He constantly gets beat up and stabbed, causing Matt to lie to his friends about it. But the difference here is when his friends find out they usually go "It's fine I can see why you had to keep lying to me it must be hard living 2 lives" or in Harry's case in the Raimi movies "You killed my dad & lied to me for years about not knowing who Spider-Man is fuck you" so seeing Matt & Foggy have a bit of a fall out after the big reveal is way more interesting than Foggy just accepting his best friend who he has known for years is a crime fighter & had powers in 1 episode.

I fucking LOVE Jack Murdock. He’s barely in the show relatively speaking, but the scenes he’s in are fantastic and he is SO important to Matt’s development.
Yeah I mean I don’t necessarily agree with his decision either. But I at least understand why he made it. And I wouldn’t necessarily call it selfish but I guess I could understand that perspective
@@leafyishereisdumbnameakath4259 I think he made a very tough decision: he knew that as a not super successful boxer, he had little to offer to Matt's future (all those hits in the head will eventually pass you the bill), so he chose to go all-in and "invest" all of his savings to his last fight so his son could go to college.
@@leafyishereisdumbnameakath4259 that's the point. He's a flawed man who gave up his life for pride. Just to make his son proud. It's fantastic storytelling
Maybe he meant it was boring or something. But Matt’s story is so grounded. He loved his dad. He was his idol even though the dad was struggling to get by. And then jack wanted to be the type of man his son could look up to and he wanted to inspire Matt to never give up, so he won the fight and it cost him his life. That is touching. Those were some heavy scenes. Matt’s root foundation came from it. I know you know lol but yea idk what that podcaster wanted from daredevil origin. Daredevil and punisher are my favorite marvel shows. Haven’t watched winter soldier wanda or Loki yet
@@ItsTheDon27 I've watched those other 3 and I can tell you Daredevil and Punisher do leaps and bounds over those. They're a bit campy and sometimes just unclimactic and weird. There were some good fun moments in loki and wandavison that sorta shined through and paved the way for the MCU, but there was so much bad humor and poor writing in all of them, and they were very predictable most of all. the most good i can say about loki and wandavision is that they were fun, but i can diss them all day for their flaws that are so blatantly overlooked by fans caught up in the fever dream and execs only after the subscription money. Falcon and the winter soldier was not very good and ended very bland, there was little going on with characters that really developed them other than some small moments between bucky and sam, bucky being the best character in the show by far as he actually had a few compelling story points (overcoming mental manipulation and torture that he endured as the winter soldier and trying to come back from his deeds he had no control of). but with daredevil every episode is packed with meaning and develops our hero more complexly every day as he struggles with his desire for justice. I can just think back to the episode where young matt murdock was reading a quote from Thurgood Marshall to his dad and it was a basis for who Matt would become and the actions his father would take, and it gives me chills.
@@DeepFriedBeans23819 I watched Wanda I liked the magic but didn’t really develop the character anymore than she was from end game. @Parker Jackson one think I didn’t really like about Loki the character is that he’s not a badass and he got whooped easily but hulk and never got a rematch
Lmao it’s really weird right? Like some shows manufacture out of character drama to make things interesting, and while you can enjoy that, it’s still poorly written. But in Daredevil, the drama that’s created is fully within character, built up from the last 2 seasons + Defenders, and it’s incredibly compelling. No sloppy writing was used to make this drama, and it’s interesting, it’s the best of both worlds. Did Kaya just want Daredevil, one of the most interesting characters ever, to be a perfect friend who does everything right? I don’t get why you wouldn’t want this compelling drama thrown into such a good show
stone me, but every media raises the tension to such heigths, while completely ignoring the ending, that they are unable to provide a statisfying resolution
Did... did this Kaya lad watch the same show? Or did he watch it while shaking his head from side to side, crossing his eyes, and screaming at the top of his lungs?
Daredevil was definitely one of the best-written Marvel shows/movies around, leagues better than the Flash, especially after the latter's downwards spiral into madness. Out of season 1 & 3, there were only a few scenes I can think of that caused problems in the story or otherwise bugged me. There were quite a bit more in season 2 that really weirded me out, but unlike 90% of what we have nowadays, it doesn't blatantly cut against the rest of the story. I'd be genuinely interested to see what fans of the show say about this. Consensus seems to be that season 1 & 3 were better than season 2, but I haven't heard anything specific.
