    I read this part of her book, got ph strips, started ending by moisturizing then spraying slightly acidic formulas and it made a WORLD of difference. My curls were softer and my hair looked healthier. I LOVE the information Audrey gives.

      +CleoPhoenix What do you mean? Would you restate that?

    • @CleoPhoenixRT
      @CleoPhoenixRT 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      cuttinup97 Well, warm water and products that have a higher ph tends to lift the cuticle layers in the hair. So after washing my hair in warm water, it's an opportune time to moisturize it. I add whatever I choose, usually a light mixture of leave in conditioner. Then seal it with a slightly acidic (low ph) mixture. Like aloe vera juice. Heavy creams can close the cuticles as well manually but my hair is extremely fine, so I have to go for light product options.

    I just love you...I'm hooked. Would love for you to come out with a product line. Then I know I'd be safe. I've noticed that so many products that are most moisturizing to my 4b hair is actually higher in ph. During the process my hair feels very moisturized, however afterwards, it feels very dry. Question: How often should one moisturize and seal with a 4-5ph conditioner?? Should we ever use anything to open the cuticles, then close them between shampoos??? Trying to fight this dryness!!

Thank you BOTH for such informative and fun videos - even though I've been natural for at least 15 years, I've learned so much more about my hair over the past two, because of kimmay and now you! So excited that you started making your own videos, and looking forward to more! =)

    Thanks for uploading your vids! Im soo glad i found a scientist and a woman who i can personally identify with on a hair quality level!!! Feels awesome!!! GO GIRL!!
    I love my natural texture hair..crazy as it is it has several textures.. I have a very severe concern..
    I also love my hair textures when relaxed ..
    The thing is ..homemade remedies dont do it for me.. I have been messing around with ways to gradually loosen my grade 4 hair coils with the potency of a relaxer without the damage..
    I have read that the potency required is reducing alkalinity (strong base) 11++ that breaks the disulfide bonds ie proteins that hold curls/coils together but the usual process of relaxer is permanent and very fast... OR sodium hydroxide or lye 😵😬😣
    Do you know a way to slow down the process? Like a come thru that provides exothermic benefits like (Sodium hydroxide) but at a daily or weekly basis? Or weaker strength So that i can control the texture i need? Then once i achieve that texture i can begin to restore my normal balance of 5 ph and even maintain my new porosity??
    It would be a dream to have a hair care line that would be a true home remedy with clinical strength results ..im thinking a 3 day come thru followed by rebalancing shampoo then a sealing lower ph conditioner and a natural protein strengthener like fenugreek or rice water...

    Hi! this was so helpful. I have low porosity hair, I completed the porosity test again after adding baking soda to the water and my sank just below the top as if it had normal porosity from the beginning. My question I was hoping you could help me with is whether or not I can use the baking soda in my conditioners to help my hair take better to it WITHOUT damaging effects? Thank you so much for this video! It helps to understand the "why" of how our hair reacts

    Hello! This was a very informative illustration! I have been growing my hair out naturally for a few years now, but have struggled immensely with breakage. I bought a water softener last year thinking that would help, but I do tend to mix products a lot. I'm going to test my products and water today, to ensure the optimal ph flow - based on your recommendation here. Hope this helps decode things! Thank you very much for posting. The animations were very helpful illustrating the process flow! By the way I recently purchased your book, and have started reading it, but I haven't got through a lot of it yet. It's been very informative as well!

    Great vid! I'm glad u clarified pre-poo can be higher & then step down. I'm grabbing my strips to test my products now. We just did the regimen builder portion of the book in our Science of Black Hair Book Club! I now have an arsenal of moisture & protein products to alternate. I over proteinated my hair so I'm scared to use protein. This week I pre-pood w/ Castor, EVOO, & Coconut & co-washed w/ V05 (protein product) & used moisturizing leave-in w/ aloe juice. Will moisture balance protein? Thx!

    I read that Any chemical with a pH of more than 10 will severely damage your hair making it very weak, susceptible to breakage, so as long as we are below that, we should be fine. I'm lo-po also by the way.

    Hi Audrey ! I recently bought your book and I love it ! I Haven't finished it yet but I have an important question and as soon as I'ill get an answer, I"ll feel reassured. Are single strand knots alarming on a 4c twa or unavoidable because of my hair texture ? I wet my hair every morning with hot water during my shower. Otherwise I can't style it. Then, I apply my giovanni direct leave in conditioner and let it dry in the open air so I don't think that my regimen is the problem, isn't it ?

    I feel like our hair texture is stuck in a rut of requiring damaging lye thios and guanidines to aquire what we are truly looking for....a way to attain manageability ... I need someone who can look into ground breaking new products and methods of straightening...
    I once found a guy on youtube who actually shows a way to make sodium hydroxide with blending baking soda and hydrogen peroxide!! It created a film of a base product but did not give the feel of exothermic heat.... The thing im excited about is that baking soda is a home remedy that we use that can alter hair ph..now whether it can break proteins and relax is another thing of its own..but it appears as though someone is on the right track but...needs a further nudge..are we really stuck with damaging lye? To rearrange hair texture?? There has to be some lower grade chemical responses (acid/base) (exothermic) maybe even a product that could be a lye replacement to add into our conditioners or something..why is it that we can use a gel that elongates bonds of hair but once washed out it recoils back?? Why is it that certain heat tools can cause loosened curls over time and others cannot? I NEED A HAIR GAME CHANGER for curl reconstruction and hair straightening!!! PLEASE PROVIDE FEEDBACK!

    Hello how is that going? Ive recently added baking soda to my conditioner, bringing it to about a 7.5-8 ph, which opens my cuticles and allows water to actually get in my strands. (I dont use shampoo.) Ive tried ph balanced stuff for two years also and my hair was ALWAYS dry and breaking in little pieces and began getting brittle. Now FINALLY I am making progress. I seal with an acidic leave in, (shea moisture restorative conditioner.)

    Do you have any suggestions for low porosity naturals like myself who find it difficult to retain moisture. I've been natural for almost two years and I've found that baking soda is the only thing that has allowed me to open up my cuticles and keep my hair moisturized for days on end; but as mentioned in your video it has a ph of 9. and outside of the 4-6 range you mentioned.

    Can &/or should you adjust the pH of more alkaline products? If yes, how can this be done? With lemon juice, perhaps? I have really hard water, to I rinse with cold distilled water that I squirt a little lemon juice in. Is this ok?

    what is not clear in many of these videos is very consistent. When I am adding or taking something away from my hair , am I'm moving up and down on the scale or does my hair take on the pH of the last item that I put in my hair? for example let's say I use baking soda and water on my hair to cleanse. Once I rinsed that out of my hair, is this the equation 7 plus 7 equals 14? Or is it that my hair stays at a 7 since they both measure a ph of 7? does the scale work like an integer scale?

    • @sa_ni8185
      @sa_ni8185 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it works but not as you said.. When you put baking soda wich is alkaline 9 you have to follow it with something very acidic like vinegar 2 in order to get it back to 7... Because acid is +, and alkaline is _ '
