@@shadow-gr4iw that was a weaker Kratos that died to zeus tho, we are talking about Kratos right after he finished off the greek pantheon, which is the same Kratos who killed zeus at that time
@@dodowhisperer2114not only that, he would have been ripping baldur apart over and over again till he just stopped moving. Young kratos is the scariest figure in the GOW universe
The developers have said that Kratos is at his strongest in his old age but is holding back a lot more. He's been more than a match for Thor for a long time now. I'm kindof enjoying the fact that in the new games no one knows what Kratos is capable of, so people are always shocked or confused when he is seemingly unworried about having to face off against the Norse gods. Not only is it nothing he's not already used to, but he knows that he will win since he's already killed so many powerful gods in the past.
@Ghostlyswat 12 I feel like some of the conversations we hear in the game seem to indicate that Kratos is fairly confident in his victory against the Norse gods. The only reason he hesitates or tries to avoid it is because he's trying to be better and doesn't want to repeat what happened in Greece or set a negative example for Atreus. Hence the reason he tries to avoid Ragnarok altogether.
Holding back in a fight is a sign of weakness like he's stronger than Thor but because of his restraint then he allowed Thor to kill him and if it wasn't Thor bringing him back then Kratos story would've ended. Young Kratos would've soloed that pantheon and you can tell this by the moment older Kratos started to give into the rage held back in his younger days while Heimdall, he went from having problems with him to literally beating him to death.
He was referring to the fact he used to be a god of death pretty much and wiped out an entire pantheon on his own. Kratos is far stronger than he was when he was younger.
@vaporouselm9982 okay so you reworded part of what I said? He was more destructive or in a way a god of death because he destroyed an entire pantheon and also the entirety of Greece which went through multiple calamities as he wiped out the Greek Pantheon.
@@anotherclone7687 Old Kratos broke something that technically didn't exist and was a memory, making it indestructible, yet he broke it. He's stronger than when he was younger.
@@mr.manguyfellowValid point with Doom guy. It's a power fantasy, like the old god of war games. But even back then, there was more to it. A man made monster, by betrayal of the gods and eternal suffering. Everyone that played all the old games know that. And there's not even a point to argue with the new god of war games. It's nothing but reflection, trying to be a father and trying to be better.
@@DieEineMiezecouldn’t have said it better myself, the main thing with being a father was the goal to not continue the cycle, of children killing their parents. Something that every Greek man knew about how kronos killed his dad and Zeus killed Kronos and Zues was killed by kratos, the cycle was not to be repeated.
Literally the young kratos killed thanatos (the embodiment of death) going in rage, if kratos let the rage take the control in a fight he can negate the entire norse pantheon
Cory has explained that Old Kratos is stronger. In the first fight Kratos was just too afraid to kill another god, ESPECIALLY someone like Odin's son while Odin was alone with Atreus. Separating them meant that if Kratos went all out and one of Odin's ravens saw it then they'd tell Odin and have him kill Atreus
That's just your headcanon, Kratos was not afraid to kill Thor in the first fight, he even outright tells Thor he'll kill him in the final segment of the battle.
And if Atreus was killed expect a world shaking rage even worse and stronger then that used against Thanatos the literal death who was killed by Kratos
The entire fight Thor wanted to see The God of War, and only leaves after enraging Kratos to hit him seriously. Thor knew the entire time that young Kratos was a much fiercer opponent.
Physically old Kratos is stronger while young Kratos just has the weapons and magics of the Greek Pantheon. So if we just count Kratos' personal power and not borrowed power old Kratos is stronger@@sinjoklassie1649
I think the devs for the new games did state that older kratos is far stronger due to gods getting stronger with age but like u said Kratos has just kept that in as of now. Remember when Thor pushed Kratos just a sliver, Kratos knocked a tooth out of him
You think that's where Kratos time manipulation power will come into play, because he has something like that I thought from GOW2 he huts so hard he can punch holes in timespace that's him at full power is what I'm saying, or am I mistaken and he dsnt have rhat ability
Kratos seemed like he was fighting thor “tactically” but also cos his son was there. The old Kratos was like “fuck all, someone catching these hands. Especially a mfkn god”
But he would be significantly weaker than older Kratos. Younger Kratos won’t have the same strength as Kratos when he punched a tooth out of Thor. And don’t show bias just because younger Kratos was more brutal. In the journals of Kratos, he wrote that the blows of Thor where the strongest hits he ever received and he later wrote that the hammer only amplified that which means Thor even without the hammer was physically more capable than any god Kratos ever faced before.
@@christophercardoza2872Don't forget that young kratos had far more hax and weapons to aid him in battle. I would recommend you to read the journal again.
@@christophercardoza2872 as hard not harder, if you're gonna quote something make sure it's actually correct. he said as hard as any hit he ever felt, there is nothing to suggest thor is stronger than zeus, and kratos took quite a few haymakers from his old man.