First four episodes of Season 2 were top level Daredevil stuff, felt unique from seasons 1 and 2. The rest was not as great, and honestly it’s mostly just because of the writers setting up The Defenders. I wish we could’ve gotten a season with just Daredevil dealing with the Punisher, and them maybe coming together against the Blacksmith, who felt really underwhelming since his whole story was soooo soo separate from The Hand storyline, which it kept cutting away to. Contrast that to season 3, where there are 2 villains but they are linked incredibly well, to the point where it ends in a three way battle with no cutaways to a whole different story, and might I add, that Bullseye v Daredevil v Kingpin fight was masterfully done
Yeah for me, the Punisher plot line of season 2 was the best stuff in the show, but I never got that invested in Elektra as a character so it kinda balances out
Kaya is a good example of folks that claim to be comic book fans, but thinks actually reading the books is for dorks and gets all his knowledge from the movies and tv shows.
He's a good example of the kind of person who throws all kinds of shitty criticisms towards a subject and then when someone knowledgeable asks for examples of elaborations he'd go "it's just stupid and shit, you know?". He appeals to the sort of people who dismiss any arguments coming from a person because they live with their mom or drive an opel astra or some petty shit like that
I really hate this idea that has taken root in the last few years that characters HAVE to be at least morally ambiguous pricks, if not outright monsters to be compelling or realistic. Matt is a complex, interesting character with flaws like deeply rooted anger, trauma, and self-destructive tendencies that is nonetheless very moral and compassionate. And the best part is that he is moral and compassionate BECAUSE he keeps his negative character traits in check, and when he fails to do so, he either tries to reign them back in or redirect them towards some kind of good.
I am guessing people are just tired of Boy Scouts like Superman who never will go all out with his power unless he is fighting a god that can take it or people like Batman who CAN go that far but keep being a bitch & saying "I could kill you but that would make me evil & send me to a place I can never return from" which is understandable but I don't get how it's "realistic" when they are doing the exact opposite.
The episode where Mat and Punisher debate the morality of killing on the room is one of the best in the show. It gives me big Batman Under the Red Hood vibes (especially with Punisher trying to force him to kill him to prevent him killing Grotto)
I wish people were mature enough to say I just didn't like it but it was good writing, or even the opposite, I liked it but I know its garbage. That is a huge problem with criticism. Most folks cannot admit what they like might be objectively bad or they try to rationalize why they dont like something that is perfectly good. Either one is OK people. I enjoyed the first 2 seasons of Flash but I will be the first guy to let you know you may not like it because it has pretty terrible writing and the seasons are too long.
@@poppag8281 I watch with a “what could have been done better” mindset. Spoilers but at the end of season two, Deathstroke appears out of nowhere to fight the Titans and dies faster than Dick Grayson running down the stairs after Jason’s fall. That whole Deathstroke fight scene should be taken out. When Dona saves Dawn after the carnival fight with Conner, she should not have died by the electricity. I think she should have been worn out at most. This is where I think Deathstroke should show up. Everyone is happy and they saved the day right? Deathstroke finishes his mission by killing Dona the same way Garth died. Dona’s death is more impactful and Deathstroke could be saved for season 3 or a later season. Does this sound dumb? Idk if this justifies me enjoying the show 😅.
I have problem with 'liking'. Some people watch shows sleepy or drunk or unmotivated just to cross them from their watch list. They start with prejudice and after create non existing reasons to justify their bullshit. Let's call them shitwatchers.
Funny thing is that even in his own comics/show, the Punisher receives endless criticism for killing freely. He even struggles with the concept himself sometimes, and wonders if he's really in the right. In the comics and in one of the movies (can't remember which, I think it's the second) he accidentally kills innocent people and becomes consumed by the guilt.
I believe you’re talking about the second season of his Netflix series where Jigsaw kills the 3 girls but does it in a way that makes frank think he did it then he starts to feel guilty.
