Jeff Huffman Flat track does have brakes. You're thinking of speedway motorcycles that have no brakes at all. I've been to tons of AMA flat track races and you always see them glowing their rear brakes so hot. Speedway bikes are ran in other countries on real short tracks and they dont have ANY brakes.

They need to tape a bubble level on the bar and keep it level to be accurate.
SanFranciscoBay or just use two cones so then you know the pole is parallel with the track instead of level.
Good point. If the track is banked and the measuring pole is level, the rider will slide under the highest distance.