I personally feel that it’s because of kratos’s level headed, controlled mindset that allowed him to defeat Thor. Not by beating him physically like at the end of the fight, but rather showing how his nature has changed. I bet younger kratos would’ve died like in the prophecy because he would’ve done did what was originally predicted which was to continue fighting and die by the hands of Thor. But because he changed his “nature” he had the power to change his “fate” as well. He also helped Thor change his nature as well in the end which further aided in fulfilling the prophecy predicted the fall of Asgard. Of course this is my personal theory as to why ironically younger Kratos wouldn’t beat Thor. I’m more than happy to hear anyone else’s thoughts and opinions.
I think this really is the correct answer. What Young Kratos lacked in raw strength, he made up in sheer force of will, madness and rage. But even then, he was in many ways fated to win. A marked warrior was destined to take down Olympus. But it was no mere one on one death match. Kratos employed the help of titans, gods and their weapons, willingly given or forcibly taken. His story did not start with the death of Olympus. He had to open Pandora's box, and unleash the power of hope, he had to turn the magic of the fates against the gods. Ultimately, he did not win because of his strength, but because of his Spartan commitment to victory. "Wars are won by those willing to sacrifice everything".. and he won against Olympus because he had nothing more to lose.
@@shanedsouza189 young kratos absolutely did not lack raw strength 🤣. Have you actually played or read literally anything prior to 2018? This answer was cap asl kratos mopped Zeus EASILY even if you wanted to argue Thor is stronger than Zeus, it would not matter because kratos would still win even if the battle was drug out. Kratos literally cannot die
My opinion that's left is just the fact younger kratos would just came back after being dead and beat the shit of Thor just BCS of the fact that shit was embarrassing
It is impossible, Thor is too physically strong for that beating and would die to ,at the very least, the blade of Olympus. That guy was a real menace for the Older Kratos, his punches were the strongest thing he ever withstood, and the wound Thor kept for all the game was caused by the venom of Jormungadr.
Kratos is kind of like broly or Hulk. You can't size him up, you cannot make him fear you. No matter how hard you punch, he gets enraged & instead of standing down doubles down on you. . That's how the younger version of kratos was that's a guy you would be better of not indulging in
I imagin Kratos determines if he can kills something through this twisted math . "Can my dad kill that?... he should... so since i killed my dad this should be easy"
Depends on who the player gets to play as in the fight. People seem to forget that God of War characters are primarily bound by their fate in the story. The gods were fated to be brought down by a marked warrior. Ragnnarok was fated to happen.
I like how tge Norns in Ragnarok explained that the principles of fate are directed by the nature one or many follow, and that some key events may play out in different ways, but carrying the same outcome or version of the outcome.
Kratos's rage was also fueled by the death of his family that was caused by his hands due to Ares's betrayal. The fact that their death was caused by Kratos own hands also adds fuel to his hatred to Ares for practically forcing him to do it. Then he had to kill his own mother because of a curse placed on her by Zeus and he had to watch his brother who swore to protect get taken away from him again after just reuniting with him. Thor's rage is like a match incomparison to Kratos's rage and hatred which is like 10 suns put together. Kratos's rage an hatred for the gods and himself is unmatched by anyone in this series.
Kratos himself said that he has never had anyone hit him as hard as Thor, and Young Kratos at his peak seemed to be almost evenly matched against Zeus. Young Kratos vs Thor would be a good match up.
@@dennyschay8586A lot of lore is in the journal my man. It's in the journal you know kratos is at his physical peak in strength and that Thor is so far his strongest opponent to date and kratos dispatches him a lot easier than zeus.
He never said that. He said as hard as any i have ever felt. Which means its equal to the strongest hits, not stronger. Plus its been years since Kratos felt blows from Zeus, it is likely he has forgotten how painful they were and Thor’s hits were fresh, plus while fighting Zeus he was in perma spartan rage which surely makes the hits feel less powerful, meanwhile fighting thor he was chill.
We thought Kratos had a difficult time fighting Thor, when in fact the enemy he was struggeling with was himself. That uncontrollable rage, that destroyed Olympus and all of Greece, that Thor caught a glimps of. I heard people say Kratos seemed weaker. I say he is stronger than ever, because he conquers the biggest monster this world has ever seen, that no other god, not even old Kratos could handle: himself.
Kratos is more powerful now not to mention Kratos stated in his journal that Thor’s blows were “harder than any he had ever felt” then the hammer only “compounded those strikes” meaning even without Mjolnir Thor’s power was insane
@@antonius.martinusyeah, so he is as strong as titans. But also much more bloodthirsty than Zeus and atlas. I'm going with Young Kratos, i dont know what would stop a fully raged out kratos with hermes boots and blade of olympus coming at you, also could deflect basically anything with the golden fleece, can also fly and a ton of powerful magic at his disposal. Blade of olympus by itself is a trump card.
One thing I find interesting in Kratos was how far he has changed during the Heimdall fight. If it was young Kratos, he would have brutally killed him similar to Hermes. But he just choked him out instead.
To be fair with today's graphics they could not show that. They get away with it when it is a draugur or a troll or beast but actual people are off limits to stuff that brutal now.
There’s a reason why Thor stopped the first fight between himself and Kratos after Kratos actually gave him a taste of his younger self and it wasn’t bc the “blood payment” was paid.