I’ve never seen him struggle with killing. In fact two different ghost riders have tried to use the penance stare on him, which burns your soul after making you feel all the pain you caused. Frank just stared at him and literally said ,”I regret nothing”
@@GermanDentist2624 It depends on the comic. There's a comic and even a movie where he accidentally kills an undercover cop and questions his morality.
Don't you just love it when pseudo-reviewer hacks straight up invent things that never happened in the actual thing they're reviewing just so their criticism seems like it holds up? It's right up there for me with classics like "plot holes don't matter" and "it made money, so it's good".
Seems like Kaya didn’t like it, but either didn’t understand why he didn’t like it and he then tried to make up a reason why, or he wasn’t paying attention to it while watching. I think the latter is becoming more common as we multitask more while watching shows; Kaya might have just missed a bunch of the show (if we extend him the benefit of the doubt).
Ya know..., I really like Matt Murdock and the daredevil characters, they have a extremely detailed backstory, he grows up with pain and anguish of already having to hear the screams of the pain and mercy and for help, but he didn't do anything, he grows up like this, in this hell of agony and suffering, the guilt of not stopping horrible crimes... He finally breaks and becomes daredevil, a devil to hear and do something about the screams of hell.

I'm not sure he watched the same show, I didn't even need to see your counter... arguments? well their more just facts. Yes, Matt does treat Foggy and Karen badly and not just to be a hero but because he is CLEARLY addicted to Elektra. People might say "that his behavior is not consistent" since he throughout the season will berate her for how she is acting then talk about building a life together, then say their no good for each other the next morning after she kills the ninja (some honesty) and then he gets back into trying to save her from regretting killing stick and then wanting to run away with her before she dies. But guess what, certain people do have people in their life that make them stupid and love crazy. That is not inconsistent writing it's a purposeful character flaw. He doesn't have the greatest track record with successful relationships with women. And Elektra is Matt's version of heroin because he can actually be with her fully without the need to hide anything and she can also do the work that gives his life meaning beside him as a partner. Which is ironic because that is actually what Fisk wants with Vanessa once he realized that she didn't want him to hide anything and wouldn't judge him for it. Even after Foggy knows they treat it as if it's a substance abuse problem which makes Matt reluctant to share the reality he is living in. Now if you don't like how Matt treats his friends, very understandable, it takes a lot for someone to do a thing that would make me push them out. But I actually feel Foggy would be justified in blowing up at him and wanting to shut down their partnership. Wait a minute...!
This is why I love Spidey and DD's relationship so much in the comics. These dudes can just link up on a brige midday for lunch and talk about their problems. Matt talks to Pete about Karen's death at the hands of Bullseye and Peter brings up Gwen and the Gobiln. Still, he reminds Matt that even though he lost Karen he saved innocent lives and maybe even instilled hope in the folks they saved, changing them for the better (something like that). It's too bad neither of them drink, I could imagine them trading stories about Elektra and Black Cat. I feel like Felicia is in a similar boat but Peter likes her because she lets him hang loses and ease up on his boyscout routine. She's fun, exciting and a departure from Pete's normal romantic partners, all of the power, none of the responsibility. Both Felicia and Elektra want the heros to go further and fully embrace the power that they're given to fullest and for their own gain. Mattew and Peter sure know how to pick em. 😂
@@OceansOfMotionStudios Peter Parker is the Dick Grayson of the Marvel universe, what's so ironic is that certain writers still write him as an awkard nerd who has no luck with the ladies. How many gorgeous supermodel looking girlfriends does he need to have before he has to deliver in his ugly duckling card? 😂 Yeah Felicia usually wants him to keep his mask on, so that relationship is never going to work out, although in the ultimate universe that made sense. Since you know in 80s she technically did something illegal that would not fly today. Considering she was a grown woman at the time. Then the man literally had a girlfriend who was for the lack of a better term made to mate with him.
@@thebestfontever If your refering to my comment about Spider-man I was talking about him and Cindy Moon. They literally are incapable of not hooking up if you put them in the same room because their animalistic spider senses take over in the same way it does for animals when they are ready to produce offspring.
