Andy travelled ahead of his wife and he did migrate to Gillespie, Illinois to work in the coal mine where he joined local club Gillespie who played in National Challege Cup (equivalent to the FA Cup). After a few months he left for Niagra where his sister lived aswell as his two brothers David (Scottish Junior international) and Richard. He joined his brothers at Mackenzie FC who played in the New York State League and it was here he was spotted by scouts. He didnt play another international for another four years because the USA only played again in the Olympics of 1928 and Andy was a professional and so couldnt. By the time of the 1930 World Cup all players had to be citizens which Andy wasnt but he got special permission of the US embassy in Montevideo.

Wow thanks Dean. It was hard finding a lot of info and some of it was conflicting.

@@aidanlynn yes I know what you mean. Some sources say he was born 26 January 1900 but it was 30 April 1900. Not much difference but illustrative of the conflicting narratives.

Thank you for a wonderful presentation! Andy Auld was my husband's grandfather. We both enjoyed the presentation, you even had access to photos we hadn't seen. Thank you for your efforts on this, it is greatly appreciated. Bob and Dianne Auld.

Thanks Andy. It was just a great story from my local community that not many people seem to know about. There’s a few different articles online, a few US soccer websites about 1930 that helped a lot. Glad you liked the video.
