Just wanted to say that your 2023 NAMM coverage was excellent. The two of you have great chemistry together. Stay safe and well and keep Rocking. Zepbass from Munster Indiana, U.S.A.
I totally agree. I’ve said this before. There’s crappy stuff made in our own countries too (for a premium) and there’s great stuff in Asia. You just have to know which is which. Phil McKnight has been a big fan of Shijie for several years now. He’s very critical and fair. I’ve also seen Shijie on a few other channels. I heard suggestions made by Phil a while back, which the company actually took to heart, made those revisions in new models, and Phil was pleasantly surprised to see the next time he got another guitar from the company. This is a small shop that takes pride in its work. Shijie not a giant factory racing to produce a daily quota of guitars. It becomes evident when you look at their website, see photos, and hear more about the luthiers working there.
Phil said this on his podcast last Friday: "I think Eastman guitars, I think Shijie, I think those are the two high-quality made-in-China companies making high-end guitars."
I am so glad restring Sundays are back, because: 1: they brighten up my mood on Sundays (which usually have this uncomfortable feeling) 2: they inspire me to pick up my guitar and play it.
Shijie guitars are amazing. I wish they were easier to get in the US. I did a setup and pickup swap for someone who had it drop shipped with me a couple years ago so that it was ready to go when he got it, and was blown away. Between the specs and build quality you would have to pay twice as much for a Fender, and I'm dubious that you'd get the same build quality. One piece body, quarter sawn neck, Wilkinson tremolo with a brass block. It even came strung with D'addarios. Not my choice, but not what I'd expect on a $700-800 guitar. As odd as it might sound, what reality impressed me first was when I took the pickguard off. It had one of the cleanest shielding jobs I've seen. That's the type of thing that's a good indicator on a more budget friendly guitar's quality. That and the fret work higher up on the neck. I've seen guitars where the frets look impeccable from the first fret up, but once you get to the 15th you see that they didn't put as much care into dressing them. I found that it actually compared closer to a Suhr than a Fender. I have to get one for myself at some point.
It's easy-peasy to get them shipped from the factory now, 6-10 days to east coast USA via UPS and the factory takes care of all the paperwork and pays any fees. There is also one dealer in the US
@@bostonbesteats364 yeah I looked it up last night. I'm live close to Boston so I assume delivery would be around the same timeframe. I'm also assuming you are too, or else are really into Boston restaurant reviews. I need a more modern Strat or Tele, I'll probably go with them.
I agree with all your comments about country of manufacture. Imho a CNC machine is a CNC machine regardless of what country it’s in. QC is the important stage, something that Fender USA are really struggling with at the moment. Perhaps firing an entire shift and a load of QC people a couple of years back has come back to bite them on the arse. Also, your NAMM coverage was the best out there 😎
Went yesterday to a guitar store to try some Fenders (American and Mexican). One had buzzing frets, second had badly finished neck, third one had tip of the switch falling off again and again…but there was one that played, sounded and felt perfect. It was the Squier Classic Vibe. Nuff said about todays guitars
Okay, so I'm not just imagining those Classic Vibes being so damn good? I knew their quality had been getting better for awhile, and I played a Classic Vibe Tele quite a bit between 7-10 years ago but I thought it was just particularly well set up or something. Wasn't really ever into the idea of getting a Squier, but it seems like that might be where it's at for value and I'd be much more comfortable modding one of those to my preferences
@@EvilMike349they’re definitely worth checking out. I’ve got Gretsch White Falcon and a USA strat, and my son’s CV Tele is just as much fun to play. The fretwork was flawless right from the factory and there’s nothing I could honestly complain about it. The 40th anniversary models look so tempting.
I saw Klone recently supporting Devin townsend. The rhythm player was sporting a tele with p90s into a Tremonti PRS amp (I believe it was that amp), sounded like a dual rec and man... that tone was claaaass, very impressed, so there ya go, you can defo metal a tele 😂
I couldn't care less where a guitar is made. My fave guitar I own is a Chinese made I've had for 20 years. I've modded out the electrics and hardware over the years, but the important bit - the neck is the best I've ever held.
A rickety one at that. You also know everyone is gonna freak out about the “headstock support” falling all over the place and being totally useless. I’m surprised it’s still not a paper towel roll. 😂😂😂 MusicNomad needs to sent KDH some proper tools, lol. 👍🏻😎
Phill McKnight has good things to say about Shijie. BKP makes some P90s you could absolutely djent on. I have an Eastman acoustic. Sure, it’s made in China, but it’s made well with good materials.