Honestly Daredevil is hands down one of the best superhero shows ever made, in my opinion. It wasn't just someone doing the right thing because it's the right thing to do, it was someone acting on what HE believed was the right thing to do, and the whole show constantly talks about whether trying to do the right thing but hurting others to do it is right or wrong, and it's so grey that it comes down to everyone's opinion. Matt Murdock isn't a perfect character because writing in the ambiguously grey doesn't work if he is. Contrast that to something like Superman. He'll always do the right thing, make the right choice, and save everyone in the process while only sacrificing himself (though he never actually sacrifices himself). Basically he throws himself at whatever threat there is, and will take all the blows in order to do what is undeniably right. However, whether Daredevil is right or wrong and the morality of his actions comes entirely down to individual opinion. Should he have defended The Punisher in court? That's a more loaded question than people think it is. Sure, everyone needs some kind of legal defense, but The Punisher's case really should've been open and shut. The dude was very clearly guilty of a plethora of homicides, and whether those people were bad or not it asks the question of when it's okay to take a life, if it ever is at all? When Punisher guns down an entire bar full of gang members, was he justified? Were all of them really so evil they deserved to lose their life? Is he doing the world a favor, or is he a menace? Nothing is cut and dry and obvious. He's not a bad guy, but he's not a good guy either. Where I'm going with that previous assessment is that Daredevil is the same way. He's a douchebag, sure. He treats his friends like shit, he fucks people over, he beats the ever-living fuck out of criminals, and he skirts around the law to do so. However his intentions are good. He fucks over Karen and Foggy trying to keep them safe, and make them not involved in what he knows is dangerous, and what he knows he's bringing on himself. He beats the fuck out of criminals because he knows for a fact that the legal system doesn't always work, and wants to bring what he views as justice to people who abuse the system to get around being punished for their crimes. It's part of why the entire Elektra arc works, despite the Hand. Elektra is there to test his morals. To see if he'll tip over from the light side of grey to the darker one. To see if she can corrupt him, and change his views. I could go on forever, but I think that's enough for now lol.

There is a very common behaviour I have noticed in others when it comes to media, many say people disapprove of creative & thoughtful movies & books because we all have different tastes, but I think there is more to it then that. Irrational Rating of Media is a behaviour I think stems from the desire for humans to be different & have diverse opinions & perspectives despite whether or not something is objectively true. Sometimes I wish for a world where everyone can just appreciate a work of art & say it's not for them, but it always becomes this complex where they have to blame the art & the artist to make themselves feel special. But on the other hand this behaviour is what allows us to have a broad range of unusual personalities & quirks, only saying it would be nicer if people didn't have to be so negative ALL THE TIME
It physically pained me to hear kaya say that the punisher screwed his case because daredevil taunted him. Like seriously did he think that just magically somebody linked to the murder of his family was in the same prison as him by chance? And did he skip over literally every conversation between fisk and castle? Did he think frank wanted to go to prison for no reason?
I totally get how he would think that's the true intention of the writers. It is how popular media have trained their audiences to accept now. Characters making big decisions simply based on emotions, plot advancements that relies on pure contrivances..... Things like those are all over the holywood movies nowadays.
Yes. Matt tends to be a douche. That’s the show characterizing him and it’s something that is addressed and a regularly talked about and complained about by other characters. It almost always has consequences for everyone and massively affects the plot. That’s a POSITIVE for the show
Season 3 was so unbelieavably good that I had to annoy my friends and family by talking about it on end. And it's all down to their portrayal of Matt Murdock and his struggle to be the hero he needs to be. Even his christianity plays a huge role in the show and is treated well in general. Daredevil could not be more interesting, especially compared to today's MCU and it's shows. Having a well acted and portrayed Fisk is just the icing on top of it all.
Has that guy ever heard of the Tragic Hero? Daredevil is MEANT to be flawed. He’s MEANT to be a terrible friend. The entire show is demonstrating how difficult it is for a hero to balance their two lives, and Matt’s character flaws are the consequences of that.

I know this videos a little older now but it still brings me joy to see people giving this show the attention it deserves. THIS is the stuff I want from Marvel, stuff that makes you think.