Let's just ignore that 1. Older Kratos is canonical stronger than younger Kratos 2. Thor needs world spent Venom to really hurt him 3. Mjolnir weighs enough that Older, canonically stronger, Kratos STRUGGLED to lift, and thor swings it like a fly swatter 5. Thor has centuries of experience on younger Kratos. 6. Thor hits hard enough to break the laws of physics and send things back in time.
@@enomisv9830 1. Yes, he's supposed to be stronger, like, he could lift more, but we don't know by how much. It's a metal axe, not a sponge, no way it lasted from the beginning of the first game with all the enemies hit and through 2-3 years of fimblewinter which also scrapped all the axe upgrades. Chances are the devs just forgot what to do with that. 3. Kratos was also holding back severely in that fight. And when he got a little angry at Thor at the end of the fight, he immediately overpowered him and knocked a tooth out. 4. Thor's hammer is not ultra heavy like in the myth here. It could even stand on Kratos's wooden table at the first meeting. Odin and Thrudd could also lift it. Kratos was struggling because: can you lift a bowling ball? Yes, with one hand. Can you catch a bowling ball flying at you at high speed while magically accelerating towards you? 5. What experience? Genociding a people with an overpowered weapon while piss-drunk? If this was an rpg where xp is rewarded for any kill, yes, but here none of that experience will help him fight Kratos 1v1. Kratos didn't gain that much battle experience either. From GoW3 to GoW5 his experience consisted of being a loner for many years, killing giant hippo, being a loner for more years, hunting animals, and killing zombies that are only a problem so gameplay doesn't get boring. Baldur and the Valkyries are the only worthwhile experiences. 6. He didn't break the laws of physics, he splintered the world tree, a magical thing which we don't know how it works in detail. This feat doesn't even make sense in the game's context. He hit the snake (stationary object) so hard it sent him back in time? They don't lose the instant you beat their gimmick, you still have to actually 1v1 them even after that, they just cease having hax after that. Heimdall and Baldur are fantastic examples of this, versus, say, Hermes getting brutalized the instant he's off his feet, or Poseidon being incapable of fighting back the moment he loses his water horse body, or Zeus being unable to do anything once Kratos beat up the Astral Fear energy protection of his soul, you get the idea. Norse gods are consistent warriors, much closer to being like Kratos than trying to act like they are above him, and they're more right about that than the Greek gods were in their assessment.
If I was honest, Mythos Cratos would dog walk GoW Kratos due to the fact Cratos would take him out with a single punch because he is the embodiment of strength.
@@largepinkthing8667 yeah you didn't know the comics the manuals the books I think more he is a lot more powerful then shown in the games in fact he would easily one shot every enemy except the gods
The devs have stated that not only is old Kratos the strongest he's ever been in the franchise, but also that the Norse pantheon is more powerful than the Greek pantheon in the GoW universe. It kind of makes sense since the Norse gods are more reliant on brute strength and they were often revered in the context of battle, while the Greek gods are more elegant and more focused on other skills and abilities besides purely battle strength than the Norse gods due to the high value of such skills in Greek society.
@@hoesficfiric7473 it's referenced in the novelization of God of War. It's stated that at the time of fighting Baldur, Baldur was the strongest being Kratos had ever faced up until that point. This is also said about Odin's spells. While it only references specific spells with regards to "most powerful of its kind that Kratos has ever felt" I think we can conclude the stronger Norse gods at least physically outclass the Greek gods (especially Thor) while Odin's magic outclasses even the Greek enchanters and spellcasters. And I honestly think that kind of makes sense. Zeus and the rest of the Olympians didn't do that much to gain more power since they're already gods. Odin, already a god, sacrificed everything to gain more knowledge and magical power. It stands to reason that the combination of godhood and an eternity of gaining more power leads to an extremely powerful god.
Let's just forget that Thor canonical killed Kratos, and older Kratos required leviathan axe, blades of chaos, AND draupnir to beat thor, even then he only managed to get him to calm down. Unless young Kratos got the Venom from Jorm (which i doubt he'd have the patience for) he wouldn't even have a way to wear Thor down quickly since thor heals rapidly. If Kratos learned about Thor's daughter and wife, he'd be too distracted by past sins and be sloppy. Plus, Thor could probably overpower Kratos since his myth strength feats are RIDICULOUS. Just holding Mjolnir and swinging it as easily as he does matches any strength feat Kratos has, since Kratos STRUGGLES HARD to even hold mjolnir in place. (Before anyone @'s me, I've played both gow 2018 and GoWR to completion and have seen playthroughs of the other games)

