What a fantastic show! And the second set is EVEN BETTER, if that can be believed. Brent Mydland; holy shit! What a damn shame he couldn't get to a better place while he was alive. He was just fantastic on stage with them.
Thanks again, Kevin. In Days past, when the world got to be too much to you could slip off to a theater, ballroom, stadium, with a few thousand of your close friends and get lost, high, focused, whatever you needed with Jerry & crew. Now we can get close with a little help from our dear friend Kevin T. Anyone who shares these gems with you is certainly your friend, do not doubt.
Amazing first set with a lot of crackling energy. So great to see Jerry and Bob smiling, interacting and having a lot of fun. 38:40 check it out. Thanks Kevin.
I think this is the night my friend Claire found me in the tapers pit n said you have to come with me. You have to see where I am. I gave her a red ticket u get at the coliseum in the morning. She brings me to the rail in front of Phil. Every note he played vibrated my entire body. It was something I never felt before or since. I think I met Davis Davis from Davis this night too. It was so long ago. Thanks for the memories Kevin!!!!
Rumor was that Anabelle (Garcia) gave her dad contacts for Christmas. Jerry also had no glasses for Chinese New Year/Mardi Gras stand a few months later, but gradually segued back into 👓 by summer '90. Several times in this run at Oakland, we saw him turn to his amp stack (2 days including here, we sat behind the stage) to push his non-present glasses back up 😂.
Brent Mydland - played with the Dead from late 1979 to early 1990 when he died of an overdose, it's been speculated that he was either unconsciously or, dare one say, consciously trying to avoid having to spend time in the joint for a multiple DWI's. From everything you can read about it, he was never totally at peace, which is tragically sad, because in retrospect, once he was gone it was never the same. Didn't help that the band never took even a slight break to acknowledge and grieve their loss.
Annabelle (Garcia) was rumored to have given her dad contacts that Christmas. Tho U can't see it, he kept turning to his amp stack during this run to push his absent glasses back up. Priceless! Glad I sat behind the stage just for that.
Because this is EASILY one of if not THE best West LA ever (not only the growl ONE will do at the end but the "Got a steady job... HAD a steady job." If you ever worked for them, it's priceless) and it starts a run through the end of Rider that is nonstop 5 star turned up to 11. Whole show is absolute top notch. Whole run. GARCIA EYEBROW POWER!

What a treat on the Masterpiece finish, Bobby launches, Jerry chimes in and gives Brent a nod for the grand finale. Good ole Grateful Dead!