The backstory bit is pretty funny because aside from Matt, only Fisk, Frank, Poindexter, Elektra (kind of) and Karen get backstories. And Karen only in the last season. Foggy never gets a backstory, Vanessa never gets a backstory, Wesley never gets a backstory, Stick never gets a backstory.
Daredevil and The Punisher are two sides of the same coin. But damn the sides shine fabulously as characters. Their conversation in Daredevil season 2 is one of the most smart and realistic talks. Doesnt matter who you agree with they both put forth their arguments like real people, they both talk like real men arguing about flaws in each others ideology. I dont know why but if feels so real.
I like how they show Daredevil’s vision(my grandpa told me(when he got a stroke) that when he saw us on his left side, he sad shadows, it wasn’t completely dark.

I watched a man criticize a podcast I've never listened to, where a man I don't know criticizes a show I've never watched. I don't know what to think anymore. Probably not much.
I'm watching this after just rewatching the series and it is stunning how ignorant this dude is of the show. In Daredevil, Frank is meant to be a foil to Matt in that Matt's values are put to the test when he represents him out of a belief that Frank deserves the best representation he can get despite what he is done, and Matt is forced to stick by him even when representing him is causing problems in other aspects of his life. Likewise the Punisher exists as a foil to Daredevil as he offers a very different philosophy on the issue of vigilantism not held by our protagonist, believing himself to be judge jury and executioner. The characters all have their own opinions about the guy, some sympathetic and some hostile, but the narrative never treats Frank as though he is in the wrong or in the right, and in the end Frank and Matt make their peace with each other without either one of them compromising their values. In season three we not only get more of Matt's already well backstory both through himself and other characters, but we finally see the resolution of the conflict that is his double life, which has been the driving source of the tension in the series. We also see his values change as his faith in the legal system disintegrates because of the rampant corruption he observes.
Holy shit! I finally found someone who is able to make sense and bring out valid points in a calm and methodical manner. Props Madvocate, you are the real hero here and you wholeheartedly earned my sub (your flash videos are spot on btw!). Keep them coming.
Why is Kaya incapable of going in depth? He only sees the surface and can't see the important details??? Like yes Matt is a jerk to his friends but that the point! And there's reasons for it. Howd he miss the reasons? He's depressed and thinks he has to push them away so they don't get hurt. What is it that stick said is S1? "Do you have friends?... let them go, break their hearts if you have to". It's literally what he was taught to do. I fucking LOVE Jack Murdock. He’s barely in the show relatively speaking, but the scenes he’s in are fantastic and he is SO important to Matt’s development.
he's so stupid and selfish to do what he did especially because he KNEW it'd kill him.
Yeah I mean I don’t necessarily agree with his decision either. But I at least understand why he made it. And I wouldn’t necessarily call it selfish but I guess I could understand that perspective
He is a great character, even if he was in the worst situations even before he had Matt, he still tried his best to take care of his son.
I cried when I saw Matt's background story so the fact that he said he had no background, proves he didn't know what he was talking about
Maybe he meant it was boring or something. @@ItsTheDon27 they kinda suck.

But in Daredevil, the drama that’s created is fully within character, built up from the last 2 seasons + Defenders, and it’s incredibly compelling.
Consensus seems to be that season 1 & 3 were better than season 2, but I haven't heard anything specific.
for me season 2 was the least good but not bad
The first third of season 2 is on the same level of quality of seasons 1 and 3. After that, The Hand gets brought in and it becomes a bit messy.
Yeah for me, the Punisher plot line of season 2 was the best stuff in the show, but I never got that invested in Elektra as a character so it kinda balances out
That Frank Castle trial was phenomenal.
With his logic he shouldn't like any hero.

You summed it up perfectly
I am guessing people are just tired of Boy Scouts like Superman who never will go all out with his power unless he is fighting a god that can take it or people like Batman who CAN go that far but keep being a bitch & saying "I could kill you but that would make me evil & send me to a place I can never return from" which is understandable but I don't get how it's "realistic" when they are doing the exact opposite.
Kaya is human embodiment of "Speaking out of your ass"
I like Titans but, the show is such a mess.