Greek gods are stronger. Greek gods are immortal while Norse gods are mortal and can die. Also, Kratos is based off of Cratos, who is the titan of strength. Titans are stronger than Gods. Then his weaponry and spartan rage is overkill
@@enomisv9830 That's a game mechanic. Like the Doomslayer being killed. They're both immortal. Let's also not forget that the game explicitly says that there's no such thing as fate. And if there was, Faye stated that fate would have Kratos live and be relished as a god. Not to mention if fate did exist, it's also entirely possible for Kratos to see what he NEEDED to see and have the sisters tell him what he NEEDED to hear for fate to take course and for Kratos to live. Therefore it's equally possible Kratos never would have died to the likes of Thor. But for Ragnarok to occur, Kratos had to think he would be killed by Thor so Atreus would go down the path of Loki to save his father and have all of the events unfold. Funny how you completely ignore this half since it's actually more plausible since Thor just doesn't have the capability to kill Kratos. To knock him out? Sure. But to kill? Not even on the same level.
The devs can say that all they want but Im not blind lol. Sure old kratos is still very strong but they still havent really showcased how kratos is more stronger than his younger self. They just want us to take their word for it without actually showing us anything extraordinary. And yes I already know someone is going to try mentioning the cutscene where he flips over a building or when he pushed the bridge using a lever. And to that I say younger kratos has already over powered multiple titans hands and fingers which I would argue are roughly the same scale as those buildings with the added factor of the Titans immeasurable strength. Its debatable is all Im saying. I just dislike it when people say "X thing is canon or non canon so that means Y is the only interpretation."
@D_an_ Old Krato to me has less overall fire power and strength than his prime younger self but his vast experience and newly developed self control makes him a better even more dangerous fighter.

