Because they're fake, Ares just fights at wars and then goes home. The worst thing people can use against him it's the relationship with Aphrodite which it's nothing compared to most of Olympus 1:53 Ares represented Civil Order and according to the Homeric hymn was an "ally of Themis(Justice)" 4:48 "calm and collected" 😂 she killed the Priestess Iodama for literally NO REASON 4:53 she joined a rebellion against Zeus with *zero* planning 6:10 because she lost a beauty contest
Ares and Aphrodite together is no real surprise when remembering the old adage, "All's fair in love and war." I'd say that Athena, being the goddess of wisdom, is the most logical and obvious adversary to Ares. She becomes the goddess of strategic wisdom in warfare only because Ares exists. You can also see a strong juxtapose of ideologies between Ancient Greece (Athens in particular of course) which revered Athena more, versus Ancient Rome which gave greater reverence to Mars (Rome's Ares equivalent).

Totally, that juxtaposition shows the different cultural mindsets of both civilizations. Very interesting.
