The fact that she wrote this song not really in a 'romantic relationship' way but for seeking love, validation, and acceptance from the fans and haters, basically from everyone, showing her most vulnerable side as a normal human being. Rosie directed this MV. She also says this song was largely motivated by reading comments written by haters. For the record, our girl has managed in a space of weeks to release both the happiest song of the year (Apt) and the most emotionally charged song of the year. (This one). Doesn't it just hit you in the feels? This is pure and beautiful pop music. A raw and candid portrayal of a girl on the edge, somewhere between hope and despair, holding it together with the faint chance what she wishes for will come true, but knowing it almost certainly will not. What could have been sentimental, is anything but. It is instead an honest, unfiltered expression of emotion, felt within the moment.
But don't be fooled. This is an incredibly sophisticated composition: the lyrical turns and rhymes are next level. The melodic phrasing is exceptionally skilled. There are multiple movements around the melody that reward repeated listening. For any singer, this would be a very difficult song to get right, to pitch it at just the right level of sincerity combined with musical chops. But Rosie does it with ease. As one vocal coach reacted, Rosie takes you on a journey within just one word. And it's a journey we are happy to go on. ROSÉ is showing us a virtuosity of stylistic skills, honed in all those years at the YG factory, some of them held back, perhaps, but which are now on full display.
PS: Rosie did say that part of the motivation behind the 12 songs on her about to be released album, including this one and APT, is that she could, if she wanted to, tour them with just an acoustic guitar. No stadiums, no semis loaded with props. No multiple costume changes. No back up dancers. Just the girl and a gig bag strapped to her back. She walks onto the small stage, takes out her guitar, leans in to the mic and says, “Hello. I'm ROSÉ.”

You're correct about the song being a "red flag", Rosé herself called the song "disgustingly vulnerable", she wished she didn’t feel the need for other's approval, but we all do, whether we admit it or not.

He is my favourite bcoz he crack the lyrics the cinematography details and so on he is not just an ordinary reactor who just listen the song and thats it. he is a musician himself that's why he can also relate.
This song is so deep and powerful, the fact alone that this doesn't come out of a place of love but hate man that hurts, how bad she must have felt when she's looking for validation, love and respect from the very people that hurt her.
She took all that negativity and she created a beautiful light.

Rosie said in an interview that this song was inspired by the hate comments she received and it got to her so bad that she wanted to make a song about that to over come it😭 Its now even more heartbreaking that from where this song generated😭😭 and yeah you are right about the online internet people validation it is literally what happened

No shade to Teddy..but important to note that although TBL is her management label in SK they are not involved in her solo music production.. She is signed w Atlantic and all music production is done through them..and Teddy wasn't involved in the music production on her Album. This particular song was produced by Bruno Mars and DMile
I am unsure of how true this is... Rosie has shown that she has been in the studio with Teddy, working on stuff... could very well be upcoming BP stuff, but they were definitely listening and teasing Rosie's stuff, so at the very least she is getting input from him.
@@arqHHM ...not working on stuff, they did a live broadcast to tease some of the album tracks. Teddy's office IS the studio, of course they're also good friends but as per Rosé, he (and his team) is strictly there in a managerial capacity; scheduling, advertising, marketing, schedule, etc. while in Asia (which is a huge job in itself). There's no doubt that if he was involved in a production sense that he would be credited. I think that Rosé did that deliberately so as to "cut the cord" from any connection to Teddy's style and/or to have anyone make comparisons to Teddy's work.

her being alone at night really shows that alienation and feeling of loneliness. And eventhough there were 3 rosie's in the mv, it isn't enough since self-validation doesn't mean that much, hence, seeking validations from others. This is also what I am going through as an artist who has been doubting himself and his artworks, I always want to hear "OMG!, your painting is amazing" and it sucks coz I don't even need it.