@@mrblackandwhite5104 Yet the Game devs on twitter also confirmed things such as Zeus>Baldur, that Odin vs Zeus should be the real question. Implying Zeus and Odin aren’t far off. In game statements as well also point to the Greek gods having greater magical power as a whole when compared to the Norse. Granted the Norse are apparently physically stronger than the Greeks for the most part.
Even if the Greek gods are stronger than the Norse gods in GOW my own though on that matter would have been that since the death of a Greek god impacts the mortal world so heavily they might have done a kind of taboo trade of to improve their magical power and never spoken of it. I haven’t played the early series but Aries death didn’t impact the mortal world right? He wasn’t a god that relied on magical powers as much as a god of war so this kind of trade wouldn’t be necessary if that’s the case? Or if it did impact the mortal world I just missed it. 😂

Young Kratos is the definition of “Its On Sight”
"Dicks Over Rice"
The developers have said that Kratos is at his strongest in his old age but is holding back a lot more. He's been more than a match for Thor for a long time now. I'm kindof enjoying the fact that in the new games no one knows what Kratos is capable of, so people are always shocked or confused when he is seemingly unworried about having to face off against the Norse gods. Not only is it nothing he's not already used to, but he knows that he will win since he's already killed so many powerful gods in the past.
He doesn’t know he’ll win he’s just ready to fight to protect himself and the ones he cares about
Finally someone who sees it properly🤝

Kratos was holding back for the entire fight. The only time he didn’t pull a punch is when Thor mentioned Atreus. Young kratos would not hold back
But he would be significantly weaker than older Kratos.

6 months late but tbf Thor was holding back during the entire fight too and just laughed off Kratos' punch
Couldn’t have said it better myself

Wouldn't that mean any time Kratos and Thor hit each other (energy added together), they should splinter the world tree?

@@theguywholurksonyoutube7033 If we splice the correct runes/armor together we can instamelt hordes of enemies including heavies so it's not far off 🤷 plus the way they compensated for his speed and strength in the old games was to add more enemies. I miss fighting hordes of enemies. Fighting 4 tanky regular enemies who can deal massive damage through my runic attacks doesn't make me feel too Godly. The harpies grab can even interrupt heavy runic attacks while you're stuck in animation and even kill you because you can't move out of the way. That's a terrible design for a God. Plus if the Old gow games can be hard while giving him more speed and attacks I don't see why nerf his gameplay now if he's supposed to be stronger.
Isn't Kratos the literal personification of strength in Greek mythology? He would be a contender for Thor
Being the personification of something doesn't mean you have all of it.

Old Kratos: "WE MUST BE *BETTER!"*
Young Kratos: "I'LL BE BETTER AFTER YOU'RE DEAD!"
Fun fact
If young kratos and old kratos met, the young kratos would be looking down at the older kratos. Young kratos is 7 ft 6 and old is 6 ft 6. Idk how that works, but yeah 😂
6'4" I think, they made him Judges Height which in my opinion is better.
They met in the DLC Valhalla but young Kratos was sitting on the throne
that explains why buldur said “i thought you’d be bigger”
@@handmfunniesno that doesn't. He was expecting a giant, like surtr or the other big ones. Bladur only showed up to kratos' house because they thought freya kratos' wife was there because she was a giant or jotunn.
Bro young Kratos would literally rip thor in half💀 i just imagine how Kratos brutally kills Thor using his mjolnir and then taking it as a new weapon
@mommatthew2756 ???
@mommatthew2756 Kratos was holding back for the whole fight, he didn't want to kill Thor
@mommatthew2756 my point ? Kratos was holding back because he didn't want to kill more gods because he knows what it can do to the world. If he would stop holding back this would be a quick fight. You can see what happened when he let his anger out for one second plus he can lift mjolnir
@mommatthew2756Devs statements means nothing. The games and feats shows otherwise. young Kratos is undoubtedly superior to old Kratos due to the vast abilities that he was given access to. need I list them? Blade of Olympus (a weapon capable of eradicating all of the Titans and ended the great war with a single swoop), Power of Hope (The strongest power that existed in the Greek world. It's why Kratos was able to defeat Zeus in the first place), Claws of Hades, which lets Kratos sucks in the soul of any victims of his choosing, Boots of Hermes, Nemean Cestus, you name it. not to mention that Kratos was able to block Atlas's attack.
@@x_joel308Dev statements mean nothing 💀. Serious copium. So the people who made the game don't know what they're talking about 😭😭. Bro really doesn't want to admit that Old Kratos is stronger.
Granted look at how well thor was doing in the beginning. He was man handling kratos and literally only took 1 step back when getting hit by a rage fueled kratos. If he didn't get weakened by the poison on the axe and from fighting the world serpent, I think kratos wouldn't have beat him in the end without Raging.
He beat Zeus lmao, Zeus is way stronger than Thor, ingeneral Greek Gods are far stronger than Norse Gods, so yeah that’s that
@@Ghost-Face420 How are you sure they’re stronger than Norse gods?
lol i like how santa monic hypes up the norse gods these guys are laughable. Thor would get slammed hard in greece
@@jraqz1739 norse gods to me pretty much seemed like superhumans with a little magic sprinkled in. Their deaths, while impactful, were no where near as powerful as the death of a greek god. The Greek gods magic was much more powerful. Even noted in universe by Freya, the norse realms don’t really have magic on the level of Greece. The gods of Greece just seemed more like actual forces of nature. In my opinion anyway
@@christianhenry4173 you really wanna go there, considering actual mythology Kratos would've gotten manhandled by Zeus? Santa Monica wrote the lore of *their* versions, and in their versions the Norse gods are not somehow weaker than the Greek Gods, merely more compact, focused, and well rounded.
Spartan rage is just a way for Old Kratos to tap into young Kratos's anger.
Young Kratos was in Spartan Rage mode 24/7.
Remember : greek gods get stronger the older they get. And thor killed old kratos before reviving him.
If I was honest, Mythos Cratos would dog walk GoW Kratos due to the fact Cratos would take him out with a single punch because he is the embodiment of strength.

