Knowing when to shut up is one of the hardest things for some folks to learn lol

Yep. It was a hard lesson to learn in my younger years. It's still hard to just shut up sometimes though haha

Silence is my toughest call. I know he’s still there but I convince myself after 10 minutes that a hen has taken him, he couldn’t hear me earlier, he must’ve snuck in and seen me or he just lost interest. I end up calling him just when he’s coming into view and he locks onto me and I’m screwed.
I’ll work on it this season I swear man. ( I’ve made the same short lived resolution every spring for the last 30 years)

Had 2 like that last year. Didnt kill either one. The first one i called to him regularly and he stayed in the tree till 10:00. When I decided to stop calling he flew down 30 min later right at me, but before i knew it he flew by me, and then 100 yds behind me he landed. Dang turkey flew through the woods looking for the hen.
2nd turkey i never called to him. I roosted him the night before and was able to get super close super early. I decided to just let him do everything. Well, he gobbled 500 times and stayed in the tree till 10:00. I figured i HAD to call. Called and he flew down to my left. Couldnt get a shot😞

Great information. I had the same type of Gobbler a few years back. Watched him fly down and walk to the same spot along field 3 mornings. 4th day got in early still dark. Sat at that bend in field where he went to. Did not call. He flew down walked field edge to me. Carried him out.

Hey Matt I just wanted to first start off by saying how informative your videos are and how they have helped me become a much better turkey hunter the past few years. I just had a quick question regarding the seasons and timing since I am from New York and maybe you could even get a video out of this. So like the past 2-3 years it’s been warmer and warmer earlier and easier here in NY (67 and sunny today Feb 27th) which is unheard of. I was wondering what your thoughts are regarding the seasons and how the impact of warmer weather will affect when the birds start their breeding cycle considering NY doesn’t even start until May 1st. Maybe a video on how to hunt birds in those warmer conditions or how to hunt birds really late season based on weather because I feel like it keeps getting warmer earlier each year and affecting the birds. Appreciate any wisdom you may have!!

Turkey hunters do not follow directions very well. Lol we like to hear them gobble. But if he answers you he will come looking for you. Patience is key when turkey hunting and do not get in a hurry

My very first gobbler drove me crazy the way he was responding to the call and never showed himself behind the thick tree.
I had decoys at the edge of the field. I did shut up not because I was experienced at the time, but I lost interest in him, gave up thinking he never shows himself.
I went to sleeping kinda mode , tucked in, probably napped too. Within 15 minutes, I saw a big fan right at 10 yards from me . He came in between me and decoys. Then I finished him up 😂.
So basically I was practicing your shut up strategy without knowing.

Most of the time hunters pin them on the roost as you did