I played an eastman acoustic. Solid rosewood back and sides, sounded exquisite, at £1600 it wasn't cheap but compared to what I could get from say Martin or Taylor it was better in every way
I have basses that range from being made in Korea, Indonesia, and two from Japan. I also have one Mexican Strat. All of them are quite good. With my '94 MiM Fender Strat, that I bought new at the time (will be 30 years old in 2024). I later modded it with upgraded electronics, and I have friends who love playing it. I had put in Fender Hot Noiseless pick ups, and put in all new electronics, CTS, Switchcraft, along with new capacitors, treble bleed, etc. One day, I'll swap out the tuners and the bridge. But, as it is, I think with my mods can already compete against most American made Strats. As to my basses, I only modded two of them, two electronically, with one Bad Ass bridge upgrade. Otherwise, I did not feel the need to do much with the other instruments. That's how good they are. With that said, yes, I've played American made instruments that were absolute crap. So, where they're made is not always a factor as to the quality of what you'll get. However, I have to say that Ernie Ball Music Man, is probably the only company that has been consistently good, across the board. Even when they went overseas with their Sub series Basses, they seem of have held a higher QC, than most other companies. Of course, that may just be my own experience, and I certainly can't speak to what what others may have to say. But, EBMM Basses, has always been a good experience for me. Also, that Tele sounded great, and looks rather well made.
It's actually easy-peasy to get them shipped from the factory now, 6-10 days to east coast USA via UPS and the factory takes care of all the paperwork and pays any fees. There is also one dealer in the US
I (also) think the key issue(s) for prospective guitar buyers is not so much 'Can I get a good guitar for my 300 bucks?' (yes, you can), which actually comes down to 'Will I get a good guitar for my 300 bucks?' (hit and miss, but the degree varies), but more important 'Will I get a good guitar for 700-1000 bucks?' (hit and miss too, in varying degrees). The last issue in my opinion dominates the market.
I have a personal loating for brands that do the whole "DESIGNED IN THE USA" positioning on the front, followed by the tiny little madeinchina sticker on the back - Chinese companies are as able as anyone to make good products under their own brand - look at (and listen to) SE microphones - proudly Chinese and superb kit. I have one American brand/Chinese made amplifier, it's the only one I have ever had fail catastrophically, and that was because the "Designed In The USA" part of the equation specified (or at least signed-off on) a woefully inadequate power trasformer (yes Bruce - you) - actual build quality was lovely.
I find guitars that are comfortable standing up tend to slide off your lap when sitting down. A squarer profiled guitar like a Tele or a Les Paul sort of digs in and doesn’t slide like a Strat does, for example.
I agree that telecasters can be uncomfortable since they're traditionally all right angle edges. I'm surprised they didn't also do the forearm cutaway on the front since they did the belly cut and heel cut on the back.
Ever seen those cracks near a neck pocket?... yeah, that's from those neck stands, you're putting a ton of leverage in the neck pocket area and being a bolt on, its allowing a lot more flex than you think, that flex transfers into the finish...
I have two Fender Pawnshop Series Mustang Specials. One is Japan made the other is of later manufacture and made in Mexico. People online sneer at the Mexican manufactured one simply because of its geography. As far as I'm concerned the Mexican model is made just as well and features improvements such as better quality knobs and an easily accessible truss rod.
I own a Squier Contemporary Jaguar and a Jackson JS34Q Dinky both made in China, and they are pretty spot on. Fret edges could have been rounded and smoothed a bit better but otherwise surprisingly good!
Sounds surprisingly good for not being a real Telecaster. .👍 I now that there are allot of knock offs out there, from different countries that don't sound good at all .but this one is okay.,very good . .review thank you.

7:42 I agree. I think we should talk about a manufacturer's primary, secondary, & tertiary facilities, which is independent of country. Clearly, Fender's primary factory is in USA; for Ibanez, it is in Japan. Many secondary factories are excellent (e.g. Mexico for Fender, Indonesia for Ibanez). "China" should only be suspect if it is, say, a tertiary factory for a brand. I'm sure there are killer luthiers in China who make fabulous guitars.
Not bad. Looks nice. And as for the Chinese not able to build good guitars? I have this Chinese made Squier CV 60's for about 10 years now. It's better than most 70's US Fenders and probably also better than most Mexican Fenders.
Bought a CV 50s 11 years ago. Changed the jack. Probably could’ve re-soldered the old jack but decided to upgrade it while I was doing the job. Apart from that it’s been perfect. Fit, finish, hardware. Stays in tune, pickups are great. The neck is very slim for a Tele but then that’s personal taste and not a criticism. I’ve had worse US made guitars that cost 4x the price.