@@vegetasbiggestopp659 nah gow Zeus in lore is op
The devs have stated that not only is old Kratos the strongest he's ever been in the franchise, but also that the Norse pantheon is more powerful than the Greek pantheon in the GoW universe. It kind of makes sense since the Norse gods are more reliant on brute strength and they were often revered in the context of battle, while the Greek gods are more elegant and more focused on other skills and abilities besides purely battle strength than the Norse gods due to the high value of such skills in Greek society.
bro really forgetting about the fact that freya was scared/shocked when Kratos told her about the sisters of fate 💀💀💀
Can you give me evidence where the devs said Norse gods are stronger than Greek brcaus I can't find it anywhere.
@@SoupEmperor k.
This shouldn’t even be a question. Young Kratos will mop the floor with Thor.
For the last fucking time, Kratos is completely original to the God Of War franchise. The Cratus in mythology just happened to have a similar name
Not happened too his name is clearly derived from
Let's just forget that Thor canonical killed Kratos, and older Kratos required leviathan axe, blades of chaos, AND draupnir to beat thor, even then he only managed to get him to calm down.

I don't think you put enough > to show how biased you are.
Greek gods are stronger. Greek gods are immortal while Norse gods are mortal and can die. Also, Kratos is based off of Cratos, who is the titan of strength. Titans are stronger than Gods. Then his weaponry and spartan rage is overkill
@@snakevenom4954 doesn't change the fact that Thor killed Kratos when he wasn't going all out.
"You aspire to be an Olympian, yet their reign is ending, Hercules"

“Are you… a calm and reasona-“
*THOOORRRRR!!!*
The developers confirmed that older kratos is the strongest version of kratos so I’m not sure if this is entirely accurate.
In the new game, Kratos is far stronger due to his old age. The devs had already stated this.

In game statements as well also point to the Greek gods having greater magical power as a whole when compared to the Norse. Granted the Norse are apparently physically stronger than the Greeks for the most part.
Wrong
Even if the Greek gods are stronger than the Norse gods in GOW my own though on that matter would have been that since the death of a Greek god impacts the mortal world so heavily they might have done a kind of taboo trade of to improve their magical power and never spoken of it. I haven’t played the early series but Aries death didn’t impact the mortal world right? He wasn’t a god that relied on magical powers as much as a god of war so this kind of trade wouldn’t be necessary if that’s the case? Or if it did impact the mortal world I just missed it. 😂
Just so yall know, young kratos is like 8 feet tall and old kratos is 6 ft 4
Every drone NPC says the same thing. Here's the correction, Kratos is Kratos.
The only time i actually saw kratos mess up because of his anger was when he let pandora go but tbh nobody was gonna let that disrespect slide. Even though kratos was rage filled he still had control.

What made young kratos a problem isn't how strong he was. It's the fact that bro comes back twice as strong and ten times more angry after you kill him ... bro just keeps coming back
Kratos even had access to Zeus’s thunderbolts, Posiedons rage, all those weapons, Medusa’s head, Helios’ head, and the bloodlust so unmatched its scary. And then some
