  • * Q&A Pt.2 Update! * - Sorry for those waiting for the second part of our Q&A episode, we had shot it and began editing though the exposure was all over the place and the quality of the video just wasn't good enough, even for us as complete amateur videographers. A little bit disappointing though we’ll be looking for a new location to reshoot asap. Hang tight.
    Anyway back to normal proceedings!
Continuing our journey up the east coast of Malaysia, the next stop is Cherating. In the right season this is the place to surf in Malaysia. We didn’t have any expectations though as the forecast was only predicting 0.1m swell. It was right.
Besides the surf, on the next beach north of Cherating we found a great spot to set up camp. At this beach there’s a small turtle sanctuary where they collect Green Turtle eggs off the beach and then release them when they’re big enough. The ranger told us they usually come up to the beach between 10-11pm to dig a nest and lay their eggs. We sat quietly outside waiting patiently though there was no action happening tonight. With no turtle sightings on our first night, we thought we’d try our luck and stay another night!
We went out to get some food and water and when we arrived back at the beach we were greeted with a grass fire! Mark tried his best at extinguishing the fire with the collapsible shovel and was able to put out most of it. Though we decided we should still move to a different spot because as soon as the wind dropped we’d be sitting in a chimney! Thankfully it rained really hard that night so hopefully the remainder of the fire was put out.
With no luck seeing any turtles we hit the road with the next destination being Taman Negara, which translates to National Park in Malay. Jolie had read that this was supposedly the oldest national park in the world, 130 million years old! Looking further into these claims the correct answer really depends on which source you want to believe. It seems it has some hot contention with the Daintree Rainforest in Queensland!
Arriving in Kuala Tahan (the village which accesses the park), we struggled to find somewhere to wild camp so asked at a guest house we drove past if they knew anywhere, though instead the owner offered for us to camp on his lawn. This lawn could also be known as a durian battle ground. Our instructions were to camp as much in the middle of the trees as we could, or else we risked possible death by durian!
The following morning we walked from the guest house down to the town where you take a boat across the river for 1 Ringgit to the national park. There’s many hikes that you can do in the park, though we chose do check out the tree top walk and then do the Bukit Teresek hike. All up was about 10km of wandering through the jungle.
Surviving the durian attacks, we head off back to KL for (hopefully) only a few days so that we can extend our Carnet for another 12 months. This time there would be no Airbnbing, just good old camping in the middle of a busting city metropolis surrounded by sky scrapers!
Thanks for watching! Join us next week as we get out of KL and head NORTH!!

I believed this used to be the refugees camp for Vietnamese boat people in 1980.

Yeah late reply but yes Daintree is much older. Its just that Taman Negara is far older than the Amazon forest. Thats about it, really! 😊

Thanks Jimmy, nope no experience. We only started using both the cameras and software once we left. (That might be obvious from the first video haha) Needless to say it’s been a pretty steep learning curve!