@@Patrick_Nguyen out of curiosity why do you like it despite considering it a mess

Deardevil is one of the most well written shows out there it’s amazing and I really wish it didn’t get canceled

I really hope Kaya didn't ruin Daredevil for Charlie because I think he would love Daredevil if he watched it
I love how he said Daredevil has no backstory in the show that has DAREDEVIL for title

Doesnt matter who you agree with they both put forth their arguments like real people, they both talk like real men arguing about flaws in each others ideology. I dont know why but if feels so real.
The first season of Daredevil is both peak Marvel and peak Netflix.
I like how they show Daredevil’s vision(my grandpa told me(when he got a stroke) that when he saw us on his left side, he sad shadows, it wasn’t completely dark.
So Kaya watches Punisher to see him kill people, not the why does he kill people. Have Kaya be on the watch list, police.
I don't know what fucking show Kaya watched, I'm flabbergasted.
The phrase 'living in my head rent free' is still living in my head rent free, and I just wish he'd pay up, move out or get a girlfriend already.
Mostly so I could afford to finally stream Daredevil.
Did he even pay attention to what was going on?
The Russo Brothers made a whole freaking movie about Thanos, but that doesn’t take anything away from any of ye Avengers.
did he even watch the show? cause it sounds like he saw some trailers and is pretending he watched the whole show.
The worst part about takes like these is that if anyone listens to them without knowing anything about the topics, they are likely to never give it a chance. Imagine never getting to experience Daredevil because you heard some ill-informed ass say nothing but completely untrue things about the show.
I used to watch daredevil when he used to be on TV. Then amazon prime came out and I watched it 2 more times and I never got bored of it. Btw nice flash videos
Love this channel you can clearly see the mauler influence i hope more people do more objective content like this
I love how even watching those clips I was reminded how amazing his backstory and character build up is, tf he taking about no backstory
I've no fucking clue what these guys were on when they were watching Daredevil or reviewing it (my guess would be lithium and mass amounts of gasoline inhalation) but I'm thankful that you made a video discussing EXTREMELY VALID and HONEST REASONS why this show is FUCKING AMAZING and these dudes are completely and totally fucking mental lmao Much love to you my guy! 🙏😁💯
How does Kaya exist with such a bad memory? With what he says about the show, you'd think he'd misrember the delivery guy as a mugger.
Are we sure that this guy watched the same show as Netflix's daredevil and not Batfleck's Daredevil?
I bet kayas parents just have their faces in their palms right now and are letting out a disappointed sigh
Holy shit! I finally found someone who is able to make sense and bring out valid points in a calm and methodical manner. Props Madvocate, you are the real hero here and you wholeheartedly earned my sub (your flash videos are spot on btw!). Keep them coming.
"That's not what people like me tune into the Punisher for"
Then maybe stop watching the Daredevil show, and go watch the one about him!
And when he sees that holding onto them only puts them in harms way he decides to follow that advice. He's literally such a complex and in depth character it's really a shame that people lack the ability to see that.
Kaya tunes in for a show, and his brain tunes out.
I love how its specifically shitting on kaya its so funny
God damn. I had the exact same issue with Kaya’s take when I heard this podcast episode, and I’m glad something addressing it just randomly popped up in my recommended. Thank you Madvocate
I am not that knowledged in Catholicism. But if pre marital sex is a sin according to it, then Matt is flawed in that regard. Just a thought that occured to me when I was watching the show and reading the comics 🤔
It's like he only watched clips with the punisher on youtube. Daredevil is easily one of marvels most interesting characters and this show is easily one of marvels best piece of entertainment.
I love tjis podcast and I think kyas very entertaining to listen to a lot of the time but yeah this specific segment stayed in my head for a while too and it just kinda bugged me too. Thanks for making this video and relieving this segment from my head 😂
Did Kaya just like, not watch half the show? Did he spend every scene that Matt was on screen watching his phone?
Kaya is in my opinion the worst part about the podcast, cuz he doesn't think before he speaks. Like when he talked about the Vinny Vinesauce situation, he made it sound way worse than what it was, and he just puts words into other's mouths, he also literally makes shit up. It doesn't help that he's on a podcast with possibly one of the most influential creators on this platform, so his voice can be and probably will be heard which is scary.
living in my head rent free is about as meaningful as the people who thing they own you when you block them
