Welcome to Calderstones Family used to work here, Grandad was the head Grounds keeper, Grandma's both worked in ward administration, aunts and uncles worked in various departments and wards, mum and dad worked their as HCA's, My dad actually was born and brought up in the housing at the front of the hospital, only recently the terraces where knocked down. To make way for more housing. I spent a lot of time around the grounds of Calderstones as a child. Football pitch and bowling green was just at the back of my granddad and grandma's. Bonfire night for the staff and patients was the best display by a long shot, its was always big and grand, club houses where open. The building you end the video on was the Hospital Church. Hospital was so big that they held multiple services on Sundays. Might be worth looking at areal photos of the site, I suggest looking for Lancashire County Council's MARIO maps service for older arial photos.

Obviously I can't speak to the rest of the country but in the northern Midwest USA we have more manufacturing jobs than we can staff; hiring highschoolers, felons, and active drug addicts to do jobs that were highly coveted in manufacturing even just 12 years ago. The highschoolers don't want a skilled job for 25 an hour because they're happy to work at McDonald's for 20 an hour. I don't understand how people keep getting food from McDonald's anymore, it's too damn expensive for what it is, maybe if more service establishments of the 90s go under the workforce will return to the better paying jobs, at least a bigger portion of the migrants actually want to work manufacturing, even if I have to brush up on some Spanish I learned 15 years ago.