I don't dislike guitars made there because of forum posts, It's personal preference. Can't speak for everyone but when you can choose, you can dive as deep as you want in that country rabbit hole. Home country will always be first for me. After that it's based on how I like the country as a whole. Is it logically sound? Maybe not, but it makes enough sense for me. And I won't dog on anyone else with their own preferences because of that. (besides some playful banter of course!)
Cool video and cool tele. You said that you ara not a fan of tele guitars but I have one I am sure you would like. I have Kotzen tele and if you want to restring it I would be happy to borrow it to you.
Rockers don't play cowboys guitars,at least for a couple years, I've had six or eight of 'em by now. Love my Butterscotch tele, But my P90 LP kit I built sounds cool. If it has good bones you get to upgrade to whatever.
You mentioned how Japanese and Korean guitars (as well as Mexican) used to be seen as lesser. Inthink this came from how when these countries were initially used for cheaper labor when they were not as economically developed. Years down the road as they became more developed, their work got better and they could charge more and then were no longer good for the cheap labor. So it seems cyclical as countries develop economically. I think the reputation for Chinese guitars being bad used to be fair, buy especially within the last 10 years they have really stepped up their game. I think this isn't a coincidence as China comes into their own economically. Although that said, the quality can still vary much more wildly from Chinese guitars. They make some stellar instruments at cheaper price points, but also often have massive QC issues. I think in another 10 years Chinese guitars will be as respected as Japanese or American brands- at least if they can establish their own identity and not just make copies which is where we are right now for the most part.
It can’t have anything to do with the government owning the means of production and all the human rights violations. No, my phone wasn’t made in China, it was made in Taiwan. I don’t buy anything from Amazon or Walmart, and if I can help it, I buy products that don’t originate in China.
Even though the P90s sound great, that's not a true Tele. Edit: Man! You lucked out getting that Shisie sent to you. Those are high end guitars! Lucky Bastard lol.
Telecasters are the one guitar that I would say everyone should own. And I mean that most sincerely. You should have some kind of Telecaster in your possession. They are absolutely incredible amazing beautiful inspiring fun to play magical excellent gorgeous required awesome guitars. Get one today.
The description suggest there might be an issue with craftsmanship in China. I think it's rather how much money=time we Westerners allow them to spend on building, QC and management before we whip them with our budget.
When they deliver quality we go to Vietnam or India to get it cheaper and sloppier made there, to make videos how happy 'for the money' we are, subsequently to start complaining about QC and consistency.
Country of manufacturing makes no difference. I have a made in Indonesia Squier VM 70's Strat and playability wise it Destroys my Gibson Les Paul tribute. No joke.

I like Telecasters
Is that a v neck on that Tele? You ever try one if not? I'm a big fan of the v neck, but never hear anyone talk about them.
Mmmm i want a tele with p90s..love it.
What ever happened to the orange ormsby? Is that going to get a review or is it gonna be a restring?

Nice “Goldtop” Tele. 😁👍
That intro had Bryan Adams Run To You vibes
Man that one rings like a damn bell aye.
A beautiful tele!
About time!! 🙂
that guitar sounds good
Even though the P90s sound great, that's not a true Tele.
Edit: Man! You lucked out getting that Shisie sent to you. Those are high end guitars! Lucky Bastard lol.
Right! What makes a tele is the bridge/pickup combination. You need that pickup in that bridge to get that tele sound. That’s not a telecaster.
Awesome !
It's a nice guitar.
A beautiful guitar, sweet 😁
Like deployed 👍
😎🎙🎸✅️
nice video nice guitar bro😍
omg, the ironing board... 🤣
Does anyone know if the TLV is in nitro or poly body? I cannot tell from the pictures.
Telecasters are the one guitar that I would say everyone should own. And I mean that most sincerely. You should have some kind of Telecaster in your possession. They are absolutely incredible amazing beautiful inspiring fun to play magical excellent gorgeous required awesome guitars. Get one today.
Telecaster is my favorite shape and I’m not a snob on which brand it’s from I just don’t like most of the headstocks they come with.
How are they getting away with using the Fender Tele headstock shape?
It’s not exactly the same.
The opening track is like if the Scorpions used teles instead of Vs
F*** me.. if companies want to send me free guitars I'll do a restring Monday.. 😂😂😂
Very, very nice, me want, but no lefty, big bummer!
Nice tele
Country of manufacturing makes no difference.
I have a made in Indonesia Squier VM 70's Strat and playability wise it Destroys my Gibson Les Paul tribute.
No joke.
