photos of Jesus I was often terrified when staying overnight at my Christian cousins home because they had an illuminated portrait of Jesus on the hall wall outside the bedroom.
