I'm Pascal a Dutch independent game developer since 2004 known as Orangepixel. I created various games including Residual, the Gunslugs series, Heroes of Loot series, Space Grunts series, Stardash and the Meganoid series released on PC, mobile and various consoles.
Awesome video Pascal! Loved seeing how you work and think through your game dev.
Was fun to record it daily! Also kept me more focused towards solutions instead of procrastinating 😏
Really like this video. Does give a good vibe of new and fresh air and perspective. The addition of split screen is an awesome addition.
It is, can't stop playing with the splitscreen stuff, and want to add it to more games now 😁
nice video - see you!!!!
Congrats on the co-op integration! Wow man you got skills to be able to do that in a week, nice work! Local co-op works excellently for this game and I'm sure that has to translate into at least a bit of a sales boost, good stuff.
I think having both players have to go to the vent for the secret area is a good idea. Wont even need to ask 2nd player for a prompt, just need both standing near the vent
It's actually really fun to see what you've been up to in the week 😎. Well done on having a productive week!
I liked this style of video, It was cool to see how you split your days up and managed to make progress on your goals 👍
💪😎👍
Great video! I wish you would do more like this. I imagine it's a lot more work that the usual videos though.
Mostly requires a couple of good tasks to sink my teeth in during a week! Will certainly try it more often
Split screen looks great. Maybe a few pixels black bar to separate left and right?
Yup, added already! 😎👍
Great stuff! I must admit i would have changed the game rules to accommodate the design constraints, by introducing virtual shackles so they had to work together on the same screen and any transportation happens to both of them. But by pushing past those constraints you will able to get a lot more out of that challenge which you could use in other games.
That green space looks cool, no hippies?
Virtual shackles could still be a good solution here, I haven't done actual play testing yet to see if the smaller screen areas work out! And no, no hippies here, some dogs (and owners) every now and then, but that's about it!
Great Video! that's some cool editing for sure XD
Needed a good edit session after so many 'easy' videos 😁
Great video, thanks for the insight. The area you live looks beautiful. Glad you decided to go with split screen, seems like the right way forward with the secret rooms issue. You're an inspiration!
The city has some nice areas for sure! And I'm learning to appreciate that more and more
Great vid! Co-op brings heaps of fun, but many challenges. I don't think I'd do 4P co-op again 😞 Well done on the split screen!
4p isn't in my planning either! 2p is more than enough for now
Require 2 players to open the vent together for the secret.
That would be another option, and then force both players to go through if one does.. can still go with that solution!
Nice video. Interesting to see another way of doing it. As for the Co-op, I think it's a smart move. Probably very steam-able too. I wouldn't have gone for split screen, because it makes it less of defeating areas together and more about exploring as individuals. That's probably more personal taste although adding 2 more players would make split screen very tiny. In my mind using split screen also implies individual inventory instead of shared. Although 1 player in one area putting something in and the other player in another area getting it out would give unexpected possibilities.
On a technical note, I haven't tried it myself, but steam should have coop over the network build in. It's just a checkmark according to twitch streamer "Pirate Software". Anyway the game looks really good and somehow gives me a Coin-up vibe. Sort of a really fresh, really smart "Ikary warriors" or some other top down game. (I really need to fire up Mobygames and filter on "top down" and arcade for a better example, but can't reach game sites from my current place.)
Yes that Steam coop stuff is on my testing list as soon as I think it's all working. Will be interesting to see if it's smooth enough!
And now with split screen you can do PvP.
java class? What framework you are using? By the way nice job.
Probably LibGDX.
Part libgdx, but only to setup the system (audio, graphics and input ) the rest is all custom code
Display your numbers we would love to know a realistic sale numbers
End of the year video will have more on that, as I do every year on the channel
